For reasons not worth getting into, I just had to find a French translation for 'gobstopper'. Don't think I'll recover from finding out that it's 'couille de mammouth' for some time tbh.

So incredibly distasteful to see how she's being made to perform repentatance/an acceptably 'British' version of femininity in the hope of regaining a citizenship she never should've lost to begin with. All of which is framed here as light entertainment, à la Hello magazine.

Was initially given a month to complete minor thesis corrections but, given how little time a summer spent working in retail and applying for jobs left me, had to get an extension. It's now 2:30 am two weeks before my final deadline and the corrections are in! #PhDone

Always feel these posts are self indulgent, but writing stuff out helps: my granny passed away yesterday of Covid-19. The strength she showed to go through so many hardships and keep smiling, & loving her children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren will inspire me forever 💚

I wrote this one year ago today while sitting in a hotel room in Bristol, a town I'd never visited before, looking at the comfort Nando's I'd bought myself to ease my nerves while frantically preparing to interview for a job I didn't really expect to get. It's been ok so far tbh.

Refusal of @StirUni to spread strike deductions (only uni in Scotland to do so, & one of only a handful in the UK), when some members' household incomes have already fallen due to redundancies, is shameful - esp given extra workload expected of staff this week. @UCU_Stirling

If you're thinking anything along these lines, maybe consider that if the introduction of a minimum wage and Sure Start outweigh the Iraq war in your personal balance sheet, you're telling yourself something about who you do and don't consider valuable forms of human.

Genuinely amazing how every so often there's a tweet with about 5000 likes saying 'here's this rude/disrespectful question my student just asked'. 'Don't make fun of your students on Twitter' still applies even if they really are being obnoxious. This isn't complicated.
