Giving someone dose 1 of a vaccine & having them sign consent paperwork under the promise they will receive dose 2 at a specific time and as recommended, but then changing that between doses, does not constitute informed consent.
Incredibly disheartened by my MSRA results as it is pretty much already apparent that (miracle excepting), for a third year running, I won't be able to get a job in the area I want. I'm jaded and disillusioned by the system, our leaders, and my career as a whole...
@siyom__
Can't find the paper, but there was a marked increase in paracetamol overdoses following it appearing in an episode of Coronation Street. (though no official data proving causation)
Dose 2 of my

is done. I'll be 95% less likely to get

- that's less chance of transmitting it to my patients, my colleagues, my family, my friends and to you.
How have we designed a system that is so impersonal that caring for others involves me being separated from my home & all that I know and enjoy. There is clearly need & capacity; trusts I want to work at are hiring MAP roles & clinical fellows.
The entire structure makes me want to scream into a pillow. I don't know how much longer I can keep putting progression in my career on hold. And for what - middling pay, years of more antisocial shifts, and dealing duplicitous & exploitative leadership.
Whatever comes of these strikes (which will be full FPR π¦), I will now always have a default mistrust of management - locally, regionally, nationally - I will treat them all with complete suspicion.
It's very clear they're not ever on our side.
All I want to be able to do is to stay close(ish) to home - near my family, my parents who are getting older, near my friends & support network. I have no wish, at nearly 30, to uproot my life and struggle to make a footing somewhere new. (Before having to do it again in 3 years)

I was told in response to potentially moving to [city I won't name so people don't mad] that it was a 'great night out'. I remember thinking that next time my mum is unwell & needs help it would all be ok because I would be in popworld with some teenagers.
I just don't understand what else I am meant to do. I am a great colleague, I'm good with patients, I've never failed an exam. When I return to places I have worked people are happy to see me. But none of this counts.

Pretty appalling that it is falling upon grieving parents to appear on TV to make the common-sense points that medical leaders should be
The irony is, the more they attack us, the more we connect, and the more determined & stronger we get, and the more united we become.

MSRA went badly. Clinical knowledge was fine, but the SJT was awful. Pretty demoralised about the state of medical recruitment after doing it.
Can't wait to get offered a job (if at all) for a place I've never heard of and have to uproot my life <3
@julian_donovan
It is heartbreaking to read this. You are gas-lighting yourself that as a highly skilled professional you do not deserve fair pay for your expertise and knowledge. How can we as a profession advocate for our patients if we cannot advocate for ourselves?
Recently, I've been thinking a lot about this random afternoon in September 2011 when we had to start our personal statements
Teacher: so what are you going to apply for?
Me: music I think
Teacher: but you're doing chemistry and biology, if I were you, I'd do medicine
My uncle is a local GP and we have the same very distinctive surname
I introduced myself to a patient as "Dr P...", they looked me up and down suspiciously, and said "No, you're not"
@theveindoc
The discourse on all of this has become so toxic and without any leadership seemingly doing anything to sort it out, I'm really not sure how/where this ends.
@veggieequallife
Agree- there has been this push of dehumanisation of doctors which I find frustrating.
From the press/public, but also the fire comes from inside the house with the rigid expectations of 'professionalism' being a (not so subtle code) for put yourself last & repress all feelings.

@clare_eliza
Couldn't have said it better myself. Not sure what the aim of this tweet was other than to belittle a junior colleague trying their best to be helpful.
If I do have one small bit of medical advice... try not to have a throat-clearing tic in the midst of a viral pandemic where one of the main symptoms is a dry cough. Your colleagues and patients won't appreciate it.
@DRROBERTROYCE
If they waived my student loan I would be back at work first thing on Tuesday. But alas a boy can dream. The social contract has been broken and our generation have only ever been someone to financially exploit and profit off of.
I was a junior doc for many years and of course they should campaign for the best Ts and Cs. But I could never support the BMAβs approach to withdraw patient care as a negotiating tactic. Using patient care as a bargaining chip is beyond βrecklessβ, itβs shameful.
Please can someone explain how rings, dangly earings, long sleeves, watches and bracelets are a red-line absolutely not.
But bringing a therapy pet dog or "reindeer" or whatever onto a ward gets the green light for a photo-op to put on the trust's social media?

Become friends with the nurses, HCAs & pharmacy. You need their help & advice. They will save you countless times so take their concerns/thoughts seriously. Be approachable - always.
@Medic83679624
Go home on time. Half an hour is fine, but If you're regularly staying later than that, there are wider problems with your ward and you staying late will not resolve them. Go home you need and deserve time off.
@Thornton_health
'Just workers' .... christ. There's a chasm between what you think leadership entails and what it actually is.
Your contempt for your junior, senior, and future colleagues shines through.

Some people still on the fence, but this vote is about more than just the issue on the table.
It is a clear signal to the gvt that this generation of doctors will not be pushovers.

(2/2) this doesn't align to that scenario: people have consented to a 3w process which halfway through - for reasons that are not due to a change in their personal clinical picture - has suddenly been altered.
This is not what they consented ergo not informed consent.
@uk24_live
@TheBMA
It is not a pay rise. It is pay restoration to return our pay to the levels it was in 2008 - which equates to 26%. We are not worth a quarter-less than we were 15 years ago. (I agree- the government did waste billions!)
So what exactly was it about this 8-day old foot pain that you can weight bear on,
and has been getting gradually better since you dropped that book on it that has bought you into A&E on Christmas Eve at 3am?
Whatβs a medical term you always spell wrong regardless of how many times youβve encountered it? The number of times Iβve written Chrons disease is alarming.
@ShaunLintern
Unfortunately, we've reached a state of play where the 'toxicity' and 'lashing out' seems to be the only way results and change is getting achieved.
@tomhfh
6 months into what is going to be almost definitely 12 months (at least) dispute I reckon this is fair enough really. Gov't has been negotiating in bad faith thus far - why not get "ideological" about it?
@SteveODare
@DrBenSpencer
It's a pay restoration, not a pay increase, to restore our loss of earnings that have been eroded by below inflationary pay offers over the past 15 years since 2008. Are we a worth a quarter of what we were then, or working a quarter of the time?
Police should be as accountable for their actions and decisions as us.
If you can't make sensible decisions that affect peoples' lives whilst under stress and in difficult circumstances, then you shouldn't be granted authority where you're able to do so
