Minor league baseball games bring communities, especially mid-sized towns, together. It’s past time that players were compensated fairly but excited to see workers organizing and winning!
BREAKING: Minor league baseball players—among the lowest earning workers in America, who are paid as little as $7/hour by billionaire MLB owners—have reached a first union contract that would more than double the pay of all players.
Black folks working in repro in ANY capacity—we have a call scheduled for next week to discuss All* and the host of issues we’ve been facing in repro. DM me if you would like the calendar invite.
So many incredible people sharing their abortion stories today in front of the San Antonio City Council to pass this resolution to protect abortion access. I was proud to share that I've had abortions, including one in San Antonio, and represent
@URGE_org
. Today we fight.
Black in Repro Call
Vent. Share. Listen. Strategize.
The purpose of the call is to discuss the recent situation with All* Above All as well as discuss movement wide anti-Blackness.
This call is open to Black people working in repro in any capacity.
If you’re Black in South and Central
#Texas
and interested in doing some repro justice stuff, please let me know. If this doesn’t apply to you, please RT!
I’m in utter shock and am absolutely disgusted with this All* situation. If the goal of repro organizations is to be so anti-Black that all Black people leave repro, then I wish we could just be honest about that because it seems like the cruelty is the point.
My abortions have allowed me to develop into the person who I want to be on my own time. They have allowed me to regain autonomy at times when it was stripped from me. They saved me money so I could have financial stability. They’ve made me a better family member and friend.
Why are you grateful for your abortion?
Mine changed my life so I could explore the world and ensure others could have access at any time and for any reason.
Abortion rights are gone in KY. Within weeks this could be half the country. Stop

Decided that I’m going to donate to every abortion fund in Texas for Valentine’s Day because I love that we have options across the state to fund abortion. ❤️
Will you commit to donate to an abortion fund in your state? Abortion funds need the love!

I FINALLY got my open records request information on the St. Mary’s pilot parking program so looks like I’ve got 523 pages of weekend reading! It’s clearly election season since I actually got a response after over six months.
It absolutely matters? This would have consequences that could extend beyond mife legally, Aid Access isn’t an option for many pregnant people for a host of reasons, and this tweet were true, we shouldn’t bother fighting any abortion restrictions. Incredibly irresponsible take.

My light reading for this week is “Fighting Their Own Battles: Mexican Americans, African Americans, and the Struggle for Civil Rights in Texas.”
Navigating the rampant anti-Blackness from non-Black Latinx folks here is like a full-time job.
I think about this often. Abolitionists who cannot even be trusted to handle the people in their own community talking about “abolition is the only way”. Like…what is praxis, friends? The math isn’t mathing.
thats cute u want abolition but as of rn u dont deal with ppl in your communities who do harm & dont ever go to jail. u victimblame and enable them. so no i dont trust any of your intentions. thanks bye.
So I paid for a
@missionsmilb
game and instead I experienced battery. One of the mascots literally stuck a hand in my hair and grabbed, which is completely unacceptable.

Non-Black people getting Juneteenth off as a holiday when Black people haven’t received reparations will never sit well with me. Giving it off at your or company isn’t the flex you think it is.
If you need safer sex materials and you’re in San Antonio or Austin, slide in my DMs. Plan B. Condoms. Pregnancy tests. Let me know and we’ll coordinate. Please RT so folks in

know that one Roe don’t stop no show.
Honestly, it’s getting to (gotten to?) the point where it is embarrassing to say that I work in repro because I’d also like for people to believe I have some self-respect. And with the way this movement treats Black people, it’s hard to reconcile it all.
UPDATE: I received an apology and an offer for a refund from

I appreciate everyone who checked in on me —I’m still horrified that this happened and probably won’t be going back, but I’m grateful for the rapid response of community to engage on this.

We were not interacting at all, I was walking by the 3rd base entrance to go get a hotdog and beer, and all of a sudden I feel something IN MY HEAD and I turn to see the mascot pulling a hand out and walked away. This is what patrons are subjected to?

As a person with ADHD, I’m really looking forward to an unnecessary in-person visit to be able to get the meds that help me function. Particularly cruel given how much effort it can take folks with ADHD to schedule and follow through in the first place.
BREAKING: The Biden administration has moved to require patients see a doctor in person before getting attention deficit disorder medication or addictive painkillers, toughening access to the drugs against the backdrop of a deepening opioid crisis.
The call will not be recorded. There will not be notes taken on personal stories. This is not a space open to EDs/Presidents/CEOs who are Black due to the power imbalance it would create.
I am horrified and embarrassed and feel so violated. There are so few Black people in San Antonio and to be treated like a spectacle while on a date that I PAID FOR is just so deplorable.

The cheese stands alone.
Only District residents pay federal taxes, go to war, & have no vote in Congress. No matter how you slice it, it’s not grate, & it’s no whey to live. This gives us a queso the blues. It’s un-American. Unless we fight, we’ll die from age before it changes.

I'm so sorry that people are doing this. As a person who caught COVID from Creating Change, you weren't doing the most or anything of the sort. I wish more people cared.
But none of this is shocking given the stealing of labor that people associated with this org have done from Black women in repro. If you’re surprised by All* or any other org, I can only assume you’ve been ignoring Black people working in repro for…well, forever.

