The RJOP style facemask; once a staple at the quarterback position, extinct in 2020. Very common in the 80’s and 90’s, the ‘big man’ QB mask started to disappear in the 2000’s, with Zach Mettenberger unsuccessfully trying to revive it in 2015. Do you miss this style mask?

Corey Schlesinger, a successful fullback that you may not have heard of. The 2-time Pro Bowler spent his entire career with the Lions (and a preseason with the Dolphins), and always looked like an absolute monster. He wore an NJOP-XL facemask, a softcup chintrap and HUGE pads.

Random Player Spotlight: Cincinnati QB Tony Pike played for the Bearcats from 2005-2009. Pike played much of the 2009 season with a cast after breaking his non-throwing arm. Despite the injury he threw 29 Td’s, just 6 INT’s and led the team to a 12-0 record in the regular season

Landon Collins played the second half of the NFL season with a neck gaiter/mask covering his face. Collins wore a different mask every week, along with a number of illegal visors, chin sleeves and a taped mask.

Due to a long list of injuries to the QB position, Maryland called on LB Shawn Petty to play quarterback in the final 4 games of the 2012 season. The lefty, who was a QB in college, continued to wear number 31, used 2 playsheet wristbands and a smaller mask with a visor.

So Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is now a co-owner of the XFL. Mr. The Rock has some very close ties to Under Armour. It will be interesting to see if anything materializes between the XFL and UA! The XFL did not have an official uniform provider in 2019.

Tua Tagovailoa wears a Riddell SpeedFlex, but you may have noticed that he tends to wear it a bit crooked. His helmet sits off center, likely so he has better vision. It will be interesting to see if/how this continues at the NFL level, especially if/when he is fitted for a PF SF

The Schutt Vengeance Z10 does not get enough love. The aggressive air vents, the unique ear holes and external stabilizers make for a sweet helmet. It’s not as frequently seen as the AiR XP and F7, but it’s a solid look. What do you think of the Vengeance line of helmets?
