22 years sober today.
I sometimes think of my life as before and after. This photo is before I started talking about the shame and stigma of my story. 15 years in recovery at that time. Most people did not know anything about my struggle with a brain disease.
I encourage everyone to watch this event celebrating the achievements and ongoing work of women leaders at the Federal and State levels. I will be sitting on the next panel discussing healthcare and the opioid epidemic at 1:10pm Central Time. Watch live:
20 years sober today.
Sharing my story makes the shame recede from the shores, keeps stigma at bay, and reminds me to be grateful for every difficult day I have conquered to be where I am now. The journey is never over, but I know I have a community of support behind me.
17 years sober today. The smile is all about gratitude. Grateful for each sober day, grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way, grateful for the opportunity to serve.

Grateful for every place I am able to enjoy, especially beautiful North Dakota. Grateful for all the wonderful and amazing people I meet on this journey and grateful for this 18-year sobriety birthday today. Recovery is possible. I am a face and voice of recovery.
Gratitude for 16 years in recovery. Treatment works and recovery is possible. Help me eliminate the shame and stigma of the disease of addiction by talking about it.
