Top 30: Another amazing year for new music. Here is a list of new albums I really enjoyed listening to in 2023. None of these is "better" than the others. These (and all) artists are to be commended for creating and sharing their art. Please support the arts if you can.

“It is very hard for people to imagine that they could essentially be a lily pad for this virus hopping from person to person, but this is the absolute reality of the situation. Silent transmission events are fueling this pandemic.”

NEW: IU Health says it disagrees with the Indiana Medical Licensing Board’s decision that Dr. Caitlin Bernard violated patient privacy laws when telling The Indianapolis Star that she provided abortion care to a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio.

No: Despite claims from conservative news outlets, Black and BIPOC communities are not the most vaccine hesitant group. And they are not responsible for this summer covid surge.

Hey folks. Just here to say that I have seen the horrible outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection play out daily here at our hospital. I would not wish this virus on anyone and I hope that anyone who gets infected does not get ill. And that is an unqualified statement.

BREAKING: For the 2nd straight day, Tennessee sets a stunning new daily record for
#COVID19
cases among school-age children (ages 5-18).
1,850 in today's report, up from 1,495 the day before.
Previous high of 1,478 was on Dec. 15th.
It has NEVER been this bad. 1/

Dr. Fauci is a tremendous infectious disease expert & physician-scientist. Watching the President insult him (and other scientists) is really difficult & maddening.

BEST NEWS EVER: NIH selects Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases | National Institutes of Health (NIH)!!!
@DrJeanneM
This is despicable. Biomedical research, largely supported by the NIH, saves lives, improves lives, and sews the seeds for future impactful discoveries. We desperately need public investment in research. The major cut to NIAID is equal parts ignorant and insane.
Details of House-proposed cuts for 2024 fiscal yr:
NIH 6.2% ⬇️
Including:
NIGMS 2.6% ⬇️
NCI 2.9% ⬇️
NIAID 22.9% !!⬇️
Worried? Call/email your House rep to let them know! The Senate budget included 2.4% ⬆️ for NIH, far preferable.

BREAKING: Tennessee’s top medical licensing board just voted to delete a COVID-19 anti-misinformation policy from its website due to fears a GOP lawmaker would push to dissolve the entire board and replace all its members if it did not. Story to come.
I cannot in good conscience turn a blind eye to the countless allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election. On January 6, I will vote in favor of objecting to the certification of the electoral college results.

Where to begin? Top 2: spent $10K sequencing a contaminated culture and hosted a postdoc for 3 months doing work on special knockout mice that turned out to be wild type. I could go all day.
Proud of our ID Division. We spent today making care kits for persons experiencing homelessness this winter. Shout out to Nashville Blanket Project for donating blankets.
