A certain indie studio with an Amazon show and YouTube series also started outsourcing their animation recently. Threw a solid handful of animators out of work. Kinda wish that was being talked about more 🙃

Constantly thinking about how we live in Burbank, the supposed animation capitol, and every studio is happily outsourcing ACTUAL ANIMATION jobs for every show. I know multiple animators (including my husband) that are and have been out of work for MONTHS. Show up Saturday.

Deleting this thread soon so, - The studio in question started outsourcing animation - it DID put mutuals of mine out of work - A LOT of major studios do this for faster/cheaper labor (still not a great thing) - I was expecting a bit more integrity from the studio in question.

If you've ever wondered exactly how difficult it is finding work in the industry currently, a friend of mine and classmate from SCAD worked on an animated film that (hint hint) JUST won an OSCAR, and he has STILL been looking for consistent work since the production on it ended

From my entire initial thread, there was nothing I said that even hinted to that I wasn’t a fan of the shows or the studio head. I never even dropped a name. It’s all business and how it affects my peers. If the owner of the studio/teams takes OFFENSE to THAT, that’s kinda 😬

Just to be clear, if any one of y'all still love the shows, that's fine. This not to discourage you from watching them. I'm only asking y'all to be critical when it comes to stuff that happened behind the scenes. Cause at the end of day, these artists/animators deserve better.

I speak for a lot of us here when I say thank you to all of the fantastic creators/showrunners with huge followings who have stood up for animation rights over the past few weeks and further back. I think it’s really telling to see creators use their platforms in meaningful ways

A lot of freelance artists in the animation space are looking for full-time work, and I feel there’s a disconnect with non-animation folks thinking freelance is basically just working “remotely.” No, freelance work is way more inconsistent. Lots of dry patches here and there.

The one thing I truly prey the TAG fights for in the negotiations process (besides much better pay, residuals, protections against Ai) is for more Remote and freelance work positions. I want to work at these studios, but I also really can’t afford to live in LA right now 😭

@theartofsinh_ saw this on linkedin too. i love that particular outsourcing studio, but its also the same issue i have where work is restricted based on having EU residency. I pray those kinds of restrictions are lifted or changed in the future.

@RedshellOW Holy shit. Wallride DOES NOT inflict damage + knockback. Grapple does. Additionally, the value you get from running Ball on certain maps for stall/point pressure/building ult charge is extremely low risk and high reward. You literally play for time while doing damage.

Just got reminded about this (based on personal experience + others) If an industry employer reaches out to you and wants you to download the app "telegram" for an interview, it's a scam. absolutely do not use that app for interviews/trading sensitive information.

I dont follow the sonic franchise at all, but I think it's important to know that if it wasn't for the outcry to revise sonic's initial design from the first movie, I HIGHLY doubt there would be 3 of these films. it really shows that knowing your target audience just works well

@anxietybirb @FroggerOW The piercing damage/heals of her ultimate are very unique. Though I think the damage should be reduced whenever a barrier is in the way. So Rein/Sig/Orisa shield plus Sym wall will negate a lot of the damage.

No offense to any studios at all in particular, but a lot of freelance work is project based / assignment based. After that, you may be waiting a long long time until you’re assigned anything, meaning you’re gonna have to wait for your pay.

I think it’s time for us industry peeps to be more welcoming and accepting of having a full-time / day job that has little to nothing to do with our animation journey. The inconsistency of our field is just way too unforgiving to go full-time into animation, at least for now.

Had some silly company try to get me to take an ‘animation’ test specifically using Adobe illustrator. I told them the test was not worth my time and explained that they could literally just use Adobe flash/animate for everything and I never heard anything else back from them

There’s unfortunately a LOT of tax reasons too as to why I’ve been snubbed from potential jobs, but I’ll never forget how straight out of school I was being considered for a design role on 101 Dalmatian street, however I was denied for remote/visa reasons. I was super bummed.
