Being an advocate is not a normal job. It is a privilege and comes with obligations. The quote below should be the guiding principle for any professional advocate.

That I would so completely agree with an article by Jacob Rees-Mogg in the Spectator that I’d retweet it has come as a bit of a surprise to me. Off now to have a bit of a lie-down to recover.

@ED_LeveyKC @SBarrettBar Increasingly, I marvel at the fact that as a practising barrister there are people that are paying for him to opine on the law.

There has been criticism from some ill informed quarters today that the police are “managing” information regarding events in Southport. For the avoidance of doubt, there is nothing nefarious about police managing information about an ongoing criminal investigation. For good

I have seen several posts discussing the GMP/Manchester Airport incident. I understand the temptation to comment now but I am not a fan of rushing to judgement until all the facts are in. Every lawyer has a story about a seemingly open and shut case that turned out not to be.

Enormous thanks to @LucieWibberley for all of her hard work on behalf of the @TheCriminalBar . Few will know just how much she did behind the scenes. Working with her was an honour and a privilege.

This is an utter disgrace. Something for @CommonsJustice to look into @neill_bob ? I will be emailing @thebarcouncil and ask that it too raises this with @HMCTSgovuk . Reading this, was very uncomfortable - it almost felt like reading an account of a sexual assault. I hope

Today I was refused entrance to Stratford Mags unless I agreed to a ‘pat down’ search. I explained I was happy for my bag, pockets, coat etc to be searched, but I did not understand why a pat down is necessary - I did not want to be patted down because of my last experience (1/?)

I marvel at how often those who proclaim their patriotism, actually hate the capital city of our awesome country. I have lived in London my entire life. This city is amazeballs - yes, even North London. We have a vibrant arts scene - theatre, cinema, comedy clubs, galleries,

In the last few months I have struck by the difference in conditions for advocates in the civil and criminal justice systems. In the civil courts I have routinely had judges refuse (despite my offering) to make orders that would force me to work overnight or at the weekend. The

@danielmgmoylan @ManuPinteaux @KemloZ @Kilsally @vonderleyen @DavidGHFrost @DerrickBerthel1 @BarristersHorse @benhabib6 @HCH_Hill A contract is an agreement by parties to do/not do certain things. A treaty is an agreement by nations to do/not do certain things. I struggle to see any meaningful difference. When treaties are viewed as just a “scrap of paper” bad things often follow.

@francesbarber13 I utterly adore Paris and love the French, but with the quality and range of food available in London I really would struggle to justify the time and cost involved in travelling to Paris for lunch at the weekend. A trip to Palermo to have lunch on the other hand…

My life has been enriched by the friendship, love & kindness of many British Jews. The British Jewish community has immeasurably enrich our country too. You guys are as British as the fish & chips you invented, and we would all be poorer for your absence.

Idk. If you’re not Jewish and you don’t hate us and in 20-30 years you’d like to live in a UK that still has a thriving Jewish community as your co-citizens then can you be… loud.

@JamesTurner37 @WstonesHelp @bindelj @Waterstones @Docstockk I note that the core allegation wasn’t actually denied - i.e. that a book was not put on display because of “values”. It may be the allegation is untrue but the non-denial strikes me as curious. I also find the snide remark at the end of the tweet informative.

@BarristerSecret 100%. This case does illustrates the problem with an over reliance on cab rank in defending representation for all. Starmer advised Hizb ut-Tahrir in relation to an application before the ECrtHR challenging the acts of Germany. I am not convinced cab rank applied. I suspect that

An independent judge passed the sentence in R v Hallam (HHJ Hehir) and not Starmer. The judge was sentencing for breach of a law introduced by the previous Tory govt. Why do supposedly intelligent people not fact check before posting?
