And here's our reloading animations! It's all done one at a time, and I even decided to make sure the number of used casings drop out when we reload. Next I'll just need to brush up the crouching reload, and also make one for being prone.

Oki-doki! After taking waaay too long to get this one done- it's done. The worst part about it is I don't even know how I feel about it yet. I'm just happy it got done. For some reason this particular death scene was a pain in the ass to come up with. On to the next thing now!

Tonight I finished all the deaths for the giant twin gears! I just went ahead and made a quick clip showing them all back to back. So next up will be the giant door we jump through to get into this area!

Alright, so here's the interior of this little nightmare section for the school! Real short, real simple. I may end up adding parts of the school to the house when it starts changing later on too. A sort of "past coming back to haunt you" sort of thing.

The progress for tonight! I need to figure out what's up with the lighting when she's reaching for the head. I think she's passing into a static lighting sample node from one of the surrounding candles. Anyway, first draft. I'll be back to smooth this over more tonight!

Added a nice little effect so we can feel the power of those giant fans the closer we get to them. It's just a little screen shake, but I think it adds a lot to the feeling of being near them.

Just got the first half of the back hit death scene for the Burden made! The part that comes next is where things get wild! This isn't bad for just a few hours tonight, so I'm hoping tomorrow night will be it for this one. Then we can move onward into the story!

Death scene numbah one for the Burden! I've never tried twisting an entire face off before. That made for a neat little challenge, especially since I had to do it in the confines of a game engine. I've already got a plan for the back-facing one, so that will begin soon!

Bad End: The mandatory stupid horror protagonist trope. "No don't go check it out! What are you doing?!" Not even 2 minutes into the game and already got killed. If it seems like a bad idea... It probably is!

I've redone the sneaking animations! I've always found the classic "duck walk" we see in video games to be pretty hilarious. Like, seriously, why we gotta be weird about it? It's probably louder to try to move around that way than just walking lightly like a normal person.

Now we have the ability to blend with our bloody environments by not only covering ourselves in gore, but by also playing dead! And if we do so after using a gore item, our blend% gets a greater boost. Just one more tool to use when trying to evade hostiles!

Alrighty, so now our mannequin has both, a muscular system, and a skeletal system! We get to grind this baby down to the bone. Just wait til we get a shotgun! So this is the head done, next I'll have to do the rest of the body.

Just added the ability to round corners while we're in cover! It looks silly at the moment because I haven't given it an animation yet, but the movement is all set up and bug free! I also will add a little arrow icon indicating when you can round the corners too.

Still need to add some blood and brains sticking to the walls here, but this little part is mostly done now! A good chunk of the night was used getting his gore model set up. I'm hoping tomorrow night should be just about time to wrap this scene up finally!

Got a new way to deal with monsters. Explosive barrels! Every game with guns needs them. And to go with the explosives, the environment is also destructible! Next I need to find a more elegant way to dispose of the debris, and also add some destruction decals to the walls/floors.

Skin tearing action: check! Next up I'll need to get the underlying tendons set up so they can do their floppy business when the top half of her head is pulled off. After that I'm pretty much home free, as far as crazy effects go!

I've finally got a system set up where we can not only render blood and wounds on the characters, but we can also carry those effects over seamlessly to different costumes, or even entirely separate models used for death scenes or just regular cutscenes!

I got a new physics system, so i decided to test it out with Lily's unlockable alternate long hair style. I tested it outside in the wind, and then with one of the spike death scenes here. It's pretty good! You'll also notice she has black hair now, to better resemble her mom.

I completely re did the "look at" mechanics. Now, Lily will always look towards where the camera is pointed when moving. I'm using an aim offset to make her shift her weight when looking back over her shoulders too. Figured this would make her feel a little less robotic.

So I just beat Parasite Eve 2 (again) and I've been thinking.. Where's our Parasite Eve remakes at? I know, I know, about the rights issues and all that. After I finish HoV and GP, I think I may want to do a "spiritual successor" (don't sue me) of my own! Cuz I love those games!

Enemies can be gibbed/partially dismembered depending on their distance from the blast radius, and Lily will now also react to standing relatively close to an explosion! Next I need to takes some steps backward and start playing catch up on some cutscenes leading up to here.

Now all the standing cover functionalities are made, including shooting from cover! There will be crouching cover mechanics as well, but they will likely be handled a bit differently. For now, though, this works! Time to get back to the study and start adding the last touches!

This was a pretty fun first for me to build! The saw is going to be like a little mini game where we control Lily's forward and backward movement with the mouse. Next I'm going to make it so the blade tries to pull us in once we hit it, and we'll have to try to keep her balanced.

