CWC 2027 Qualifying Ladder Update

@CanadianCricket
storm to the top of the League 2 table.
Also, "storm" in Dubai washes the 2nd UAEvSCO game into the pending pile.
(for "storm" read "light-to-moderate rainfall, which as usual is Scotland's fault")

Just gonna point out the literally all of this tedious Umpire's Call discourse could have been avoided if they'd just done the graphics like this in the first place.
Scotland beat three full members at this tournament and won't make the World Cup.
Those were the last ODIs against full members that they have on the calendar.
Like what are we actually doing with International cricket?
#CWCQualifier
One of either Scotland or the Netherlands will qualify for the 2023 World Cup ahead of three full members.
Thereafter, neither side will have any scheduled ODIs against full member opposition for the coming four year cycle. None.
#CWCQualifier
Of the ICC's 34 European members, only four have never won a T20I against another European team: Estonia, Slovenia, Turkey and England...

The Cricketer understands that the ICC plans to stage meetings in November to discuss the future of 50-over cricket, with several members concerned about falling spectator numbers both at the grounds and on television |
@GeorgeDobell1
I know it's bait, but I can't let it slide.
It says 15% you insufferable dolt. That is literally the chance that at any given moment it is fucking Tuesday.
Fair to say this Netherlands team has won themselves a lot of new fans both at home and abroad over the course of this World Cup, but it's hard to capitalise on such hard-earned popularity if none of your new admirers know when your next match is going to be.
#CWC2023
Genuinely not even close. The gap between full members and Associates is a fraction of what it was five years ago, much less fifteen.
The USA had won 3 of their last 6 T20Is against full members before today.
An upset, sure, but only a shock if you've not been paying attention.
There's probably a lot of people watching cricket for the first time today. I imagine one of their first questions will be "why do the commentators all sound like they're delivering a eulogy?"
Seeing this take a lot. It's incredibly dumb for so very many reasons.
The most glaring one of course is the premise that players take no pride in representing the West Indies, but it also betrays a remarkable breadth of ignorance on a remarkable range of subjects. (1/lots)
The cricket concept that is the West Indies needs to be abolished and all those island countries - Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua, Guayana, Trinidad etc - should be given associate memberships. They may then play for pride and who knows one or two may actually bounce back on the
Cricket Australia taking a stand (however convenient) on women's cricket in Afghanistan is not mixing cricket and politics. Women's cricket is literally cricket.
Zimbabwe cricket is fine, and still headed in the right direction. Failure to qualify will be gut-wrenching, especially in front of a home crowd, and with several players that will likely not see another WC.
But it is the World Cup's loss that they won't be there.
Congrats to Chis Morris, Mohammad Kaif and Sreesanth for being the only "experts" here to pick a combination of semi-finalists that is actually possible.
#T20WC2024
What's been so admirable about the Dutch approach so far this tourney is the willingness to risk heavy defeats for a chance at a win. At 112-6 very easy to play for an honourable defeat...
The idea that a team of pro athletes are somehow disrespected or put out because they help chuck some bags in a van is one of the weirdest yet most persistent takes on this site. You think these guys have caddies at training or something? They lug this stuff around constantly.
Just a reminder that in a sane world these games would be happening at the World Cup rather than the Qualifier, and they would doubtless be among the best games of the tournament.

No jokes, this is exclusive to WillowTV in the US. Nobody there is watching that wasn't already a cricket fan. Meanwhile MLB is getting free advertising to the whole subcontinent.
Absolute monster win for baseball again.
If I'm Zimbabwe Cricket right now, I'd be enquiring as to how it is that Zimbabwe missed the T20 Qualifier due to being suspended over govt interference, but Afghanistan just booted their CEO at the behest of the new crowd and are still set to play the T20 World Cup.
The guy's a national champion in three different sports. Picked up cricket cuz his kid got into it. Now he's putting time into the game for free. Pavel Florin is exactly what cricket needs. Does more for the game than 99% of the people making a living off ot.
I’ve seen cricket pros like Mark Taylor and Mohammad Ashraful bowl balls that bounced twice but sure take the piss out of a Romanian amateur who wants to help the game grow and once drove 500km overnight to play a game just because he loves it
This would have been one of the finest individual ODI performances of all time even if Bas de Leede hadn’t bowled a ball. He took five wickets.

Genuine conversation I had today:
"Sorry about the cricket, I heard it's not going so good"
"How do you mean?"
"Mama said she saw on the news that we lost?"
"Mate, if your Ma is hearing about it on the news, it's going pretty well."
A decade or two from now, when we've settled into our franchise-dominated future and the time comes to do the post-mortem on the "primacy" of International Cricket, it may be instructive to look back at this image.
It is taken from match that was not broadcast in either country.
Lot of talk about Dutch players missing ahead of this tournament, was true during most of the Super League too. I’m not convinced it hurt them. A testament to the value of building depth, building a culture, building a unit.

Teams shamelessly slow-rolling the over rate with rain inbound when ahead on DLS is just about my second favourite thing to watch in cricket, immediately after this exact tactic blowing up in the face of the team doing it.
#NEPvUAE
Nigeria beat Namibia with a last ball six to complete what I believe is, by ICC T20I rating, the greatest upset in the history of T20 Internationals.

