I refused to stand for the pledge of allegiance in homeroom in high-school. the teacher would make me leave the room. I would and sit on the floor. This happened every time every year until I was a senior and the teacher asked everyone to stand “except for Su’ad”

Feels so...surreal. My 14yo, now a HS freshman, was in 3rd grade when I started this journey. The sacrifice, the hard work, the hardships...to get to this day. And he says “I’m proud of you Mom, and those big words... now no more school!😆”... God is good. God is merciful.

Inna lilahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. I feel like he was the last of a vanguard generation of artists who had deep love for & knowledge of Black folks and Islam & that is what made their music so unbelievably compelling & beautiful & all the things. I wish I could have met him. 💔

This is hilarious and I’m all for making fun at ourselves. But I do think it’s still important to gently remind ourselves that debates over when #Ramadan begins/ends are a GOOD thing because it means Muslims are LIVING their tradition.

I’m deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz . My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak, when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah.