Got all of Lily new assets for this part into the engine and also got the start of the classroom made! I'm also using a new post process effect for this area too. I think it makes the details really pop!

That scene with the monster is finally done! So the next thing to do is set it up with some AI, because after all that it just sort of stands there making faces at us... And does nothing. I also need to optimize its materials. I'm losing about 15 fps with the screen recorder on.

Got the first of the giant fan deaths done tonight! I'll need another for if the player jumps into it, one for if they are crouched when they run into it, and then another for if they try to stand up while prone under it. I'll be getting back to it on either Monday or Tuesday!

Our weapons now have a chance at critical shots! And of course we can still crit the dead- you can never be too careful! This mannequin knew what was coming at the end. It was waving bye-bye! Also used a different costume for this one. Just cuz.

Back to work! Since I've just gotten started, i figured I'd point out a fun little detail. When Lily opens her mouth up real wide, we can actually see the tendons in her neck begin to stress and pop out! I thought it would be a cool extra something to add to the scenes.

Looks like tonight I'll be getting to the fun material work to make it look like the head is being pulled apart! Gonna have to make the skin on the cheeks shred away and then have the tendons and meat underneath stretch and flop around after they break apart. No problem!

Now we got working explosives! Next I want to set the possibility of delimbing in the explosions. I'll probably do it based on distance from the explosion. I'll probably also judge the sizes of the damage decals on the distance as well.

Woo! I'm finally getting to dynamically render wounds on enemies! Where the animation cuts off, we can see the results of the shots Lily fired. These are actually in-game effects, so we'll be able to do this while playing the game too. Tomorrow night comes the fun part!

After a week of being crazy sick, I am back to work! I don't know what it was, but it sucked. So back on track! We got Lily's Mama here! She was never seen in the original, but the whole family will be important in the remake.

Now the longer the cage is on the saw, the more it will heat up! It also has a pull when we're on it. I have the debugger on so we can see the multiplier for the cage's glow. Once it hits 50, the mini-game is complete! It will also cool itself back down if we back off the blade.

During my whacky quest to make a wet skin material for the next cutscene, I came across a very handy plugin that uses vertex coloring! Then I found out I can do this to meshes! So you know I will be attempting to combine this with the already existing gore system... So cool!!

Here comes the stage for our next death scene! Actually, series of death scenes. We'll need one for front and back facing, and then another set for if you hit the electric field in the doorway. That'll blast us back into the trap as well. Again, one for forward facing and back.

Came up with a new design for some promotional art here. I combined some AI along with my own work to make this! I know how a lot of people feel about AI, but I think it can look really cool, especially when used to supplement a work. I'm calling this one "The Artist's Desire."

For the past few days the only thing I've been working on is lighting. I needed to get to the bottom of why the Study area was lagging out so bad, and it turned out to be the lights I was using. So I've been redoing all the lighting for the house. It's gotten better though!

At first we couldn't move while aiming, but I decided I didn't want to go THAT classic. So now we can walk while aiming, and still dodge. The level 1 aiming is very slow at a distance, so it's better to stay closer if we want to zero in faster. But it's also more dangerous too!

I don't typically like ragdolls, as they can come off as lazy and sloppy, so I'm blending them with animations for a more natural look on death. And I know how much we all like to whittle our enemies to a bloody pulp, so I'm letting us keep damaging the bodies even after death!

I created a new default costume for Lily because I felt like the last one was so dark that half the time you couldn't even see the character. And I also decided to keep the various concepts I tried out as alt costumes to unlock! So here's all the costumes!

I got preeety close to finishing this one tonight. One more good night of work should do it though! And after this one is done, we'll be getting into yet another bigger cutscene that introduces the game's newest mechanics and story element!

Got a little video here just messing around with the AI. I've discovered a couple new bugs, and I'll need to find out why Lily clipped into one of the cribs at one point, but so far so good! It could definitely be worse considering it was just made.

Progress! I decided I'm going to make Victor's entrance an actual cutscene this time, instead of the sort of in-game cutscene it was in the original. I can do a lot more with the characters now, so i think this will be way better.

I improved the morph targets on the long hair model to make it flow better and look a bit more strandy. And I also updated the top portion of the dress because the original one was bugging me. Now it has these ribbons that run off the new physics!

Unexpected Monday morning post! Tonight I've been really trying to capture that "I just saw something really fucked up" look for Lily's reaction here. I'm pretty happy with the result! And context for the end is she hears the lobby door open outside. Bet it aint the police!

So after the last cutscene I showed, there will be one more I have to make where Lily has a small mental trip. After that one ends, this is what comes next! In the room coming up we'll finally get our first gun too! I'll likely be getting to the scene mentioned this week.
