@devisridhar That academics write papers in their own time, for free, which publishers then get other academics to peer-review for free, then the publishers sell those papers back to universities at high cost. See also: academic conferences

@KayBurley @MaryBoustedNEU @NEUnion Schools have been open every day throughout those two years. Check your facts - it’s all very easily accessible data. Then think about the unknown risks staff took, over that time to keep them open.

@DJGould94 I think the shocking regularity of women having ‘Dr’ taken away whilst men have it emphasised on tv and radio interviews would explain some of this. I have seen interviews where the double standard is applied to a man and woman standing next to each other. It’s annoying.

@EssexSmoggy A year ago I would have agreed, but having read Gangsta Granny with my son, I have changed my mind. It was funny and challenged the stereotypes it had set up. Yes the plot is daft and has fart jokes, but the ending had us both in tears and talking about death, family, caring.

@branwenjeffreys @TheNFER Huge elephant in the room is the number of women in their 30s leaving teaching. We have created a job that makes it difficult to have caring responsibilities outside of work, then try and attract and retain people who are morally motivated by only offering more money…

@DanielBundred I would invite them for an exit interview. As a new lead, you have SO MUCH to learn from people who are leaving and they might tell you things that others don’t feel able to. Listen, discuss how things could be improved and what you will do next with their valuable feedback.

@1_more_teacher @MrTs_NQTs It’s not controversial- it’s much more controversial to say something positive about ITE. We do our best, and when you talk about ITE it’s important to remember that there is no provider that work separately to a school partnership. It isn’t Uni vs school.

@smithsmm IMHO if you have caring responsibilities outside of work as well, it is one of the hardest jobs - teaching, nursing etc. Rewarding, yes. Joyful oh yes. But being responsible for care 24/7 js not comfortable. Many jobs, whilst hard, give you respite from buck stops here care.
