Here's a long story. In March 2013, I’d just got back from taking the train to Rosario for the Miss Argentina Pageant when Josefina told me she wanted to have a baby. “Quiero un pibe” were her exact words, which is a weird way of saying it, but she’s country folk, so OK.

Articles about Buenos Aires often suggest that the high percentage of psychologists per capita is because the people are crazier than elsewhere, but there's a high percentage of bidets per capita but that doesn't mean the arses are dirtier than elsewhere, you know what I mean?

Saying this as someone who lived in Argentina for 22 years: it is quite amazing how nothing works in the UK. HMRC, NHS, airports, contractors. Hours on the phone. Hours queueing. This used to be better.

Then on 8 March, the 16th anniversary of when we met, Josefina did a pregnancy test because she thought she was menopausal (she’s very old). She isn’t menopausal. She’s pregnant. We’re having a baby girl in November. THE END.

Re- Salt Bae bollocks: If you want a £630 pound steak, you can get a return flight to Buenos Aires for £500, then it's about £25 for the top-end steak, but you can probably find a decent one for £5 or less. This is my public service announcement.

Happy Thursday from here in Argentina, where yesterday was a bank holiday so today kind of feels like Monday? but also kind of feels like Friday is just around the corner? Pretty wild. Also I had a Clonoazepam last night and slept 8 hours. Today is the happiest day of my life.

Every year I force Josefina to accompany me to Liebig, 50km north of here, to have our annual family photo taken next to the corned beef monument. We weren't able to do this in 2020, but there's an outside chance travel restrictions will be lifted just in time. Pray for Liebig.

"El monte" is a tricky word to translate into English. It isn't always "the woods/forest". It certainly isn't a mountain. It's the bush, but that sounds too Australian. Forget outback. The countryside is too bucolic. The thicket, odd. The wilds?
