@Rhanty
I'm ADHD and autistic. I often bring up something that's happened to me. It's my way of relating and showing that I understand. It's not at all making it about me.
This is a common way of communicating for us.
As
#ADHD
is trending, I'd like everyone to know:
🧠 You don't need to be visibly hyperactive to have ADHD (

I just came across someone saying their child "overcame" autism. Someone said their autistic child has "hope for recovery".
Just a reminder once again that autism is not an illness or a disease, it's a neurological difference. You don't stop being autistic.
If someone tells you they've been diagnosed ADHD/autistic, plz don't say you're sorry. They're both about different neurology, not illnesses.
Most will be relieved to find out why their lives have been a struggle. It's common for us to congratulate each other for getting a dg.
ADHDers, do you consider ADHD to be a neurotype, just like many autistics consider autism to be a neurotype rather than e.g. a "condition" or a "disorder"?
There's been talk about smaller neurodivergent Twitter accounts shouting into the void, being hidden by the algorithm, even though they have a lot to say too.
Let's make a thread and boost under 500 follower accounts! Give a shout out to someone or say hello yourself! 😊
🧠 You can have
#ADHD
and do well at school, have a degree, a job, a relationship & a family
🧠 You don't outgrow ADHD
🧠 There's no cure for ADHD
🧠 Undiagnosed/untreated ADHD can have serious consequences
🧠 ADHD meds decrease the risk of drug abuse
🧠 ADHD is highly genetic
When someone tells you they are an ADHDer or autistic, you don't question it.
You don't say "No you're not", "You can't be", "But you don't look..", "But everyone's a little.."
They tell you, you listen.
You can not tell how many challenges an ADHD/autistic person has, and how much help they need, just by looking at the person. You have no idea.

#ADHD
is underdiagnosed
🧠 Not all doctors recognise ADHD
🧠 ADHD is often misdiagnosed as e.g. depression, anxiety, bipolar
🧠 Lots of ADHDers have comorbid conditions, e.g. autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, tourettes
🧠 Many undiagnosed ADHDers self-medicate with alcohol/drugs
Years ago I was put on antidepressants as I described my life to the doctor. They were no help.
At 38 I found out it was ADHD all along; I was never depressed. A very common misdiagnoses.
(Undiagnosed ADHD can lead to depression, though.)

I don't want videos, reels, shopping, loads of promoted posts etc.
I only want to post photos and see photos that people I follow post, in a chronological order.
Why to try and be like other apps?? I don't get it. You're driving people away.

ADHD is likely not what you think it is. I'm saying this because most people think
#ADHD
is just hyperactive, naughty little boys, and it couldn't be more wrong. It affects life in so many ways. If you know people with it, please find out what it's about.

Guess who got a job in a company that helps neurodivergents!!! ✌🏼
To get here I started 2 year studies at 38 to become a mental health practical nurse, survived when my heart stopped pumping, graduated and started a neuropsychiatric coach training I'm on.
A dream come true 😭🥰

So many people all around the world wondering, not knowing why their everyday lives seem more challenging to them than other people around them. (Thread)
"The clinical research psychologist who created the concept of HSP and first wrote about it, Elaine Aron, based the HSP criteria on family members who have since been diagnosed with autism"

"How do other parents manage it? Take care of their children, their home, their job, their relationship and free time. Cooking, cleaning and chauffeuring their children to hobbies. They seem to manage all that effortlessly. Why is everyday life so much easier for others?"
#ADHD
Loads of ADHDers need ADHD meds (yes, often stimulants) to be able to function better in their everyday lives.
Newsflash: ADHDers having ADHD meds reduces the risk of addiction.
The fast rise of prescriptions for Adderall and other stimulants, along with rampant online treatment and advertising, suggest the start of another drug crisis like the opioid epidemic, a senior Drug Enforcement Administration official said Thursday.
Today was my first day on ADHD medication. I've cried three times at how easy life was today. The calm, the silence, the focus. The absolute weightlessness of it all.
If you're wondering whether you're ADHD or/and autistic, but can't really tell when reading the diagnostic criteria: listen to our stories instead.
Hearing how they show in our daily lives will teach you so much more. The stories will all be different as well.

