Surgical drain snapped off inside patient abdomen during removal on ward. #IRAD TO THE RESCUE! Two wires negotiated under xray guidance through drain. 12x20mm balloon inflated within drain for traction & 12x40mm balloon used to dilate tract during withdrawl. Avoided open surgery

My new favourite case of all time. A massive rupturing 7cm renal artery aneurysm embolised with an Amplatzer plug, Ruby coils & Onyx, with preserved flow to the kidney, static U&E's and home within a few days with no open surgical intervention. I LOVE #irad #withoutascalpel

So pleased to be doing my 1st varicocoele & UAE after 4months abstinence. Varicocoele done in 9mins (3mins screening) & UAE in 34mins (10mins screening), so not lost my touch. Along with a PTC, angio, US kidney biopsy and CT pancreatic drain - a perfectly varied list @nhsuhcw

6F sheath "snapped off" in femoral/iliac vein during cardiac procedure. CALL IR! Unable to snare as ends embedded in vessel wall. 7F Endoscopy Biopsy Forceps used via angled 7F sheath to give directional control. Grabbed & removed thru coaxial 12F sheath. Better out than in!

Hard being on the other side but awesome experience @nhsuhcw for my really poorly boy with quinsy. Seen in 5mins by triage, then 30mins by ENT Consultant who aspirated lots of pus, then to ward for IV antibiotics & a @SUBWAY all within a few hours. Amazing #teamuhcw

Uterine Fibroid Embolisation is one of my favourite procedures @nhsuhcw Seeing the patient in clinic, arranging/reviewing MRIs and assessing UFS-QOL symptom severity & quality of life score pre and post procedure is a perfect example of how we should do all our procedures in IR.

In FY 2019/20 we did 365 IR day cases, bringing in £425,000 to the IR budget. Admin, paperwork & coding is so important to demonstrate activity & value to the Trust. #MoneyTalks

Loved teaching on the @vygonuk TIVAD Port Insertion Course @nhsuhcw Surgical Training Centre. Nothing like learning on human cadaveric tissue, to gain the tactile experience of percutaneous puncture, tunnelling & suturing, in a hyper realistic surgical environment.

@DrDLittle 9 seems much more reasonable than the 39 ST1's we're taking on in the West Mids. But as @PMccoubrie points out, it's the passion & commitment of trainers, ES's & CS's which keeps the system going. Low morale, workload figure monitoring & pension taxation could see it all collapse
