Just a tip Carol. Your vid makes it easy to identify where you live. I found it after a very short piece of work. I’d honestly take it down. From an ex-cop. Hope you are OK
"He warned the young emergency workers that they could face a “cliff fall” of loneliness after they left their work in service, telling them that the trauma “catches up to you”.

He is right.
A very sad day regarding Nick Adderley. He has let a lot of people down.
Let's remember though, there is a flawed human being at the centre of this. That doesn't mitigate, but be kind.
All closer to home today, with the death of a much loved former colleague, and friend.
Rest easy brother. Tonight in our flowing cups you will be freshly remembered, and when this is over your colleagues will remember again.
You will never, ever be forgotten.
@DeborahMeaden
I did ages ago. My kids told me remain was the correct direction. They were right. If there was a new referendum tomorrow, i believe they will actually bother to vote this time. We are staring at a 30 year austerity scenario at present. Leaving will break the UK.
Humbled to have been appointed Senior Lecturer at

but proud to serve, and be part of the creation of excellence.
We don't teach people to lead people in the police. Even at the most junior levels, the armed forces send you on a course before you are let loose on them. So much damage has been inflicted, and so many good people lost from the service because of this.
Being a Leader is knowing your stuff and looking after your people. We test knowledge of the law with the exam. Why doesn’t the promotion process include testing people on what they know about maternity/paternity policy, very basic awareness of MH, DEI, sickness management etc?

I think folk would be much more appreciative of time being spent on fixing the economy, health service, transit and quality of life.
This is a sideshow taking up too much time

Not seeing an issue there. Passive resistance. Need to break the deadlock. Compliance techniques such as handcuffing and wristlocks, which unfortunately do inflict pain.
Alternative is to get up and walk and retain your dignity.
Utter nonsense.
If you can’t run social distancing at an amenity site, then there is no hope. Best stop folk doing outdoor exercise too
@HowardQuayleMHK
These stories need to be told.
For too long there has been a bullying culture in Isle of Man public services. Whilst I've been pleased to see improvements in my own former employee this case was vindication for many of us.

I disagree.
It is a dysfunctional family, maybe, but just like the Army, in a high stress, hi risk and high tempo environment the support of a 'family' - love, nurture, empathy and understanding are crucial if people are to thrive. Sense of belonging is also crucial.
The Isle Of Man wakes up to a much changed house of keys today. Some of the right people got in and some of the right people were elected.
Now for god’s sake, this time do something meaningful with the power and the privilege. Select your CM very carefully.
Well, that's another 50 minutes of my life I won't get back. A history lesson from Ray Harmer, and a complete inability of the Manx press to get in there with some really challenging questions - again!
Wake me up when all this is over. Too painful to listen to.
Government's job is to create the foundations that make the IOM an attractive place to live, economically viable to do business and provide an enabling framework.
The entrepreneurs will do the rest.
Whatever anyone’s views on the mismanagement of the Douglas Prom scheme, it pales into insignificance again this one, almost forgotten, in some foreign land.
And as always, nobody will be held accountable.
Unprecedented, clear, direct instructions from The UK Prime Minister.

I was PR Officer for the Constabulary for over ten years. Let me now put this in parlance which they are prevented from using;
JUST STAY THE F
@CK
AT HOME!
The sooner we crack this, the sooner our friends that are in fear of their jobs can get to work. And we save lives.
An Officer on patrol has reported that a worryingly high number of vehicles stopped were on non essential journeys or travelling longer than necessary . Taking a long drive home or driving from Douglas to Colby for a walk are 2 examples.
@RichardJMurphy
This was simple.
If you want to seek asylum or economic migration make your way to Rwanda. You'll then be processed and if you make the grade you get a free flight to the UK
Is it just me?
Instead of Rwanda, just having a team on the beaches of Northern France popping dinghy hulls when they pull up to load.
You can't put to sea in a boat that won't float.
I did some interesting calculations yesterday.
If you are on around 30 grand a year you are worse off on the IOM despite low taxation.
Stuff like this narrows any advantage that there was in other areas.
@CCGaryRoberts
Heard the news from another retiree a few hours ago. I spent the next hour quietly remembering the big man whilst watering the garden on this beautiful Manx evening.
Rest easy brother. Raising a glass to you now fella.
So disappointed to see that yet again, the Isle of Man Police is advertising externally for senior ranks - this time CI and Supt.
The continued failure to have sufficient internal candidates is an abject failure of their staff development programme.
Can't follow what's happened here? I thought Braddan could cover this?
DOI need to politely decline. Braddan rates can then go up 20% and the parishioners can decide how good an idea it was at the next local election
@NorthantsChief
We’ve just imposed a national 40mph limit here on the Isle of Man from midnight. Before that you could legitimately go as fast as you like.
The world is changing. If this place can change, so can anywhere.
I can at at times be the Isle of Man's greatest critic, but it stems from a profound love of the place.
I hope my three page article in this month's Porsche Post goes some way to conveying that. I've already 40 cars booked for 2024.

