Local serial NIMBY has managed to object to the licence for & reduce the opening hours of a new bar right next to my office from 00:30 to 23:00 close. What a joke. Nearest residency is 30m away. Nightlife is destroyed to cater to a handful who *choose to live in central london*
I know this is not the best of times for everyone but I'm incredibly overwhelmed to say that I will be graduating (well, on paper) WITH A FIRST FROM CAMBRIDGE. Having received a 2:2 last year, this was so so unanticipated and I am OVERJOYED with this. High first in my Diss too!
It seems it is Steve Darling's long term assistant, Jennie, who has recently been promoted as the MP for Torbay's first parliamentary staffer. Great stuff.
The party that *checks notes*... repealed section 28, legalised same sex marriage and refuse to throw LGBTQ rights under a bus whilst hiding behind a facade of religious tolerance.
Maybe I should've still been checking my University email... but this is a pretty cool finale to that chapter of my life.

The look on my face when I've finished the bloody thing they have the gall to charge me £25 to share it with my employer: Priceless 💀💀
Only taken me 18 months to get a proper corporate headshot sorted. Given the quickly disappearing hairline, I might be keeping this one for a while...

It literally took me 2 mins to check: Lib Dems did not support this mine.
The meeting minutes show the local Lib Dem MP arguing against it, and the Lib Dem chair of the committee not voting to support the motion.
The committee is 8 conservative, 6 labour, and only 3 Lib Dem.
It was the Labour Lib Dem Council that first approved the mine that was allowed to go ahead by the Conservative government. Whilst I’m glad it is being reconsidered it just goes to show that the other parties can’t be trusted to resolve the climate emergency.
Fair play to Labour on BBC saying the only real solution to pay disputes and cost of living is economics growth. Atleast the cogs are slowly beginning to whir in Westminster.
Felt a little bit lost without my Christmas Park Run, so many apologies to the dozen Londoners I panted ‘Merry Christmas’ to this morning as I ran past.
*Huge personal news*: I am employed. I actually got the job I wanted at the firm I wanted. Amazed to have something to celebrate this Xmas. Start in Sept. Cannot wait to graduate.

Caving in to peer pressure as ever, here is a few pictures detailing the *long* process and outcome. I am aware I look like I've just walked offset of Peaky Blinders.
Made the horrific decision this morning to cut my hair. I have a pair of kitchen scissors and body hair shaver, which has a total charge time of 15 minutes. Progress is slow and I fear for the final outcome. Pray for me.
Cambridge Half Marathon 2020: New PB of 1 hr 39 mins 57 secs(!!!), first ever time I've ran sub 1:40 & over 4 minutes faster than my previous PB.
Turns out I might've been a bit keen off the start!

HS2 is expensive, destructive and won't be carbon neutral for at least another thirty years.
Cancel this project and invest in a local transport revolution!

✅ Increasingly divisive rhetoric that fuels an unjustified fear and makes climate change a toxic political issue, thus denying the coalition of voters needed to address it from forming
A lot of pearl clutching from some Tories about Hancock going to Australia for a jolly, as if Johnson wasn’t also having a jolly in the Caribbean during a parliamentary sitting.
Officer David Danielson was conducting a routine patrol when the accident happened.
Police said Danielson immediately called for medical treatment for the child, who was taken to hospital after sustaining injuries to his right foot and lower leg.
Wait? Is a politician allowed to admit they were wrong on an issue, apologise and not shout at the interviewer? Here's me thinking leadership meant refusing to apologise for your actions or refusing to be interviewed in the first place...

