If Mets are going to try to get Juan Soto to sign with them, sweeping four games from Yankees — and pretty much annihilating them in 3 of those 4 games — couldn’t possibly have hurt Beyond that and much more importantly, very hard to argue Yankees’ future is brighter than Mets’

Mets needed another high-leverage reliever before Edwin Díaz got hurt. Didn’t get it They needed a legitimate DH with power. Didn’t get it They needed a more well-rounded bench. Didn’t build one Most importantly, they needed a better rotation. Didn’t build that, either

Kodai Senga, adjusting to a new country, league, ball, and schedule, has done this in first 16 MLB starts: 3.31 ERA 1.28 WHIP 89.2 IP 68 H 113 K’s (11.3 per 9) *Ghost fork is one of best pitches in baseball *FB reaches 99 mph *Just 4 pitchers in MLB have a better K rate 👻🍴

If I’m Mets and Tarik Skubal really is available, that’s the one player I’d be willing to trade serious assets for It’s not about this season. That’s a play for 2025 and 2026, when Skubal will be under team control for relative peanuts Whatever happens in 2024 would be gravy

Should be noted again that Mets absolutely botched the trade deadline They didn’t add the offense they needed They didn’t add the bullpen help they needed It was a clear as day misfire at the time and looks even more brutal in retrospect Front office didn’t do its job
