Ray "Bubba" Sorensen's tribute to Steve McDermott; educator and artist who passed away last week. McDermott was Sorensen's first art teacher in school, and this drawing includes the logos of all of the area schools McDermott served.
As befitting the funeral of a life-long educator, Steve McDermott’s memorial service was filled with the lessons he taught throughout his life, not only as an educator, but as a father and friend.
There was a lot of nostalgia in the room Friday afternoon when 16 CCSD retirees were honored in the CCHS auditorium. But, the heavy dose of emotion was reserved for the their leader, retiring Superintendent Steve McDermott:
The life of Steve "Magic" McCann of Creston may have ended Wednesday, but the legacy of one of Iowa's all-time premier sports officials will live on for years to come. -
A highlight for the crowd in Creston was the Panthers’ 4x800-meter team winning a race known for the first time as the Steve McDermott Relay, named that because it was the late Creston Superintendent’s favorite race. Evans, Calvin, Morrison and Briley made up the race.

After 21 years, Brad Baker has resigned from his role as Creston Community School Middle School principal. He will finish out his contract with CCSD, which ends June 30.

Southwestern Community College sophomore Fane Sauvakacolo became the college’s first womens regional track and field champion Sunday and Monday, competing in the heptathlon portion of the regional meet hosted at Iowa Western Community College.

Scott Belger, former Creston all-state player and state champion coach at Southeast Polk, joins Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. His father, longtime Creston coach Vic Belger, was inducted 25 years ago. -
Emergency management said anyone who has travelled out of the State of Iowa during the past two weeks should self-isolate upon returning home. During the supervisors meeting today it has been disclosed that two individuals have been tested for COVID-19 and results are pending.

Panthers boys basketball closed its season 10-10 (5-5 in H10 Conference). On Sunday, they celebrated a season where they faced tremendous adversity. Coach Schafer said the season wouldn’t have happened without the cooperation of parents.