It's absolutely not.
These are highly complex procedural and judgement issues that need forensic investigation in a similar way to the CAA approach to flying incidents.
The current system looks for apportionment of blame. That is not conducive to progress.

The enlightened amongst us have been pointing out this gamblers fallacy risk for some time.

How did ‘financial services’ ever make it on to the key worker list.
And does their subsequent erasure from that list send a message to the sector that it is no longer seen as that important to the Isle of Man?
Hopefully the rider is ok, allegedly coming away from the NW200.
Rider spots the junction/tree ahead traveling at 110mph but is still traveling around 80mph as he crosses the stop line.
Luckily there is already a gap in the hedge.

Bit of a shout out to all my Manx family and pals. Bit of a rough couple of days and systems in meltdown. Hold your nerve, it will all sort itself.
But don't forget.
One sailing a day eh?
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but there does seem to be a real effort to make the Island less attractive to business, residents and tourism.
Another reason to bring in Misconduct in a Public Office in the Isle of Man.
Not one MHK or MLC I have broached this with has shown any appetite.
Why is that?
It's only 190 pages, but this has been one steep learning curve. Finally signed off the copy on this last night, and aiming for a publication date of the 3rd March 2023.

Big revelation from the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce at today's Gov't press conference;
"We were struggling as an economy before this"
Quite contrary to the message of Government, but absolutely realistic. We now have to admit this, and plan for a very different IOM future.
The Chase: Someone has just answered “what Island is Manx Ale brewed on?” With “the Isle of Wight”
I do wonder how well we are really marketing ourselves sometimes....
In other news - I believe this is the second, consecutive TT where there have been no open-road fatalities. That is a really big deal, and I'm surprised it hasn't been highlighted by the cops. Nobody really doing media these days maybe?

I’m beginning to see the Chief Minister in a different light. The foresight to somehow know that today’s senior race bank holiday was going to be a washout suggests mystical powers?
I’ve worked all over the world but I have never come across as many obstacles as I have here in the Isle of Man.
’We need a wake-up call in this island.’
Not my words, but those of Trevor Hemmings.
And I know he isn't alone with that sentiment!
This is a critically important case. In my view it is straightforward discrimination. I suffered badly from depression and anxiety whilst serving I didn't medicate due to some aspects of my role and decision making. If I knew then what I know now...
Small isolated communities should be the last on the list to embrace major adjustments to manage climate change.
Right now, this stuff is just another distraction for the Isle of Man.
There are significant swathes of Government that could take a haircut. Austerity doesn’t mean a drop in quality. Just doing the essentials for a while, in a smarter way. Knock climate on the head for a decade would be a start. That’s 42m back as an opener
£2m for answers the talent in the Manx Civil Service could come up with for free, which will be compiled into a report that will come to naught.

Hey banks.
How about a temp uplift in the contactless limit of 30 quid to stop us having to tap those Petri dish Point of Sale machine keys?
Just a thought.
@LawrieHooper
Any way you try and dress this up Lawrie, you've taken the wrong path. Had you stripped Govt out first, there might have been some wider acceptance. Cancelling Net zero, curtailed Liverpool, non-jobs.
It would all have counted. Instead, you've done over "skint little people"

Just of note, a pal of mine in the North West paid £215 for 900 litres of heating oil last week.
5 weeks ago, I paid well in excess of double that on the Isle of Man
If you live on the Isle of Man, you need to watch this.
You need to pay attention to it.
Government need to pay attention to it.
Because too many people aren’t listening. IOMG won’t impose stricter border controls so we cannot just go on as normal.
We are going to be well ahead of the UK if we just hold our nerve here on the Isle of Man.
