Yemen is not starving. It is being starved.
Today, we joined more than 70 groups and over a dozen celebrities in calling on

What
@rabbijilljacobs
says here is fact: Both the US and Israel have committed war crimes. Rep. Omarโs focus on the
@IntlCrimCourt

This is a cynical attack. It's true that both US & Israel have committed war crimes. It's neither antisemitic nor anti-American to say so (as patriots of both countries do). Her words do not equate the US/Israel w/Hamas/Taliban, which carry out terror attacks against civilians.
Don't buy into the taking points.
#FamilySeparation
isn't upholding the law - it's a choice that the administration is making. A cruel, unnecessary choice. Congress has to speak out now.

When I gave the first Senate speech on Yemen in 2016, no one had heard of the civil war there. Today, I went back to the Senate floor to say this:
"With the inauguration of President Biden, our participation in the the national security cataclysm of Yemen is coming to an end."
FCNL's Quaker Welcome Center will be open to protesters this weekend in Washington, D.C.! Water, snacks, air conditioned rest areas, phone charging, and bathrooms will be available. All are welcome! (245 2nd St. NE)
Great testimony yesterday at an appropriations cmte hearing from
@ChrisVanHollen
, who said โtaxpayer dollars should not be used to expand [Israeli] settlements or illegal outposts.โ Thank you for your leadership to make sure US funds aren't used to commit human rights violations.
Thank you

In response, former

Oh, and no matter who wins: The electoral college should be abolished.
It subverts the will of the people and, at its very roots, promotes inequality. Time to replace it with the popular vote.
๐จBREAKING๐จ: Lawmakers just introduced a Yemen War Powers Resolution to end US participation in the Saudi-led coalitionโs war and blockade in Yemen!
This comes after months of lobbying by our Advocacy Team network and peace activists nationwide.

! Long overdue for the US to abandon these immoral weapons.
FCNL supports the ongoing impeachment inquiry of President Trump led by the House of Representatives. As people of faith, we firmly believe that this inquiry is imperative to preserve our democracy.
The tragedy in Afghanistan should serve as a wake-up call to all lawmakers and elected officials: War is never the answer.
For 20 years, the United States put militarism at the core of our approach in Afghanistan. It brought no peace. It is critical we learn from this failure.
Historic news!
@JoeBiden
will end US participation in the Saudi-led coalitionโs offensive operations in
#Yemen
. This decision is the result of years of tireless advocacy from Yemeni-Americans and grassroots activists all over the country. Congrats to lovers of peace everywhere.
This past week has been definitive proof: Nuclear deterrence does not keep us safer.
Removing nuclear weapons from the planet is essential for the future of humanity.
Thank you
@repmarkpocan
! Using U.S. funds to support the military detention of children, the demolition of Palestinian homes, and further annexation is immoral and unacceptable.
Agreed.
We cannot just condemn rockets fired by Hamas and ignore Israel's state-sanctioned police violence against Palestiniansโincluding unlawful evictions, violent attacks on protestors & the murder of Palestinian children.
U.S. aid should not be funding this violence.
Disavowing and ending the U.S. lethal strikes program is both a human rights and racial justice imperative.
Today, we join 110+ organizations in urging
@POTUS
to end this program and center our collective security.
We are calling for the immediate removal of President Trump. He is unable to carry out his responsibilities, and allowing him to continue as president would pose a clear and present danger to the country.
In the first 10 years after the assault weapons ban expired in 2004, there was a 183% increase in gun massacres. As Quakers, we believe that every life is sacred & Congress has abdicated its responsibility to keep us safe. Prayer alone is not enough, we must act.
#PrayerAndPolicy
We shouldn't scapegoat people with mental illnesses. Nor should we expect that addressing mental illness will prevent most gun deaths. Guns are the problem - we need a society with fewer guns.
Dreams upended. Homes destroyed. Families shattered.
These are the true costs of war, and they must never be lost in the discussions of what is happening in Ukraine.
Every bullet fired and every missile launched is an assault on humanity.