As if Christmas couldn’t get any worse, I have managed to purchase a 20cl bottle of whisky instead of 70cl. I’m asking to remain in your thoughts during these trying times.
Finally joined the LGBT+ network at work, unsure why I was reluctant to until now. The chairman was so welcoming, taking me for a coffee to tell me about the network/where I can fit in. Coupled with the volunteering and some mentorship yesterday, feeling proud of my firm today 🥹
"...this is a moment where you have to pick a side. Either you can be on the side and stand with Hong Kong & the Joint Declaration or else you choose to stand with the Chinese Communist Party" 👏👏👏🥰
The United Kingdom is speaking with one voice in support of Hong Kong today. We cannot abandon Hongkongers who are struggling for their freedom, many of whom did not have the chance to take a BNO passport during the Handover. Now is the time to live up to our values.
This is a load of crap. Some basic journalism skills would be helpful.
It's CUSU not Cambridge Union
They banned firearms & tried to ban military "fronts" not ban military
CUOTC etc. are a force for improving their student's mental health & an access hour is a reasonable request
In the three weeks since I've left Cambridge, I have run approximately 205km in total. I'm pretty chuffed with that. This is the time to focus on the small victories.
Me, 31/12/2009: Heading into my final 6 months of primary school and the 11+'s.
Me, 31/12/2019: Contract signed on ideal job, have my final 6 months till graduation from University of Cambridge.
This is the decade that made me. Some real lows but got to finish on a high.

No gender neutral loos here.... Just arrived at Tory leadership candidate Kemi Badenoch's launch event where makeshift signs have been added to toilet doors to say "Men" and "Ladies"
My fave three:
👏Ensure PrEP for HIV prevention is fully available.
👏Complete reform of the Gender Recognition Act to recognise non-binary gender identities.
👏Immediately halt the use of facial recognition surveillance by the police.
Train strike days make drivers insane. What is it about strike days in London that just makes everyone act so dangerously? Had a car pull a uturn from stationary in traffic and knock me off my bike. Idiots. Absolute criminals.
Bars previously in nearby units failed as a result of closing too early for evening business traffic. They even have the cheek to use these examples of how the longer hours are excessive!
All bars in the area are at max capacity at peak times (venues far closer to residents).
Gibraltar really is just one of those Civ 5 cities you establish on two tiles in the ocean on turn 150 just for a single resource or to launch an assault on a far off enemy.
Called my parents and I swear the only thing they were bothered about was ‘should we cancel the turkey’ - don’t worry y’know just me contemplating Xmas ALONE 😅😭
Just want to say a big Fuck You to the cab that pulled out on me cycling past and then sped off. Entitled pansies think they own the roads and aren’t subject to the basic rules every other user is. No lasting damage likely, this time at least.
Over the last year of living in London I have formed a reliance on google maps, and by extension created a bad habit of taking the quickest route to my destination. I need to relearn looking up from my phone, slower routes and exploring some of the hidden paths of the city.
The quiet from the media/Westminster on the build up to the by-election sort of speaks for itself as to how much communities such as West Lancs get a say in national politics under FPTP.
Scientists at Oxford are rewriting the rules for how quickly a vaccine can be developed, and in doing so helping Britain win the race to develop a vaccine
Will(s?) of the People

⛔️Only way to solve is w/ a ref of no deal vs. Revoke. GE won’t solve as FPTP isn’t representative.⛔️
I find missing someone is actually a comforting emotion, and probably net positive when combined with the excitement of the lead up to seeing them again.
Christmas Twitter does deliver. I didn’t think ‘clubbed a fox to death in my kimono’ could be topped but ‘getting bullied by a teenager online so badly you get arrested’ is too good.
Find me a single person who wouldn’t travel by Chinook given the opportunity and where the expense is picked up by someone else. This is the most rational decision Braverman has made whilst in office.
Suella Braverman travelled by Chinook helicopter on her way to the Manston asylum processing centre this afternoon.
She was in Dover before that, so about 20 miles away.
It is unclear why the Chinook was used.
Hi
@TheGreenParty
,
Do you trust this government to spend £80-100bn on a new project that will specifically reduce our dependency on cars/internal flights?
You don't trust them and do care about the LT sustainability of the country? STOP CAMPAIGNING AGAINST HS2
Signed,

Hello from a wet and windy Wales!
Currently doing a trek from the south of Snowdonia National park (Machynlleth) to the north (Conwy). Here’s a photo spam from whenever the rain subsided enough for me to use my phone. (Day 1: Machynlleth)
"I'm not a class traitor, but I do feel class guilt"- I wrote a piece for Varsity about class guilt, a feeling I haven't been able to shake in my time in Cambridge. Quite personal (and as apolitical as I get 😜).
Some of you have an unhealthy relationship with google software, whereas I, the high intellectual, simply have all my important info stored in an increasingly precarious pile of scribbled notes on my desk.

Ecstatic to say the least.
