We NEED research to explore such information - an increasing number of ACL injuries are not a good statistic - but I feel there are some inaccuracies around the direct relation to the menstrual cycle, and what this article clearly highlights is the following:

This past spring & summer, top women’s soccer players succumbed to ACL tears. Macario, Putellas, Press, Marozsan, Katoto, Davidson…an endless list of talent down in succession.
I wanted to find out why. Here’s what I found. For

Title should read ‘menstrual cycle’ not period (one phase of the MC). Let’s not scare our players - NUMBER 1! Make sure players have consistent habits and behaviors on + off the pitch. Track and monitor MCs + symptoms - anyone who says you shouldn’t has never been on the ground.

There are so many ways a woman in STEM can make an impact, and

is working hard to support the next generation of game changers.
A lot of people are doing good work in this area, which is great. The first step is education, awareness, break the taboo + symptom management to accelerate recovery/minimise impact + optimise performance. Beyond that it’s still an unknown,the more we research + share the better!
Train women as women! Let’s continue to determine, research, innovate and refine how we support and prepare our female athletes. There is a growing body of scientific research, but much more is needed, so let’s keep committing to this space to better support our female athletes.
Some really good training, practical and good practice recommendations - a big one for me, but often overlooked, is players being exposed to 90-95% of their peak speed in training for 2-3 efforts every week.
Great to see a growing interest + increase in information + research on female health + performance. We ARE breaking the taboo + this IS being highlighted. It is EVEN greater to see athletes openly talk about this, its impact + what they NOW understand. Bravo
