Finished the day as I started it discussing the Hate Crime Act on BBC. This time on the Seven with Graham Stewart. Bit of it here

Very happy to announce that son Mark and his partner Emrys are both well after birth of Shiloh at 2.16 am this morning. My beautiful 2nd grandson. Welcome to the world wee man, you'll make it a better place.
"Police Scotland have a commitment to put human rights at the heart of all we do". Chief Constable Iain Livingstone, Guardian 21st March 2022. Discuss in relation to this video....

Have to say I thought the Herald reporting of the Hate Crime Act was very irresponsible today. It is important to be accurate in the explanation of law.
#HateCrime
We are aware of inaccurate media reporting about training material in place for the introduction of the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021.
More info:
This training is based on explanatory notes for the new Act:
They said it couldn't happen (mostly by myself over the years) but I am happy to announce in the midst of the electoral aftermath I have been promoted to Senior Lecturer in Law

Due to the level of disorder in George Square, Police Scotland will make use of powers available under Section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 to disperse those who have chosen to gather.
The senior police officer on the ground will give direct instructions to those gathered.
Misreading of the law here from John Swinney. There was no Gender Reform law ruling from the Supreme Ct. And the s.35 veto does not preclude altering the Bill. I would have thought he would have known that

A sad day, the world lost a good guy yesterday and I lost a pal of 33 years (my entire adult life). What a hellish year we have all had. A picture from when we were younger men. Sleep well Wullie, ill never forget you.
@AaronBastani
Some people may not like Corbyn but they will not trust people that betray their "friends". Hence Starmer's crisis. Blair, David Miliband etc don't pretend to like anyone so will never have that problem.
I don't get the argument here on mass evictions if rent freeze introduced. The whole point of introducing the Private Residential Tenancy in 2017 was ending "no fault" evictions. Wanting to collect a higher rent is not a ground in law for eviction.
#housinglaw
You've highlighted a vital issue but your proposal isnโt workable & would make things worse by risking a tidal wave of evictions. Green MSPs will be focusing on our ground-breaking commitment to deliver rent controls that are robust & have lasting benefit
Again reminder that Stephen House ex CC of Police Scotland is responsible for public order policing in London now. Mentioned in my Edinburgh Law Review article. Offer still open if people want copy.

Well this isn't the way I expected my half century birthday to go...but even in isolated times it's much better than the alternatve. The Struggle Goes On!
2 years ago I was in shock as my friend Eddie left us. We couldn't gather to remember him as lockdown was beginning. In today's lovely weather we went up the Whangie hill to remember him. Go well Ed.
Big day today for civil liberties in Scotland. Review into policing of miners' strike published. Justice at last 35 years on. Innovative work from

The SSBA spoke to

today to try and resolve the issue of the failure to distribute the Resilience Fund, a vital lifeline for embattled firms. Unfortunately no clear assurances were given, so the nationwide court boycotts planned for tomorrow will take place

My Grandson Ollie was born 7 weeks ago. He has seen 2 monarchs, 2 PMs (soon to be 3) 3 Chancellors and 3 Home Secretaries. He's here to stay!

Not sure about that Michael. This is a private contractual arrangement. JC is not being refused entry as customer. Parallel though not direct would be the gay marriage cake case.

Public Inquiry called under Inquiries Act 2005 like current Grenfell and Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry. Rather than Fatal Accident Inquiry under Inquiries into Fatal Accidents etc(Scotland) Act 2016. Think this is first for an individual death

Good (and accurate) summary of the legal issues around UK' s challenge to Continuity Bill from
@PeatWorrier
I struggle to believe his colleagues have "drinking cronies" tho ....
Shameful from Labour on not opposing Bill which bolsters illegal action by the state. Blacklisting anf the infiltration of campaign groups by police is not a historical memory. Well done to Corbyn and the rest.

Lack of contrition, forcing a trial and her public political role on a crime of honesty means difficult to avoid custody. Bit like Sheridan. Fair point on child but guess that will have been explored before sentence.

@RMTunion
Conic timing brilliance . Mick turns his head, pauses and looks at actual picket line. "Does it look like the miners' strike?" Even the journo laughed at that.
The Independent Advisory Group (not an offficial institution of policing in Scotland) could explore why Police Scotland did not impose a s.30 stop and search order on Glasgow City Centre last weekend when it did the same for the BLM protest in June 2020.
#policescotland
I think you call this "regulatory capture" The Vice Chair of the Scottish Police Authority donning riot gear in prep for COP26. Remember the SPA is mean to hold Police Scotland to account.

Tributes paid to mesh scandal legal expert Professor Alison Britton, one of Scotlandโs most outstanding patient advocates as she passes away aged just 63.
Remarkable similarities in this story and attempted recruitment of Tilly Gifford as environmental protestor up here by Police Scotland a few years ago. No Scottish Public Inquiry though
