So this happened today!!!!!!
OISE Faculty Appointments 2021/22
I am very pleased to announce that six of our 2021-22 faculty searches have successfully concluded and that six exceptional individuals will soon be joining OISE or returning to OISE in continuing faculty positions.
What are your plans for building your own capacity in Equity?
I mean after the workshop is over.
I mean when no one is looking.
I mean when the action is not connected to some personal gain.
I mean when _______.
I never get tired of seeing the amazing little things happening in schools that are actually a MAJOR part of creating healthy school culture and climate - one where students honestly feel a sense of belonging.

It is hard to explain to those who do not know my journey what this means to me – IT MEANS A WHOLE LOT! As a Black, gay, immigrant who is bold and brave and walks into his fullness, I have had to constantly navigate this world to BECOME! (full post-FB, IG and LinkedIn, check it.
What would it be like if all our students were given the space, grace, love , empathy, kindness and care to

in all their identities? What if they never had to

school but
#thrive
because they were treated with the dignity they deserve?

🎼 All of my good days outweigh my bad days and I won’t complain🎼
🎼Morning by morning new mercies I see.🎼
Today As I reflect in preparation for my work I am reminded that resistance is heavy work.
Resistance is brave work.
Resistance is consequential work. Happy my ancestors did the work. There is work for me to do and I am mindful of how power reacts to this work in many spaces.
Good morning wonderful educators 👨🏾🏫 🧑🏫 👨🏾🏫 👩🏫 just a reminder that we are the one who will need fo create that space where our students and parents and communities feel safe to share and engage. The lack of trust for us is real. Build trust. Create spaces. Brave spaces.

Way too many of us are saying we are crippled by “fear” when doing the work on inclusion and equity and Anti- Black racism. Fear of what? There must be brave conversations about that fear.

Are we focus on a sticker or a star ⭐️ or are we building RELATIONSHIPS. Documents, frameworks, statements, policies and procedures, all have their place - but do not think for one minute they can replace the work you must do in building relationships.

Day # 6
Today as I engaged educators in a workshop on CRRP we talked about the power of
#identity
and
#representation
How are we ensuring our Black children see themselves in your curriculum/classroom/school? How are you saying through your work - I SEE YOU!
The only way we will mash down DEFICIT THINKING in classrooms is when we are READY to call out these systematic oppressive practices and UNLEARN so we can GROW!!!!
Which child is erased?
Which child is excluded?
Are you using the language of Hope?
Five years ago I posted this. I remember the morning and how I was reminded of my calling and passion.
SPEAK life.
LIVE life.
GIVE life.
DO life.
ENCOURAGE life.
Teaching is a higher calling.
What a PRIVILEGE it is to impact lives. Don’t ever forget that.
#blackboyjoy
The book is here. Got my copies today !!!
Thanks
#pembrokepublish
for the amazing work.
Nuff love Larry Swartz for the love care and passion you demonstrated for this work.
Dear Daddy- keep telling the taxi man dem - a your bwoy dis! 😁( RIP)
Fly all the flags you wish and observe a million moments of silence if you wish. I really don’t care until we see ACTIONS. I am not here for the performances and your cute conversations. Let us start with TRUTHS. The ACCOUNTABILITY. And do the ACTIONS!!
Here doing some Saturday morning work - email comes in from publisher and my
#BLACKBOYJOY
just sings. I am wrapped up and emotional in gratefulness.
Classroom teachers and students - this is for you!!!!! Let us work together to make this world a better place.
This is why the work is important. This is happening is schools. Yesssss many many places. Trust and believe it. So we must remain fearless in the work. Not distracted by those who wish to hinder and scapegoat. Schools Boards continue to invest in the learning and actions.
When I said I am doing the most for 2022 I am doing the most. Just completed a podcast for 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🇯🇲 🇨🇦PRIDE TORONTO 🏳️⚧️🇨🇦🇯🇲🏳️🌈 in their Black Queer and Trans Excellence series with host Hollywood Jade.
I know it was a popdcast so I would not be seen but who cares - I SEE ME!
Before you rush to creating that “safe” space - maybe we should talk about a “ brave” space. You keep wondering why the space is not seen as safe? Ask yourself “safe for who?”
Yesterday I spent my day in a special program classroom. As I sat there engaging it came to me so strongly how often as educators we lower our expectations of certain students based on one factor. We live in a world of possibilities- there are many ways to be great
Our article is out!!!
“From Awareness to Action - Disrupting racism/anti-Black racism as educational leaders” Take a read in The Register - The magazine for Ontario’s public school principals and vice-principals. Check the link below for the article.
Stopping by to remind everyone doing the authentic heavy-lifting work of advocacy in WHATEVER area to remember to take breaks, breathe, relax and sign off.
You have to be well enough to do the work good enough. So be good to yourself. Take breaks.Refuel. Rewind. Unwind. 🖤

