In memory of @MartinRavallion , who just passed away, let me share a 2010 paper of his: "Do Poorer Countries Have Less Capacity for Redistribution?". He shows that 37 low-income countries don't have the resources to alleviate stark poverty (even) by expropriating the non-poor.

Actually, I don't recommend reading Ravallion (2010) paper but a 2022 update by @kbbolch , Ceriani & @ @LFLopezCalva . With new data, they find that 62 countries cannot redistribute their way out of stark poverty - more than in Ravallion (2010)!

On our work with @TDouenne : Fairness and credibility of the climate mitigation plan are key. It also shows how misperceptions and rejection of carbon taxation are sensitive to the context. Rejection was very high during the Yellow Vests movement, it has greatly reduced since.

Pourquoi le Vélib' est catastrophique depuis 2018 ? Car Smovengo, qui a gagné le marché public de 15 ans (jusqu'en 2032) a proposé un prix trop bas : 400M vs. 600M pour JCDecaux. Clairement, c'est JCDecaux qui avait bien estimé le coût du cahier des charges.

4 contrôleurs SAVM passent leur journée à tester les Vélib': Seuls 10% (sic) des vélos sont "effectivement disponibles", i.e. sans défaut. C'est calamiteux. Il y a plus de soucis sur les Vélos à Assistance Électrique (raison pour laquelle ils affichent plus de courses par vélo?).

The most frequent argument against the wealth tax is that it makes the wealthiest migrate. A 1pp increase in the tax makes 2% of millionaires migrate in the long run. This migration reduces GDP by 0.1% and employment by 0.03%, much less than what can be funded with the revenues.

New study on Sweden's wealth tax: 1/3 of wealthy out-migration flows were caused by the wealth tax, but it didn't hurt total tax revenues or the country's economy much. Migration responses to the wealth tax are much too small to make the repeal of the tax pay for itself!

Quand la température du bulbe mouillé (un concept de température ressentie tenant compte de l'humidité) dépasse 35°C, le corps ne peut plus évacuer la chaleur par transpiration, et les mammifères exposés meurent en 6 heures. Une telle température n'était jamais arrivée jusqu'ici.

Taux de Laffer pour les plus hauts revenus proche de 100% quand on inclue la CSG et les cotisations. Ça conforte qu'il faut du trial and error : augmenter année peu à peu la progressivité et raffiner notre compréhension des réponses comportementales, jusqu'au sweet spot.