BREAKING: The House has passed H.R. 256 to repeal the 2002 Iraq war authorization, by a bipartisan vote of 268 to 161! ๐๐๐
This is just one step to end the forever wars. But it's an absolutely vital one. Thank you to all the advocates who made this a reality!
We cannot simply return to our pre-pandemic society and economy. We need real structural change.
Fortunately, the American Rescue Plan takes significant steps in that direction. We applaud
@POTUS
for his leadership, and we're excited to hear his joint address shortly!
NEW: We joined 100+ organizations in calling on
@POTUS
to block the delivery of $735 million in weapons to Israel.
Moving ahead with these sales would undermine U.S. morals + national security interests, and support likely violations of international law.
Thank you to
@ChrisMurphyCT
and
@SenWarren
for calling on the administration to investigate reports of civilian casualties from US military operations in Yemen.
We need clarity + accountability on the harm caused by US involvement in the Saudi-led war.
Some good news from this past week (we know, much needed):
A federal court has struck down a harmful Trump administration rule that would have eliminated Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for 700,000(!) low-income people.
We're wondering: Why do lawmakers pass $750 billion+ Pentagon budgets with no trouble, but waver when they have an opportunity to address child poverty, climate change, and other critical human needs at a lower cost?
This reconciliation bill should be an easy vote.
The Pentagon wants to replace its arsenal of ICBMs at the cost of roughly $260 billion.
This isn't just a waste of taxpayer dollars--it would increase the risk of blundering into a nuclear war by accident or miscalculation. We don't need these weapons to keep us safe.
1/4 Today a diverse coalition of 60+ national orgs sent a letter to Congress urging support of
@RepAndreCarson

Around the U.S., unfair voting laws are designed to keep the levers of power out of the hands of young people, people of color, and low-income people. That must end. Congress has to stand up for fair and just elections.
THREAD: We are deeply concerned by the US missile strikes in Syriaโstrikes that Congress did not authorize.
The Pentagon says that the attack falls under the president's Article II authority. But that is of little comfort. Again, the US has chosen violence over de-escalation.
A no-fly zone would require the U.S. to shoot Russian warplanes out of the skyโputting the worldโs two greatest nuclear powers in direct conflict.
There's an understandable urge to do more for Ukraine right now. But we cannot allow this to spiral into a larger conflict.
Today marks five years of the Saudi-led war in Yemen. Tragically, the war has produced the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with 80% of the country in need of dire aid.

The president just had a street full of peaceful protesters tear gassed for a photo op. It was before curfew.

President Biden wrapped up his address with a hopeful vision for addressing two of the most serious issues we face: The climate crisis and gun violence.

Today is Eid, one of the most joyous days in the Muslim calendar.
While I'd rather be spending it with my family, I have an obligation to stand up for the families whose children were taken from them because of the violence in Palestine.

Today, we remember all those who lost their lives in armed conflicts.
A world free of war and the threat of war *is* possible. True peace is not a pipe dream, and violence is not inevitable.

We seek a world where nuclear weapons are NEVER an option, but until then, it needs to be made clear that the U.S. will never use nuclear weapons first.
The United States spends more than $2 billion every day on our military.
When lawmakers say that investing in human needs is too expensive, keep that in mind.
Thank you
@CoryBooker
for speaking out. The president's comments on Haiti and African countries were racist and unacceptable, and the administration needs to acknowledge that and change its course.
โThere is this sense of exhaustion about how long is it going to take for one of the biggest emitters in the world to do its fair share."
Lawmakers simply can't miss this chance to address the climate crisis.
By stopping the U.S. support that Saudi Arabia needs to carry out its bombings in Yemen, we can help end the worldโs worst humanitarian crisis.
I've passed an awful lot of amendments in Congress over the years, so let me tell you: this one is important.

Calling for peace is repugnant...
