Not sure I'll ever complain about the cold again. Right now, the Mt. Washington Observatory in New Hampshire is the coldest spot on Earth with an air temperature of -45° and winds over 100 mph. That's an all time record low -106° wind chill for the US.

Gotta tell you, the 0Z GFS is coming in very close to the Euro. I have little doubt the NHC brings that track even more East at 11. Without exception, the SURGE is the major issue here. If you live on the water, do not underestimate this storm. If they say evacuate, do so.

One of my biggest concerns across the Tampa Bay area is downed trees. With heavy rain, and tropical storm winds for 36 hours, the ground will soften and these gusts can bring down trees. That also means more power outages. We're on LIVE all night long.

11pm Ian Update: The NHC continues to move the track toward the East and makes landfall in Pinellas County early Thursday morning. 30 miles either way will have a huge impact on how this storm impacts our area. The margin of error this far out is 75-100 miles.

Right on cue, the latest models continue to shift West. Again, this flip-flopping is guaranteed for days. Don't get too high with the good news, or low with bad news. These storms are incredibly fickle and do unexpected things. This track is not set in stone. not even close.

While we still don't have center, the GFS and Euro are now both bringing a hurricane into Florida next week. While fluctuations can and WILL occur, it looks like this will converge on the state next week. Whether it's North, South or Center, we still don't know. Stay tuned.

No changes to the latest NHC track on Nicole. Expect strongest winds to remain on the East coast, however, "squally" weather with gusts as high as 55 mph could certainly impact our area on Thursday. I would expect some power outages on Thursday in some spots. More to come...

Don't be surprised if the 11pm advisory is right on top of us. The models continue to trend West, and the NHC only takes "baby steps" in adjusting a track. Regardless of model or track change, you should use this weekend to prepare for whatever comes this way! Rule #7

UPDATE: Dorian has now slowed to 5 mph. This is a sign the ridge is weakening. Step 1 before the turn in a couple of days. Again, a very close call but the worst of the winds should stay offshore if the data is correct. And personal experience tells me models usually nail this.

Hello Debby. The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Debby to a Tropical Storm. No real changes to the track but they do bump up winds 5 mph upon landfall which would upgrade Debby to a hurricane.

This forecast is pretty straightforward. We don't have a low yet, so there is no "center" for the models to use. Once a center develops, the track becomes relatively easy. If the center forms in a more northerly position, it's probably Florida. South, it's Northern Gulf coast.
