A skill in game animation that's not talked about as much is idea generation. Animating Warframe idles test your creativity - they can't move too much, they must be unique, have personality and all without props or interaction, and without facial expressions. Some #animtip >

Work/life balance is great, but imo if you want to be part of a competitive industry then at some point in your career (generally early on) you're probably going to have to sacrifice some life for some work to get where you want to be.

If you're an animator, you use minimum 500 locators a day. Spice up your greybox life by giving them different colours! Go into the attributes > locator shape > drawing overrides, tick "enable overrides" and chose from many beautiful colours to give your life meaning! #animtip

#animtip If your character is feeling stiff, create a new animation layer and add in some exaggerated movement to your controllers to support the action. You can always reduce the weighting to make it look more natural and it adds some complexity non-destructively.

I the most recent one for me was learning how to realistically make someone breathe. Counter-animating between the chest, shoulders, neck head etc. I don't think I took enough care with it before.

👑Animation Reference is KING 👑 here's some tips: - If acting, get yourself in the right emotion first. Watch film clips, listen to a song, change your breathing, think about something that gets you in the right headspace before filming. - Get props and set accurate!

One of the main issues I see with new animators is that they get the mechanics down but not the personality. Everyone tends towards a certain style, posing etc, but you have to be able inhabit different characters. Try animating the same action but in 20 different ways. #animtip

WIP Animation. Did a little more on this today. Don't like the awkward wobble with the monster at the end. Him charging from further back looks better. I've also lost the hero jumping up the monster + being visible in cam at the end so need to fix that. :)

There is no "one right animation workflow". Each additional workflow is a new tool in your toolbox, sometimes you need a hammer, sometimes you need a wrench. It's worth trying them all out and finding what works for you, then you always have the right tool for the job. #animtip

If you're working a lot with a few specific attributes, it can be helpful to pin them so that they stay visible even when you click away from the controller. This is also handy if you're working on the same motions across multiple controllers. #animtip

Whenever I get overwhelmed with an animation, it's usually because I'm trying to fix too much at once. Help your brain out, pin point one issue, focus in the timerange, isolate that one specific problem and fix it before moving to the next. #animtip
