Single Mother of 3 (She/Her) Unapologetically Black, Muslim, Somali, & American. Community Organizer. Bureactivist. Candidate for King County Council District 9
Friends, I hope you take the time to read why I'm running for King County Council, and why I believe restorative healing is not only important, but necessary as we recover from this pandemic.
Honored that our campaign has received
@UrbanistOrg
endorsement. Thank you!
"Gardheere is a highly qualified, long-term public servant who can flip the “D9” King County Council seat from red to blue."

It's election season and that means it's endorsements time. Our Elections Committee has picked a slate of candidates for the primary election and some that won't appear on the ballot until the general election. Vote by August 3rd! 🗳️
Endorsements:
I'm not just thankful for TRU's endorsement, but also for their leadership in the fight for free, reliable public transportation as well as renter protections with the
#StayHousedStayHealthy
coalition.
King County and District 9 deserve better!
It’s time for new, visionary leadership in King County District 9. TRU endorses
@ElectUbax
because she’s been fighting for low-income communities & communities of color for years & we know she’ll stand up for transit riders & renters!
#ElectUbax
54% of evictions in unincorporated King County are BIPOC renters. This is especially true in a diverse district like District 9. Renters deserve stronger protections and council members who will stand with them
First up is one of HJP's own, Amy Kangas, social worker - 54% of eviction filings in Unincorp. King County are against BIPOC folks. This is a racial justice issue.

"We are excited to announce that the Sage Leaders Political Leadership Council has endorsed Ubax Gardheere for King County Council District 9!" (Cont)
Recent news coverage has forced candidate Ubax Gardheere to relive a painful mental health crisis — this time through the lens of national right-wing media. She shared her story with us in this opinion piece.
Today, we're celebrating, and we're fighting, so we can have a real multiracial democracy that reflects and represents all communities in King County. This is at the core of our campaign. We hope you join us in that effort. Happy

We need to extend the Eviction Moratorium until our communities actually start healing from COVID-19. Part of Kent is in District 9 and that's why our platform includes ensuring renters have stables home, not just as we recover, but for the future as well.
We are extremely disappointed in the four
@CityofKent
CMs that declined to extend an eviction moratorium that would protect their residents, who are predominantly BIPOC, immigrants and refugees, who are already evicted at disproportionate rates.

Hello! My name is Ubax Gardheere, and I am a single mother to three wonder children, a community organizer, and Director of Seattle’s Equitable Development Division. I am running to be your King County Council Member for District 9!
The pandemic will end and soon, some of us will forget what this year was like; but Black, Indigenous, immigrants and other communities of color, will suffer lasting impacts. King County had a housing crisis long before March 2020 and will remain for long after COVID.
It is not by chance that Black folks make up less than 7% of the County's population but represent 25% of the unhoused. It is not a coincidence that Indigenous folks barely make up 1% of the population but 15% of the unhoused.
Follow, retweet, and keep up to date as we'll be sharing more about our community driven campaign, as well as opportunities to get involved! It'll take a community effort to keep moving forward, but we need to in order to enact the changes our community needs.