I was diagnosed with
#ADHDinattentive
at 38 myself. Until then I had thought
#ADHD
means "wild" little boys. How wrong I was.
Here's my newspaper interview, which gives you an idea of how ADHD can show in your life when you're an adult (& a parent)
Reasons why I thought I can't be autistic:
-I love coffee breaks and chatting at work
-I don't have meltdowns or shutdowns
-I have an impulsive side
-I felt I managed social situations ok
-I felt I didn't have routines
I'm also ADHD, it affects.

"...ADHD traits can include an inability to keep time, feeling hypersensitive to rejection, emotional dysregulation, trouble maintaining friendships, binge eating, overspending and experiencing imposter syndrome. Almost universally, women report cripplingly low self-esteem."
@commaficionado
As a Finn (sorry to poke my nose in from afar) this all (and the very strict rules regarding school uniforms, e.g. having to ask the principal to take your blazer off on a hot day) sounds unbelievable. Like straight from a very old movie. It's 2021.
#ThingsStupidPeopleSay
-ADHD isn't real
-There was no ADHD when I was young
-Everyone is a bit ADHD
-ADHD is caused by too much sugar/additives/TV/video games
-ADHD is caused by bad parenting
-ADHD was invented by Big Pharma to sell meds
Enough!

How dare non-autistic people who have a "niece with Asperger's", whose "wife is a special ed teacher", who "work with people with disabilities" etc talk back at autistics, telling autistics what autism is and what it's like to live as an autistic person.
Listen and learn, dammit
When you're both ADHD and autistic, you can have two totally different sides in you; e.g. wanting change, but needing routine.
This can make you wonder if you really can be an ADHDer/autistic as you feel you don't fully fit the diagnostic criteria. You can.
#AuDHD
#ADHDAutism
Saw the discussion about AuDHD. I'm both ADHDer and autistic. Just like ADHD, I use AuDHD. I was diagnosed ADHDer first and even though I don't like the term ADHD, that is what it is called atm. So I just add the 'u' to say I'm also autistic, not giving any thought to the 'D' tbh

All those doctors, therapists, teachers etc. And no one noticed.

Messaging someone, them seeing the message, but not replying soon. "I must've said something wrong!" "What have I done?!" "They must be upset with me!"
Even though as an ADHDer I can take a long time replying, or even forget to reply..

Let's talk ADHD meds to lessen the stigma. What ADHD meds are you on? 💊💊
I take bupropion (name Voxra here in Finland.) It used to help me get stuff done at home, not sure if it helps anymore. Stimulants are banned from me because of my arrhythmia history.

Supporting the idea of autistics "overcoming autism" is your good intentions?
If you supported the autistic community you'd listen to us. But you're not, at all. And you yourself are saying we are unheard!
What's also VERY upsetting is, that I've always taken good care of my teeth. Brushed twice a day, used tiny brushes to clean in between them, always had them fixed if there was any problems.
But at 45 I just learned I have bruxism. 😭 I clench my jaw, likely in my sleep.
@Theholisticpsyc
No. Me being AuDHD (ADHD and autistic) isn't a superpower. Yes, I'm very, very good at some things, but I'm terrible at some other things. My daily life is challenging.
We don't need fixing, that's true. We need acceptance and support.
Sincere question: are you neurodivergent?
Those were my thoughts before I knew I had

If I have guests coming over (very rare), I use every second to have things ready, just like you. Often I'm still cleaning the toilet when the doorbell rings! (At the agreed time.) Do not arrive early, I'm nowhere near ready.

No. No. No. Please don't belittle the struggles that ADHDers have. Life can be bloody hard for us. If you do feel the same way, then it's always a _possibility_ you're one of us.
#ADHD
I understand if you think so and are surprised to hear this. I thought this until I was 38, when I was diagnosed myself.
It was a shock as it had never crossed my (busy) mind that I could be an ADHDer.
Had a chat with an old class mate who was wondering how come one of our old class mates now works in a grocery shop, as they were so smart in school.
Due to being autistic I enjoy some simple, repetitive tasks. (Folding laundry 😍😁) Doesn't say anything about my intelligence.
Me, sometimes: goes from morning until evening not eating much at all because forgets.
#ADHD
Me, having to be without food for 4h before blood tests: better have a big breakfast so I can manage that.
🧠 There's a lot of stigma attached to
#ADHDmeds
. Many of us need them to function better. Taking them in prescribed low doses actually decreases the risk of drug abuse in ADHDers. There are many meds available, they're not "one fits all". Read more:
