Baseball cards + Detroit sports. Once called, "The worst account on Tigers Twitter."
Defender of Ty Cobb from further misinformed slander.
Sweet Lou in HOF!!
@JoeRiveraSN
💯
MLB should have games starting from 11 a.m. Eastern to 8 p.m. Western.
Five nationally televised games, from morning to way past sundown.
As I've noticed, though, MLB isn't run by people who love baseball.
I've been thinking about the upcoming Miguel Cabrera statue at Comerica Park.
Needs to be one of two ways:
1. Miggy taking a ball to right field with power. How many times did we see that in his heyday?
2. Happy, gregarious Miggy. That big-kid personality we will never forget.
Jason Benetti just pissed me off.
Because he is forwarding the Tigers front-office narrative that the fan base is being unreasonable and impatient.
Horse shit.
I don't expect the Tigers to win the World Series this year. I expect them to react to unchanging poor play.
@BenVerlander
Robot.
Umpires.
Now.
These people are completely irrelevant to the game. If they were eliminated tomorrow, it would take the baseball-watching public one day to adjust and completely accept their absence.
Jace Jung had a 1.012 OPS in Toledo in June.
The Tigers aren't trying to win. It's that simple.
"B-but his defense at third!"
Oh yeah, right. The Tigers sure are a team that prides themselves on their infield defense. Let's ask Kreidler or McKinstry.
Why I'm increasingly optimistic about Scott Harris ...
Zach McKinstry and Michael Lorenzen were acquisitions that excited virtually no one. Their recent histories were uninspiring.
Harris is doing what he said he was going to do: Finding correctible, unlockable guys.
@Tigers
@Super70sSports
We had an embarrassment of broadcasting riches back in the day.
Pat Summerall - Tom Brookshier (yeah, that's right, kiddos. Not Madden.)
Dick Enberg - Merlin Olsen
Frank Gifford - Howard Cosell - Dandy Don Meredith on MNF.
"Stolen card" update: One week after FedEx Ground said my card was signed for and delivered while I was on vacation, this appears this p.m. in my mailbox, in a grungy looking envelope.
I have no idea what's going on, but whatever. I have my card. Massive relief.
@CardPurchaser
When I was a kid, Mark Fidrych's rookie year - and particularly his Monday Night Baseball, national TV win over the Yankees - cemented me as a Tigers fan for life.
I took my 11-year-old son to Comerica today, I think Matt Vierling just did the same thing for him.
@Tigers
Andy Dirks' analysis of how Kenta Maeda was playing with fire by being too timid to go inside ... great stuff that obviously proved true.
Dirks is good at this.
#Tigers
Stop dicking around, Tigers.
- Colt Keith to 1B
- Jace Jung, WHO WON A MINOR LEAGUE GOLD GLOVE AT 2B LAST YEAR and who is struggling at third, to 2B.
- Hao-Yu Lee to 3B.
Not necessarily now on the parent club (but why not?). Organizationally.
Or do we like bad infield defense?
Went to Walmart. There was one lonely 2023-24 Donruss Optic Mega Box on the shelf. My rule: One box left? You MUST snag it.
It worked again. 👀
Wemby Rated Rookie Hyper Orange /99!
@CardPurchaser
In JANUARY I sold a guy a Mosaic Domantas Sabonis Orange Florescent Prizm /25. It started at the post office, then just vanished off tracking. After a few weeks, I refunded the guy.
Which made this a fun September surprise!
@CardPurchaser
@nut_history
Curt Schilling, and it's not particularly close.
But we now exclude players from the Hall of Fame because pencil-necked sportswriters "just don't like him."
2023 = Miggy farewell year.
2024 = 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Champs
2025 = 80th anniversary of the 1945 World Champs
2026 = 125th anniversary of the team founding.
Great news, Chris Ilitch! We can milk nostalgia and not worry about winning for three more years!

@nut_history
B.
People seem to forget that in addition to his incredible natural talent (great pitcher who as a power bat out-homered other TEAMS), The Babe would today have access to all of the analytics, nutrition, supplements, improved training that modern players use.
Rob Manfred didn't punish a single player in the Houston Astros cheating scandal.
Rob Manfred lets Angel Hernandez and other terrible umpires keep doing their jobs incompetently year after year.
But you bat boys better have your shit together; MLB is watching you.
@nut_history
@TexasCheese420
Shoeless Joe Jackson, who "worked to throw the 1919 World Series" by batting .375 with a .956 OPS, 8 RBI and error-free in the field.
🙄
@BradGalli
Honestly? Don't read too much into his words right now.
He's speaking from a hurt place, because he really wanted to be back in Detroit. So he's kind of lashing out.
