A man jumped a railing & grabbed me today, as i was heading in to licensing. He was a stranger. The person I was with was yelling "No!" at him but was 3m away & couldn't block him. I screamed "Let me go!" & "Get your fking hands off me!" several times at full theatre volume. 1/

My wheelchair has a low back & foldaway handles TO PREVENT THIS. This is not rare. Do not touch a stranger. No amount of "but i wanted to help" makes it okay if you don't ask consent. I didn't need help. I didn't look like i needed help. I was just existing. You need to STOP. 4/4

A jolt went through me & my wheelchair from the force the stranger applied, & it caused my left hand to be dragged off my pushrim & into my wheel spokes, & injured. He had the audacity to get annoyed because we had yelled & told him off, & that he was shamed publicly. 2/

The woman he was with, who had now caught up to him, looked at me & silently mouthed an apology so that he wouldn't hear her. He never asked if i needed help. He grabbed me, a stranger, without warning & caused me injury. 3/

@AccessibleRail Mobility aids are absolutely an extension of the body. My backrest ends at my waist & my handles fold away. This man grabbed me. Irrespective of if I was sitting, standing, stationary or walking, this is classified as assault in Australia.

My soul is broken & my home is silent & empty without her. Everything's a state of Wrongness. 7 years together, saving each other. Intelligent, caring, loyal, wise, playful, cuddly, protective. A giant, both metaphorically & physically. Her battle with cancer ended on Thursday.

@AmerMommaBear My wheelchair is an aid, not a cage. I (& most other wheelchair users) don't see it as being "confined" or "bound" to one. They give us freedom & independence, & stop us from being confined to places. I'm sorry you had that experience in school. It's not okay that people do that.

In case you missed it: No stream tonight. Escaping & navigating out of the roiling storm of a toxic & abusive marriage is difficult AF, without adding in the further bullshittery that's happened with it this week. I'm exhausted. I hurt. My focus right now needs to be self-care.
