I worked in a school before and after it raised expectations for behaviour. It became safer, calmer, happier & outcomes soared for disadvantaged children. Middle class policy makers will never have to send their *own* kids to the chaotic schools they create.

My fav of the genre was someone posting a pic of people walking towards Greenwich park. Raging about ‘irresponsible wankers’ and clarifying she took it from her front garden. You’ve got a town house in Greenwich pal, step down.

going on about need for early years intervention. If only there was some kind of established national programme to help poorer parents give their children a sure start in life? 🤔
I wonder how people can seemingly forget that a female MP was assassinated in our country 2 years ago. It should have been a turning point for our country's politics and political discourse.
Gobsmacked that John McDonnell’s response to the harassment Luciana Berger is facing is for *her* to come out and promise she’s not a traitor against the Labour Party. Fuelling the flames.

After he said that, the bloke behind me said ‘I agree. Should always be the best person for the job, every time. None of this special treatment for women.’ It’s strange more women don’t come along to local meetings, eh.

Commissioning independent reports on all Brexit scenarios and then informing the UK public... Sadiq Khan is trolling Westminster leaders with his sheer competence.

Mum is EVC and had paused her chemo treatment due to fear of picking up covid in hospital. Yesterday with no prior warning she dropped us a message to say she’d just been vaccinated. I sobbed like a baby with relief. 💉😭🎉

Which just bakes inequality into the process. Last year I taught at a school with 25+ A-level kids in a class due to funding cuts.

How will this bizarre war against safe schools look when hospitals in this area are full in January? Infected students will give to relatives over Christmas for the sake of 3 days of Christmas jumpers and DVDs...
Every time I plan a hiking trip by myself I get a bit anxious for 2 days before. Then get going and after approx 20 mins I feel like someone’s taken my brain out my head and gently washed it in spring water before returning it carefully.

A grieving woman whose brother has died of a clot has gone on the news to stress the importance of having the vaccine. What an extraordinarily generous thing to do.

What’s interesting is how many aren’t dudes. Female ideologues policing women. Women historically good at enforcing purity tests and ostracising heretics.

My mum was an amazing gardener. Since she died 2 months ago, the allotment is the only place I feel even vaguely myself. I wish I could show her how it’s all coming on, thanks to her wisdom and guidance .

I've recently moved to a school with silent corridors for some lesson change overs, and the school environment is so much calmer, safer and happier for students, especially more vulnerable children. I wasn't expecting to be such a convert.
Waaaah told my lovely raucous form that I am leaving to spend more time with my sick mum. Cue very noisy response. Then they came back quietly at the end of the day to say they’d put my mum in their prayers and dua. 😭😭
It makes me so so angry that young people aren’t safe to walk home after school. This threat of knife attacks looming over them once they leave the school gate. It shouldn’t be normal, but I’m not shocked when I hear it anymore. Just really angry
Two weeks ago I snuck some plants out to a neglected corner of my block. Repurposed an abandoned drawer. Now have flowers, courgettes, tomatoes, lettuce and beans growing. It’s been weirdly joyful. Met lots of neighbours out there and surprised a few drug dealers.

on Boris Johnson's awful handling of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's case, Michael Fallon said 'on the big issues that really mattered' he was on top of the job. What an absolute fuck you to her husband and child.
They have no idea what we went through last year. There is a country-wide trauma from months of isolation, and guilt about lonely loved ones that these guys just didn’t experience.
NEW: Downing Street staff and Boris Johnson pictured drinking wine in the No 10 garden last May when the rest of the country was limited to meeting just one other person socially outdoors.

It is mad that schools aren’t remote teaching from Monday. Hot box all the kids in a classroom to watch DVDs for half a week then send them to visit granny....
Systems down at school. Enjoyed a day of no emails or spreadsheets, trad lessons, board work, no worksheets, settled silent work, dictation. Possibly pacing around with a metre rule took it too far tho.
@MayorofLondon
Exclusion is a symptom, not the cause. Most schools are working desperately to try to patch over the crisis that austerity has caused in the lives of our most disadvantaged and vulnerable students. Depressing that schools so easily become the scapegoat.

The students I’ve chatted to on calls about this are craving normality, lessons, structure from school. You can build pastoral support through tutor times, assemblies, PSHE.
Rosie Duffield did the right thing for resigning for going for socially distanced walk with her partner before that was allowed. Everything else in the article is tabloid salaciousness.

We have an array of poorly qualified young grads with no teaching experience ready to print some disjointed worksheets off the internet then try to coerce your tired students into completing them at the end of a full school day.
My sister, on a video call while on a busy ferry for a long weekend hiking in NZ, just turned her camera around so I could see the dolphins she was seeing. Really happy for her. Really.
Rory Stewart is so blithe about his racist prejudices. It’s so grim to think people in 2019 are that relaxed about letting the mask slip like that... let alone an MP... let alone a London mayoral candidate.
If this disease was spread easily through white collar work places (and white MC communities) the government would have done so much more. Too many people at the top don’t know any of the 100,000.
