@ZachLowy Should West Brom push Barcelona into bankruptcy by suing for the non-payment of Louis Barry's transfer fee? Nearly 2 years unpaid and only c250k Euros. An utter disgrace that they haven't paid it yet.

Mick McCarthy spot on: “Sometimes players are just at a club for too long”. Not easy to get rid of those players when the club has lazily kept renewing their bloated contracts which no other clubs are going to match at this level. They somehow need to be paid off.

West Brom, West Ham, Stoke and Southampton all deserve to be relegated this season. Perfect case studies of exactly how not to run Premier League clubs. Totally inept management right from the boardroom/owners downwards.

The end of a brilliant tournament, superbly hosted by Guernsey. Nothing but amazing feedback from our visitors about our island, our people and our two fantastic cricket grounds. Around 200 visitors for approx 1,500 bed nights. Probably £150k+ GDP boost for the economy 1/2

An incredible win by @guernseycricket Under19s to secure promotion. Chasing 168, that’s some recovery from 58/6 to win by 2 wickets with 10 overs to spare. We knew they batted all the way down and they certainly stood up to be counted when it mattered! Enjoy the moment guys!

The debate over whether the SoG should borrow £500m is a no-brainer. At negligible current interest rates, long-term debt is ridiculously cheap. Pay it back over 50 years and £10m pa can surely be found from the imminent public sector reform even without tax increases.

Fantastic to see two great men honoured in this way. Sad that it was posthumous, but that’s very fitting as neither man ever sought personal glory for their massive contributions both to the game itself and to the lives of those for whom they made a massive difference.

@ESPNcricinfo Foakes arguably the best wicketkeeper in the world right now, who averages 32 in Test cricket (Jack Russell only averaged 27). Bairstow averages 36 (quite a few Tests not played as a keeper) but isn’t fit to lace Foakes’ boots as a keeper. That’s the biggest error this summer.

Can’t help thinking that if it cost us £10m a year to subsidise a ferry service to secure our lifeline sea route then it would be money well spent as an insurance policy, a bit like Aurigny. We can’t survive without secure air and sea links. That security comes at a price.

@timwig Appalling selection decision. Foakes is by far the best English keeper and offers so much at number 7 as a safety net with “Bazball”. The obvious person who should be dropped to make room for Bairstow is Crawley. If that means Bairstow having to open then so be it.