Seems like as good a time as any to plug this ODI Super League revival idea again.
All tri-series.
Light schedule.
Avoids the IND-PAK issue.
Could even fix the Champion's Trophy pointlessness problem.
Hypothetical groups/fixtures here, obvs could be fiddled with.
Feel like everyone's been very impressed with the Dutch at this World Cup with the glaring exception of the Dutch themselves and all their fans. They've genuinely been playing below their own standards for most if not all of the tournament, just shown impressive grit at times.
Scotland have played against 7 Full Members in the last 2 years in white ball cricket; Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Afghanistan, West Indies, Pakistan and England. They have beaten every single one bar Pakistan and West Indies, and they only lost to the Windies because of this.
Huge win for Zimbabwe. Suddenly hard to see them missing the top four in the group, semi-final run a real possibility.
Also good news for Namibia, Uganda, Kenya, whose chances of 2024 Qualification just improved appreciably.
Bad news for Europe or potentially Asia.
#T20WorldCup
Genuine privilege to have been able to watch Dipendra Singh Airee smoke the six that made Nepal an ODI nation earlier today. And a shame I was one of only about 30 people to have seen it, when 30 million were desperate to watch.
#CWCQ
Cricket's 4,000th ODI will be played on Saturday between PNG and Hong Kong. It will be the last either team play for at least four years.
At the same time the Netherlands and Nepal, the WCL Champion and the world's newest ODI nation, will play at Kwekwe. The game will be List A.
The moment Sandeep Lamichhane takes his 100th ODI wicket, Adeel Shafique the victim. 2225 deliveries in 42 matches it's taken him, 2 games quicker than Rashid Khan.

Please take a moment to think of those that have known for ages that the USA vs Canada was the oldest fixture in sport, who today will finally see the value of that, perhaps their favourite bit of trivia, fall to zero.
#USAvCAN
No question Zimbabwe are in something of a slump at the minute, but the fact that the Africa T20 QUalifier table looks like this right now is not (or at least not only) indicative of a Zimbabwe side in decline.
Magic moment on the feed, at the exact time AB de Villiers was hitting that 162, the Netherlands were in Windhoek at World Cricket League Division 2 losing to Nepal.
#NEDvSA
The first ever international cricket match was played in New York in 1844, and it doesn't look like they've done much work on the square since to be honest.
#T20WC24
Kudos to Raja here for somehow contriving to levy criticism of the
#IREvPAK
series broadcast that's massively more offensive than the standard of coverage itself.
An absolutely brutal reintroduction to Associates cricket for the Netherlands today at Kathmandu, but best not to fall into the "last game we watched" opinion trap. Nepal were entirely on for this game, and the Dutch are still a better side than they showed today.
#CWCL2
Spare a though for Namibia now, who presumably have been watching this game screaming at their tvs throughout, and now have to go through the playoff thanks to the UAE accidentally running down the wrong clock.

get recognised because he's like super famous here
14/10 very good Nepal.
Nepal will make their ODI debut against the Netherlands. They will play two ODIs in the Netherlands on the 1st and 3rd of August, immediately after the T20 tri-series with the MCC at Lord's. Venue(s) TBC.
England, once again, fail to beat a European side in a T20I*. Their total win count in European completion remains zero - the very worst of all 34 ICC Europe members.

*(That's IT20 for out English readers)
You might say that CAN's decision to continue selecting Lamichhane while he was out on bail looks very bad in hindsight, but it's worth remembering that it looked very bad at the time too.
So with the Netherlands securing direct qualification, this is how Regional Qualifying for the 2024
#T20WorldCup
shakes out.
IND, NZ, ENG, PAK, AUS, SL, SA and NED qualify on standings, AFG and BAN on ranking, WI and USA as hosts.
HEY EVERYONE ATTENTION PLEASE!
The Netherlands have not yet secured direct qualification for the 2024 World Cup.
They still need Pakistan to win against Bangladesh (or get trounced by like 160 runs) and India to beat Zimbabwe (or no result).
Thanks for your time.
#T20Iworldcup
Quick survey of the Dutch press, genuinely taken aback to report that all* five of the national newspapers are in fact carrying cricket content.
*not counting the Financieele Dagblad (no sport section), Nederlands Dagblad (Calvinist) or the Reformatorisch Dagblad (Calvinister).
Ireland have been genuinely impressive this World Cup, for the practically first time in T20s really look like they're on an upward trajectory. Nonetheless they're dumped into regional qualifying for 2024, and unless the Dutch somehow beat SA, the Euro Qualifier will be brutal.
Uganda are a win over Rwanda away from qualifying for the T20 World Cup.
Uganda have played Rwanda a quite remarkable 16 times in the last couple of years, and won every game. Only one was even close.
Barring a miracle Zimbabwe will be missing another men's World Cup.
Everybody out here shouting about Afghanistan beating England being 'the biggest upset of all time' really telling on yourselves. Seriously you might as well just stamp 'I don't actually watch much cricket' on your forehead.
So obvs not ideal only announcing it now, and it's still a silly way of doing qualification, but the decision to make finishing top 8 mean something does fix a lot of the dead rubber problem at this WC.
