Pulled a time-lapse from one of our cameras in North Wilkesboro, and I believe we caught the tornado yesterday! This is looking south toward Rose Glen Village and 421. You can see the tornado come out of the rain when the video pauses. @WXII @NWSBlacksburg #NCwx

Here's a timeline for today's partial solar eclipse in North Carolina: - Starts around 2:00 PM - Maximum eclipse is at 3:14 PM; about 85% of the sun will be covered - Ends around 4:30 PM Remember, you need eclipse glasses to look at it safely.

Debby is a worst-case scenario for flooding in coastal Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Slow-moving tropical systems cause big problems around here, and #Debby will be no exception. Plan accordingly.

8:00 PM Update: The center of #Debby is moving directly overhead right now. The worst is over, but we still have a little ways to go. Things will really start to improve overnight. The storm accelerates away from us on Friday, leaving behind a beautiful weekend. #NCwx

UPDATE: The track for #Debby has shifted further west, which will bring more rain and wind into the Triad area Wednesday night through Friday morning. This increases our flood threat. Based on this track, we're looking at 3-6"+ of rain and 30-40 mph wind gusts.

HOUR BY HOUR: Things will start to go downhill overnight as heavy rain from #Debby moves in after midnight. Be prepared for rounds of torrential rain on Thursday and 30-45 mph wind gusts. Flash flooding is likely, power outages possible too. Big improvements by midday Friday.

We're going to get a lot of rain from #Debby this week. 2-4" are possible through Saturday, with higher totals likely south and east of the Triad. Flooding will certainly be a concern once rainfall begins to add up, especially with how wet it's been recently.

No rest for the weary! There's another area to watch in the tropics. This tropical wave has a good chance of developing into Tropical Storm Ernesto next week. Models show it curving out to sea, which would be good news, but things can change. We'll keep an eye on it.

Never thought I'd say this... but I think the NAM 3k model has a good handle on our storms today. Greatest risk is along I-95 in NC/VA, but one or two isolated severe storms could still develop in the NC Piedmont this afternoon ahead of the cold front. Only time will tell.

Watching for a couple of strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow, midday through the afternoon. We're mainly concerned with heavy rain and strong winds, but there is also a low tornado risk. It'll be a windy day regardless of storms, with some 30-40 mph gusts.

WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Our risk for severe storms before 9 AM looks very low. Our main risk may actually come later this morning through midday as the cold front swings through. A few storms will fire up along the front, and those could be strong to severe between 10 AM & 2 PM.

We're still just watching and waiting on this tropical wave in the Atlantic. Nothing is likely to happen until Friday or Saturday when a depression may form near The Bahamas. From there, the NC coast will want to pay attention. Stay tuned for updates.

Here's the latest cone for Tropical Storm #Debby . It's slowing down and will basically come to a halt along the GA/SC coast Tuesday and Wednesday. From there, a second landfall is expected near Myrtle Beach on Thursday morning, before finally moving up through NC on Friday.

NOAA just released their prediction for the 2024 Atlantic #Hurricane Season. They're calling for a very busy season with 17-25 named storms, 8-13 hurricanes, and 4-7 major hurricanes (cat 3+). We'll be here to track the storms, should one come our way.

Look up at the moon tonight! It's called the "pink" moon because of pink flowers that bloom this time of year. The moon itself won't look pink, but it'll still be big and bright. High clouds move in overnight, but we should still have a good view!

A stalled front and plenty of moisture will keep us in an unsettled weather pattern for the next few days. Expect more clouds and a few scattered, slow-moving storms to develop each afternoon. Temperatures will be somewhat milder too, with highs in the 80s.
