I have finally understood “latent heat” (I think), and why it matters to the timing of collapse. When ice melts, IT DOES NOT HEAT UP, it just melts. That is, ice at 0°C melts into water that is also 0°C. The energy holding the ice together is the “latent heat.” 1/

The people who tell us “we should be protesting” display a naive faith that there’s a direct line from the street to the halls of power. In fact, those who govern ignore the popular will in favor of money, and if we get out of hand they sic their lavishly-funded police on us.
