Several things wrong with this. 1. It is discriminatory. 2. Having the authority to teach a class doesn’t give you the authority to compel students to participate in a political protest as a condition of participating in the class or receiving a grade. This is a big abuse.

Many economists keep retweeting graphs from the Economist on the decline in competition in the US. Yet, I have not seen a single graph showing data related to consumer welfare. Surprising that economists would announce the death of competition without looking at price data.

Many French commentators discuss yesterday’s events as some form of American idiosyncrasy. This is misguided. We already had a similar type of event - when the gilets jaunes called to march on presidential palace and rampaged the Arc de Triomphe. And more will come.
