Don't watch One Piece, read it
The manga has 990 chapters, and the anime has 942 episodes. That alone should be sending off huge red flags when it comes to the anime's pacing.
bloodborne is faster than souls, yes, but i swear to god people make it sound like fromsoftware made a new ninja gaiden when talking about fast and aggressive it is.
like, have y'all just never played an action game outside of the souls series or something? lmao
@SgtGrumble
@Polygon
i know the impressions were positive. but the constant persona comparisons are still annoying as fuck. and it still frames the lack of persona mechanics as a negative.
words like "clunky" or "janky" to describe a game are officially banned. you gotta articulate that shit now. is the character's turning too wide. is there too much momentum conserved after you stop your movement input. is there no follow-through on an animation. specifics or bust
@Burn_my_Bread
I've dealt with lots of folks on Bayonetta/DMC forums enough to know many of them DON'T play action games outside the Souls series. And those that try to play action games end up confused because they're under the impression that Dark Souls is so hard they can conquer any game.
lots of older games that went for realism still look good, and plenty of newer games that go for realism are probably not going to look anywhere near bad 20 years down the line.
@Jiikae
Image from the JP website showing off some demons. Cerberus, Cu Chulainn, Zouchouten, Parvati, and Arioch are looking great. Wondering who the others on the bottom are, aside from protag.
playing doom eternal and elden ring side by side only solidifies my belief in this
i get more out of doom's small roster being constantly rearranged and recontextualized than elden ring's giant roster whom i kill x enemy 4 times a playthrough and forget for the next 30 hours
really great post about how the trend of remaking everything just discourages people from going outside of their comfort zone, and broadening their tastes. honestly never thought of it from that angle

I think it's okay to make jokes as long as everyone recognizes that breaks are totally necessary for everyone. Unfortunately, this was not the case a lot of the time.
@catgirlkirijo
you either fucking love something and think it's absolutely perfect with no flaws in it whatsoever, or you think that thing is utter trash, and completely irredeemable in all aspects. because that's how opinions work, lads.
@armormodechang
hilariously, i've seen souls fans defend this with stuff like "you could keep pausing right before their attacks, catch your breath and plan!" because according to them, constantly pausing and unpausing is something people do to cheese action games
@SomethingHank
@SetnaroX
"the souls games aren't really all that difficult. you dodge the attack, and then you hit them with the stick. done. i just solved all the souls games for you."

i know. how is "so bad it's good" not being sincere about the reasons you enjoy it? the ridiculous dialogue is played so straight, that it's funny. nothing insincere about it. this guy needs to lighten the fuck up.

i'm pretty sure about 95% of people that say that Bohemian Rhapsody is their favourite song haven't listened to a single Queen album
@TheSphereHunter
to be honest, it feels like most of the people involving themselves in this nonsense are more interested in playing a hideo kojima game as opposed to a new silent hill game.
@JorgeCr38659261
@OrdinaryGamers
"not that great"
The game design itself is fucking horrific. I rarely ever use this as a criticism, because I'm pretty sure most game designers have already thought of whatever fix, or idea I have for the mechanics.
This is not the case here.
@Jiikae
i'm still not sure what kamiya said wrong now that he was proven right.
like, he's been doing the whole block thing for years, and everyone was aware of, and accepted that. either that, or there were more people that hated his blocking shtick than i realized.

The problem is how many fillers then get involved, because of every episode running weekly for over 20 years. Either that, or you have to pace the chapter adaptations really slowly.
Nowadays, they wait for a huge batch of chapters, and then coming out with a new season.
NEW VIDEO!
Even though they built the foundation of the English-speaking manga industry, a lot of people don't remember Tokyopop positively, and that's largely because of how poorly they treated their manga artists/creators. Let me tell you all about it:
@Jiikae
talked about this on discord, and yeah, unfortunately, that is the case.
but your idea about how neither the audience or the artist should be beholden to eachother is a good one
god of war fans posting runic cancel combos in the training room to prove their combat is good is corny, but what's even cornier is the kh2 fans showing a video of them spamming reaction commands in response, or dmc fans complaining about how the enemy isn't fighting back
@armormodechang
i frequently think about the logic souls fans use that a group encounter in x game "isn't actually hard, because none of the enemies are hard to beat individually, they just throw a lot of them at you at once"
@WokeBlader
souls fans when an enemy jumps up into the air and the camera goes up their ass to track it instead of just pulling back to show both of them from a distance

@MegaTenStruggle
you realize that there's more to fanservice than horny things, right?
rise of skywalker was criticized being nothing but derivative fanservice.