When we knew we had a 1/1 out of a box of 2023 Topps World Baseball Classic - but before we knew what it was - my 11-year-old son insisted I video the reveal with "intense music.'" 😂
@JakeM0NTGOMERY
I wanted to choose Billy Sims too. But you're forcing me to choose one.
It has to be Vladimir Konstantinov. Who would have had a Hall of Fame career were it not for that limousine accident.
@danorlovsky7
Neither T-Law nor Lamar Jackson are "win because of" QBs. Come on.
And have you seen Aaron Rodgers play lately? I'm mystified at what Jets fans think they are getting. It's not 2010.
@BenVerlander
2006 St. Louis Cardinals. Who used wet fields, rain day cancellations and Tigers pitchers suddenly unable to field their position to rob a loaded Detroit team of a championship.
@nut_history
The first one that comes to mind is Ted Williams batting .406, leading the league in home runs, having a 235 OPS+ (😳) and not winning MVP in 1941. (DiMaggio)
@Super70sSports
Awful synthesizer? Check.
Simplistic-in-a-bad-way melody? Check.
We've almost got it. But do we have inane lyrics that could have been written by a kindergartner?
How 'bout
Abra-abra-cadabra
I wanna reach out and grab ya?
Yes! We've done it!
This was pulled on Chomps Live Breaks last night, a place I frequent. Sadly, not by me.
That is without question the most beautiful Trout card I have ever seen -- and maybe the best card of anyone.
@CardPurchaser
@Topps
I need more than just a follow-back. Juanjo should be required to reply to my tweets with comments like, "That's a great point!" and, "That's hilarious, my brother!"
A Christmas Eve-Eve rip?
Yes, let's.
A lot of potentially good stuff out of this: Shohei, Trout, Mookie, Freeman, Acuña, Roki Sasaki ...
Hits to follow!
@TreIindor20
For starters, the two obvious ones: The lottery was rigged for Patrick Ewing to the Knicks, and the refs took the Western Conference Finals away from the Sacramento Kings and to Shaq, Kobe and the Lakers.
@Super70sSports
Pure Chicago.
I miss these guys too. From an era before everyone on the planet was bleating sports opinions. You could smell the newspaper ink, whisky and cigars with The Sportswriters on TV.
@DetroitPistons
@wingstop
Turns out when your architect builds a team full of marginal big men and guys who can't shoot or play together or play defense, and then hires a coach who doesn't want to be there but you gave him too much money to say no, this happens.
Jared Goff took the Rams to the Super Bowl at 24. Won a road playoff game at Seattle 2 weeks after breaking his thumb. His reward was getting scapegoated and kicked to the curb.
Stafford didn't win a meaningful thing 12 yrs in Detroit.
It's The Goff Game, not The Stafford Game.
@Super70sSports
The Detroit Lions taking bust TE Eric Ebron 10th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Every single one of the next SEVEN players taken was a multiple-time Pro Bowler.
Between them they earned 32 Pro Bowls and 14 All-Pros.
@nut_history
I'll say Jimmie Foxx.
.325 batting average, 1.038 OPS and 163 OPS+ -- average over a 20-YEAR career.
He's in the top 10 all-time for RBI in thousands of at-bats fewer than most on the list.
He's considered a great, but he needs to be considered like a top 2 or 3 great.
@TreIindor20
The NFL coddles the Green Bay Packers as their cute, small market, old-school-history team, and because of their marquee QBs for decades.
They always get the benefit of calls and non-calls. It's worse in prime-time games, and especially against lower-echelon teams like my Lions.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s current .328 batting average is 62 points higher than last year. And he's already matched his HR and RBI totals from last year with a month to go.
He's an absolute star who I don't feel like gets the universal respect as one.
@MLBONFOX
@blessyouboys
What's scary is Altuve didn't do any of that, "No, this game is too important; let me stay in." He bolted to the dugout. Something's broke.
@nut_history
Mark Fidrych went from a baseball career that was far too short, to a life that was far too short.
Died when a truck he was working on at his farm slipped and fell on him, at age 54.
Went to my LCS, Rochester Sports Cards, for
#ToppsRipNight
.
The swag bags they gave out included 2024 Topps Big League blaster boxes.
I pulled this out of mine. My first J-Rod auto ever!
@CardPurchaser
They are basically accusing the fan base of being unreasonable and impatient in the most passive-aggressive way: the patting on the head, "we understand you emotion-driven fans. But we're being intelligent about it."
No, you're being inactive and accepting of the unacceptable.
I don't know how you eBay card sellers who do high volumes do it. Do you have employees?
I've been grinding on this all Sunday, and I'm only putting up about 60 cards!
@bythewaybro
And exactly none of the young players who came up lit it up from the jump. They all had to find their way up here, and Hinch and the coaching staff successfully navigated that.
