"Kasimira Krall knows exactly what she desires in life. On her forty-fifth birthday, she decides to secure her future and that of her beloved niece. But Kasimira never does anything by halves..."
Just watched the latest John Oliver show where he spoke on public shaming, interviewing the incredibly articulate
@MonicaLewinsky
When the scandal broke out, I remember my dad's anger at how this young girl was being hounded and victim-blamed.
Let's do better now.
A special tip from me to all who find this a confusing concept:
Unless your opinion was solicited, no author wants you to come up to them at an event and tell them everything you hated about their book.
I thought this happening was an urban legend. I was disabused of that notion
Forgive the slouchy appearance and the joyful incoherence, but the copies of my book are HERE!
THE WIND CHILD has arrived!
Thank you

Slavic Book News!
The Bone Roots is out October 2023!
It was born out of my fascination with the visceral nature of motherhood. It is a dark, literary-leaning story about two mothers and how far they are willing to go to protect their children.
Happy Book Birthday to meeee!

I need to finish editing my last novel, but OMG, I have a shiny new idea for a MG book and it dazzled me into writing a few paragraphs on my phone last night!
Do you ever start writing a new manuscript *while* editing the last one?

But a nomination *would* be nice…
Having a brilliant birthday so far!
Except when my door randomly opened at 2k feet in the air, that was a strange one!
Anyway, I always get me the best presents! 😎
It makes me angry to hear May talk of ending free movement, as if it were something to celebrate. Don’t people realise their free movement rights will end as well? Yay, let’s have fewer rights! That’ll show’em!
Sick to death of hearing this 6 tests gibberish. The country is against Brexit - all the polls says so - yet Labour dilly dally around with 6 pointless tests, pretending that, somehow, a Brexit that is good for country is achievable, when it’s obvious that Brexit is disaster.
I found a picture of a blanket I embroidered for my best friend’s baby using Charles Vess’s painting as reference.
It was lost in the mail 💀
I haven’t embroidered anything since. It broke my embroidering spirit.
@ivyngeow
I once ordered a book on mythology and on the first page the author compared black people to rats.
One star.
Just saying, sometimes there are reasons.
Had a wonderful time at

today! Thank you so much

I had such a lovely weekend at the FantasyCon. Thanks to
@shona_kinsella
and the con people for pulling off the magic trick of organising it in such a short time!
Today’s going well- slept well, got over 1200 words into my WiP, my three prints from
@janenewland
have arrived (look at these beauties)
My kids are plotting something so it won’t last, but enjoy the brief moments of bliss ❤️
came home to a lost cat leaflet in the post, I checked my shed and there it was hiding!
I called and the owners were crying they were so happy to get him back, it was just the most wonderful thing to witness
What a rush!
It has come to my attention that a great deal of people lie on their CVs and it blew my mind honestly.
Where do you all get the nerve? Is there a nerve shop I could go to?
Since I’m “pathologically truthful” as some loved ones call me, I now can’t help but feel at a disadvantage
If you do something, do it *beautifully* (especially books)

Met a new bookseller at my local Waterstones, and she loved The Wind Child. I have to admit, it always feels surprising to be told someone has read my books (maybe it shouldn’t but that’s how it is), and it was just so nice to hear ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’ll be going to the WorldCon in August!
Who’s coming? Let me know if you wanna meet up (if you’re a friend and not one of the creepy stranger dudes in my DMs that is)

Short, to the point notes on every aspect of the business of writing - from the ideas through to the querying and publication process to author marketing and unions. Well worth a read.
Was staring at a piece of a dialogue for ages, trying to figure out how to improve it.

Right, a star-struck 22-year-old, seduced by the most powerful man of the planet.
A 22-year old who was later dragged through the mud for the best part of two decades.
Anybody who didn't do, say of fuck something stupid in their 20s, raise your hand.
That's what I thought.

My copy of The Last Horizons has arrived! I’m so proud to have contributed a short and the interior illustrations to this timely anthology of short stories inspired by the climate emergency!
In the Guardian, sci-fi book of the month is my dear friend Caroline Hardaker’s MOTHTOWN , illustrated by Chris Riddell.
Read, admire the Kafka-esque cover, and BUY it.

I got a random gift of the massive fern by some kind strangers.
How cool is that? People can be so nice, honestly made my day!
I have named it Josephine. Note the “danger of death sign behind”
OMG look at that!
Congratulations!!!

Reading a no 1 NYT bestseller (not current) and the eyes are consistently described as “translucent orbs”, the breasts are all “milky orbs” with “divine peaks”.
The penises are “blades of passion” permanently at “half mast” and no, it’s not an erotica.

Consistency in writing is paramount. a page every day is better than 30 pages once a month. Also read a lot. Always. Also try things you don’t expect to enjoy, you might surprise yourself, and expand your horizons.