Kyle,
When I was a senior in high school, the same classmates who assumed I got into top-tier schools due to affirmative action also sat in silence when a teacher screamed the n-word in my face. As a 16 year old, I faced that alone.
Not all 16 year olds get to be innocent.
1/ THREAD: Harvard rescinded my acceptance.
Three months after being admitted to Harvard Class of 2023, Harvard has decided to rescind my admission over texts and comments made nearly two years ago, months prior to the shooting.
I have some thoughts. Here’s what happened.
So excited to be joining the National LGBTQ Task Force as Senior Policy Counsel on Monday aka my 30th birthday! 🥳 Today is also a hard day—my grandfather passed away this morning. But I know he’d be so proud of me and I will do my best in everything to honor his memory. ❤️
Never thought I'd be having this conversation in my lifetime - but more and more of my women friends in New York are talking about setting up an underground network to help women in red states have access to abortion here. We are living the damn Handmaid's Tale!
Excited to vote for

Feeling infuriated about the Rittenhouse verdict. Honestly, feeling despair about the state of the country right now in a deeper and more visceral way than usual.
How can we de-radicalize people on the right? 🧵
As a young adult I had a poster of Reagan & did a DC internship where I had to attend secret NRA meetings & take notes. I idolized Ann Coulter.
Now I’m a women’s rights atty fighting for abortion access.
People can change.

Forcing someone to have a procedure, reversible or not, is wrong. *People need access to safe abortions, but we also need to consider the ways in which people are coerced reproductively and not joke about them or make light of them.
As a person who managed to squeeze in my abortion two weeks before SB 8 took affect in Texas, I’ve been fearing this moment for awhile. The scariest feeling is not knowing if you’ll be able to access the abortion you need on time.
I see the generational divide right now in responses from Black folks. 40+ year olds clutching pearls over the slap, while my peers and I are tired of being disrespected verbally without consequence.
Hey
@missionsmilb
, you’ve got 45 minutes to respond to my email before I start tagging media outlets since apparently it is fine for your mascots to grab Black women’s hair.
It makes me sick when people frame what’s happening like this. Not everyone wants a medication abortion. It’s not the best option for everyone. All pregnant people should have access to as many options as they want without restrictions.
Today has been the shittiest day that I have had in a long time, but I am so glad that it has given me the clarity that I need to move forward. Trying to shift to a place of gratitude so I can move through what I'm experiencing.
I wish white people would acknowledge that their experience is not the same as people of color.
What I had to overcome as a Black woman to be an attorney is not the same as even the poorest of white people.
Don’t call yourself a “first gen” lawyer when you come from an upper-middle class, predominantly white neighborhood with professional (usually college educated) parents, and you went to good or even elite universities even if your parents weren’t lawyers. It’s not appropriate.

Have you supported abortion activists yet today? If not, you should, because you get cool sweatshirts like this and protect people doing important work:
As a policy leader, every space isn’t a space where I’m going to lead with my personal connection to the work that I do, but it felt right in that moment. I think one of the most important aspects sharing
#OurAbortionStories
is that we do it when and where we want. That’s agency.
I hate to point out that abortion did *not* win a local election in San Antonio when people are so excited about abortion winning at state levels, but there are lessons to be learned from that and I don’t think we should ignore it simply because it was a local election.
It is (obviously) not open to press. And if somehow, the security is compromised, it will be shut down immediately and a message will be sent to participants in follow up.
First, I am THRILLED for the people who will no longer have student loan debt as a result of this plan. What an exciting opportunity to live a life unburdened by this barrier.
But it is not enough. And for many borrowers, namely Black women like me, this doesn't help. At all.
In keeping with my campaign promise, my Administration is announcing a plan to give working and middle class families breathing room as they prepare to resume federal student loan payments in January 2023.
I'll have more details this afternoon.
And another big fuck you to
@WHCommsDir
because so many of us who are "some activists" are also literally people who have navigated abortions in the most challenging states. We know EXACTLY what it is like to deal with these demeaning restrictions. We don't need condescension.
So yeah. I get pissed when people act as though AidAccess or SMA or anything else is going to fill the gaping holes left by abortion restrictions. Because so often, people speak without nuance.
The way we ensure access is to aggressive defense and to get creative proactively.
I’m getting more angry thinking about the comments from
@WHCommsDir
. It’s just so insulting to have our work denigrated & dismissed. Most of us have been working to the point of utter exhaustion for months now and finding more to give even still. I’m astonished at the arrogance.
I want to talk more about the toll it takes on Black women to go high, when they go low. Maintaining one's composure in the face of disrespect & bullshit takes so much out of you. I'm tired and it's only Wednesday
Abortion is health care. It is safe. It is necessary. It is health care. It’s only dangerous when politicians interrupt the flow between a pregnant person and their doctor and restrict access. Abortion is health care.

HRC losing hurt.
@ewarren
's exit from the race hurts. And it isn't because I love white women, capitalism, or even these messy electoral politics. It's a very selfish reason--it makes me lose hope for my own dreams.
One thing about non-Black people is that they’ll always choose anti-Blackness. In “progressive” spaces, I deal with this on a near daily basis and it is exhausting.
