When asked what book I'd take to a desert island, I said, The Stories of Alice Munro. There is so much there that you can read + reread + always find more. I can’t remember when she wasn’t in my life or through her writing, revealing things to me about my life. Her loss is huge.

Saddened by the death of the groundbreaking Quebec writer Marie-Claire Blais, age 82, in Key West. She pub'd her first novel La Belle Bête at 20 + her best-known novel, A Season in the Life of Emmanuel, at 26. It won the Medici and France-Quebec awards. Prolifically talented.
