Twenty years ago I heard my mother, Winnie Ewing, say these words. “The Scottish Parliament, adjourned on the 25th day of March in the year 1707, is hereby reconvened.” It was a proud and poignant moment. Winnie is nearly 90 now, and wishes everyone well on this special day.

NEW: Government has secured listing for ware (eating) potatoes... but not for seed potatoes - significant industry in Scotland, 80% of exports, high value. Now not listed, banned for export into EU because of UK lack of “dynamic alignment” - in theory should apply GB-NI too...

Our farm produce is renowned for quality - Scotch Beef Lamb and High quality pork; fine cheeses soft fruit and potatoes - much of it protected by PGIs when in the EU which conferred premium prices in many marketplaces - a protection forfeited as an early Brexit bill. #OFC21

Good to hear that Scotch Lamb PGI will now appear as a fixture on school menus in Dundee, Angus and Perth & Kinross following a successful pilot backed by @NFUStweets . Increase of Scotch Lamb sourcing by the public sector is certainly welcome news.

Disappointing to have a confirmed case of BSE in Aberdeenshire. Scotland’s Chief Veterinary Officer is leading co-ordination of activity with her animal health & welfare team & other agencies & is liaising closely with other CVOs across the UK-Defra are also being kept appraised

HMRC export stats show that in the first 3 quarters of 2019 (Jan-Sep), food and drink exports from Scotland were valued at £4.9 billion, up £525 million (12%) since the same period last year.

I am pressing the SG to bring forward revised plans on the timescale for dualling the A9 & A96 from Inverness to Auldearn including the Nairn bypass. In the first two full weeks back after the summer I’ve raised in the chamber on two occasions & I will keep going till we succeed

I have referred these cases to the Auditor General & have also asked top officials, including the Perm Secretary, to suspend this absurd and wasteful scheme and instead use the £100 million for vital health projects needed to treat patients & provide the necessary space safely.

The UK gov’s trade & co-operation agreement with the EU has erected significant barriers to trade for Scottish producers and businesses. There is real economic harm being caused with many now extremely worried about the short & long term effects on their businesses & sectors

necessary statutory orders, such as those pertaining to compulsory purchases & ancillary roads, would be concluded within weeks. My constituents in Nairn & indeed the entire North of Scotland, have been patiently waiting for progress on this critical infrastructure initiative.