Today I share my love for dance. This is me back in 2000. Dance was also my safe space during one of the roughest times in my life. The arts is such an amazing part of our story and history. Do you support Black Arts?
We need more educational leaders with the MORAL COURAGE to do what they KNOW is right and ethical and equitable. They do - they just don’t do.
#seekingdoers
How are policies created?
Who benefits from certain policies?
Who is disenfranchised by certain policies?Who are the people around the table creating the policies?Do you have any idea how many policies have been created to deliberately exclude and discriminate and block?
I see you looking 👀 for the quick fix 🛠. Let me say this with all the love and care I have for you.
Change is work.
Disrupt is work.
Advocacy is work.
I wish haste for you to you arrive at the realization that
#intentional
change will take
#work
and
#effort
.
I have been focusing a lot on the Culturally Responsive Educator- the doer - the impactor - the

- the

to the classroom dynamics. The one with more power and influence than we play up.
When you create that suggestion box to get feedback from the community, parents, staff, or students, be sure to provide update on the actions. Don’t allow spiders to make their home in box.

Love doing this work. Engaging PRIDE TORONTO in this conversation was important for me as someone who identifies as gay 🏳️🌈. Anti Black Racism shows up in some very peculiar ways within our community. We must work to disrupt R/ABR in all spaces. We do this by our actions.
Thanks Peel District School Board “DEAR BLACK GIRLS” Organizing Committee!!!!
It was my pleasure to use my voice in this space. There is power in ensuring that our girls hear the voices of LOVE and AFFIRMATION and RESPECT from our MEN!!!!

“MAKE SPACE…”
( August 31, 2021)
Just completed a courageous keynote in a space with hundreds of educators. Of all the things I said today two words came out of me like a dynamite!! MAKE SPACE
Think of our students.
Think of the many differences.
MAKE SPACE.
Serving you the whole alphabet okkkurrrrr. There is just something about the minds and questions and fearlessness of early years classrooms. Today I am living my best life spending the day in kindergarten!!!!
You learn so much when you teach.
What a moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the honour, along with Lady Phyll , Pride 2022 international Grand Marshall, to introduce Spice!!!

This evening I am honoured to be the moderator for PWA event - “HOW I CELEBRATE MY BLACKNESS”
Talents and gifts are being shared.
This neck piece is an original from Ghana 🇬🇭 gifted to me by Canute Lawrence.
We have to learn as Black people how to be good at accepting what we deserve. The good. The amazing. The great. The excellent. The adulation. The applause. We have wired to NOT take what we deserve. TAKE IT. TAKE IT ALL. TAKE EVEN MORE.
#unapologetically
Leaders, we are looking TO YOU and AT YOU to demonstrate that leadership as a change agent. People are NOT accepting your usual checked boxes. The conversation is not going away. Equity DESERVING groups will continue to demand your leadership.

Many of us have super powers and we do not even know. This coming Friday I will be talking to a group of students about Inclusion in their school. I will focus on kindness as a super power. What is your super power?
I have been thinking a lot about the Moral Courage needed in educational leadership. That space within the hearts our leaders that should Be filled up with a genuine passion to see change and see the possibilities and know you have work to do. Check on your moral courage level.
NEW BOOK CHAPTER ALERT 🚨 👏🏿😁🙌🏿🙏🏿
