For all those who still believe herd immunity as a concept applies to SARS-CoV-2: It doesn't. We'll be infected again and again, and the data now tell us that the risk of serious long-term effects increases with each infection. Govts need to re-think & find a new & better plan 1/

Norway is seeing the world’s first omicron superspreader event after a party downtown Oslo last Friday. Of 120 healthy non-symptomatic fully vaccinated individuals with a negative test, two had recently returned from South Africa and turned out to be positive, omicron. 1/

New pre-print that found a very limited immune response after infection with omicron. The desired herd immunity effect may according to this be a far dream still: from this, seems you can be re-infected more or less directly after your last infection

So it's clear: SARS-CoV-2 infects T lymphocytes, preferably activated CD4+ cells in vitro, independently of the ACE2 receptor and induces pronounced programmed cell death potentially contributing to the lymphopenia seen in ~80% of hospitalized C19 patients

Important 🧵⬇️ Those who think the scientific community are fighting over COVID/long COVID: A huge part of it is not scientific discourse but intended, organized, repeated dis-/misinformation from a couple of handfuls of players supported by big money from far right capitalists.

I want to share my thoughts, as someone who has been so alarmed by the so-called "dissident" scientists like Gupta, Heneghan, Kuldorff, Bhattacharya, & Ioannidis who consider themselves brave Galileos unfairly treated by "establishment scientists." I will try not to swear. 1/n

@zweinebelkerzen @F_Lund_Johansen Covid actually has few similarities to flu aside from transmission via air. Covid is a systemic disease that damages blood vessels and organs around the body, including lungs and brain, and often leads to the creation of autoantibodies; immunological changes may be long lasting1/

Kids may not even get T cell responses after mild infection but may brush it off & get little if any protection vs severe disease. Preprint "rapid clearance of SARS-CoV-2 in children may compromise their cellular immunity and ability to resist reinfection"

Major Norw. hospital stops all elective surgery due to increase in C19 admissions/staff sick leave. A wanted situation: Norway has let the virus loose to «live normally". Too bad the virus won’t listen & science finds herd immunity by infection an illusion

Er ikke spillereglene like for alle? «Alle dyr er like, men noen dyr er likere enn andre.» - George Orwell, Animal Farm. Dette var stygt, @SFlottorp 🙁 @Folkehelseinst

Another side of the coin;"despite Omicron’s extensive mutations and reduced susceptibility to neutralizing antibodies,... Well-preserved T cell immunity to Omicron is likely to contribute to protection from severe COVID-19"

The Norway example: what you get when you, after having controlled the pandemic well through TTI, NPIs, and vaccines, at 50% fully vaxx, 70% 1 dose choose to open schools with Delta in circulation, with no measures to control spread. School started week 33.

Ukultur må ryddes opp i. @Folkehelseinst

@TheClutterer Yes, I wasn’t really serious about that, stick to high quality masks! But seems there will be logistical challenges as this will likely spread worldwide in a fairly short period of time. Sorry for using such a terrible phrase. Very disillusioned.

- In participants with #LongCovid symptoms, cellular SARS-CoV-2 RNA was found in all samples from colorectal tissues 158-676 days after infection Findings suggest that viral persistence in tissue can be associated w long-term immunological perturbations

SARS-CoV-2 is able to invade and damage several different human cell types, including cells in the male reproductive system. Here, small study finds the virus in sperm from 8 of 11 moderate to severe COVID-19 patients (72.7%) within 90 days of discharge

@F_Lund_Johansen Yes,the principle is well known. What’s of interest here is the magnitude of the responses in delta vs omicron & that it seems you build very little immunity from a non-severe omicron infection. Seems from this if you don’t get really sick you don’t gain much in terms of immunity
