HAPPENING NOW: Michael Haft is currently at Spring Valley, intimidating workers. He has told them they cannot wear union pins & will be writing them up. Now he’s in the cafe, putting pressure on our workers. Yes, This is illegal.

ACTION ITEM: ahead of our election July 16, we are asking customers and supporters to come into unionizing cafes & talk to our workers, express your support for Compass Coffee United!
Our election is July 16. Compass Coffee has proven they will do whatever they need to stop this from happening. Breaking the law, calling in favors from friends, adding customers and partnerships to their list of baristas in order to stop this union.More updates to follow.
All votes that were able to be counted yesterday were 100% union YES! Any challenged votes cannot be counted until they are settled in post-election hearings. The 101 challenged votes will be determined based on eligibility and employment status!
Compass Coffee has opened their exclusive anual trip to all employees, just in time to miss our union election. This is a blatant attempt to remove voters from participating in our election on July 16th. You can email Chas Newman about this trip at Chas

Compass Coffee United is sincerely grateful for the support and solidarity as we continue with our union effort. Our workers have communicated need for financial assistance due to severe hour cuts, we have set up a gofundme to help on a case-case basis.
Compass Coffee has the $ but will not pay a living wage! Workers are forced to tell customers “the tip is included in the price”, but that is false. When workers did recieve a raise, it was 25-50c, the only increase in wages for baristas since 2020.

This is just one of many new and soon to be open Cafes by

Instead of listening to their employees & directing resources to fix equipment, they recklessly expand for “real good profit”
We are so excited to announce the grand opening of

The best way to support Compass Coffee United is to continue to be vocal and engage your communities! If you are in the area, please go to Georgetown and tell Michael Haft No More Unionbusting! 1351 Wisconsin Ave, NW.
Our election is tomorrow! Vote for the workplace you want! Upper management continues to spread fear, please reach out if you are being pressured to vote! We fight for a

We have privately been dealing with an imitation account that has stolen our words, art, faces, & cause.

Our election is July 16th!! We encourage all Compass Coffee workers to participate and vote for a better work environment for all. To cafes + departments not currently petitioning, we have resources for you! This election is just the first step, we hope to include all workers.
If “cold brew season” really requires a 190% total increase in staff across the company, why are so many union supporters suddenly getting their hours reduced to as little as 4 hours?
Just to reiterate, Compass Coffee United has (1) Twitter

we do not DM. We are grateful that people are able to see through these fake accounts that are working to muddle the message.
We are nothing without each other and our community, so we ask that you help us in this time to take care of each other and call out the lack of care Compass Coffee continues to administer towards its workers.

solidarity across unions and industry! This fight is bigger than us, Michael Haft & co are using
@CompassCoffeeDC
to illegally union bust. This is disrespectful to all workers- it is our right to organize! Thank you all for continual support!
Most of the positive reviews posted for the new Compass Coffee in Admo have been left by friends and family of Michael Haft who were previously hired to pack the unit! The pressure is working! Keep leaving pro union reviews at all Compass Coffee locations!
Join us THIS SUNDAY to rally outside of Compass Coffee’s newest location, the former Wydown flagship cafe. Stand in solidarity with workers, demand Compass recognize our union and stop recklessly expanding!
Thank you, everyone for a very successful first rally! WE LOVE OUR CUSTOMERS! Let’s keep up the momentum @ Georgetown tomorrow, 10 am.

Thank you so much for the great turnout & high energy today! Let’s keep the pressure ON- they can’t ignore their customers! There’s another Real Good Rally tomorrow, 9am at 1703 H St NW. Let’s make it the biggest turnout yet, by the White House.

Stop by 1703 H St, 849 18th St, or Georgetown, 1351 Wisconsin Ave, and your chance to run into Michael is very high. It is unclear at this time if these and other union cafes will be moved into their own district, overseen by the legend himself.
Members of Jobs with Justice, Unite Here Local 23, & DC Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners delivered a letter + spoke to Jessica Hubbard, Events Manager + Georgetown manager & Sydney Eubanks, Marketing Director, urging them to stand with Compass Coffee United.
To workers experiencing retaliation, you are not alone! We have your back— fill out our Mutual Aid Request Form for access to funds.
Your continued support allows us to continue organizing and fighting back against the blatant disrespect Compass Coffee has for their employees!
We ❤️ serving real good coffee, yet Compass Coffee does not care to keep our equipment in good repair. As workers, we are then hyper scrutinized + reprimanded for equipment deteriorating. Compass Coffee, provide us the resources & maintenance to ensure quality coffee!
Despite Michael Haft recognizing workers’ right to wear union pins, he has continued to write people up for distributing them. He has also drastically cut hours, with some workers not scheduled at all.
Many, if not all, Compass Coffee cafes are run by employees forced to work in poor conditions that hinders the quality of coffee. Our equipment is not routinely fixed or maintained! We ask our supporters to talk to management + baristas at all Compass Coffee locations!
Multiple Compass Coffee, Bluestone Lane, and OCF Coffee stores are unionizing. Six Bluestone Lane and OCF Coffee stores in Philadelphia unionized, while seven Compass Coffee locations in Washington, D.C. filed for a union vote
Contract meetings will be every Tuesday, 6pm over zoom- open to all Compass Coffee employees! DM for the link & please include your cafe/location and position!
It’s officially been 1 week since going public! Thank you to everyone who has stood in solidarity with our campaign. Together, we are the future of Compass Coffee!

Why should customers avoid the mobile app? When you load money onto the app, it stays with Compass. Compass Coffee United cares about their customers and wants to ensure if Compass Coffee closes any cafes, a union busting technique, customers don’t lose money.
A group of Compass Coffee workers announced plans Friday to unionize more than a third of its stores, pressing the D.C.-based chain to end its no-tipping policy and improve benefits and working conditions.

This news is a slap in the face to our demands and continues to prove how much our struggle for recognition and better working conditions are interconnected with cafes across the city. We stand with Wydown United- NO CREW NO BREW!

Compass has made their stance clear: Pride is Profit.
“As a queer employee at Compass, I am especially disgusted at this news. We don’t get a living wage, good benefits, or safe cafes, and they’re catering to my community for more money.”
Action item! Send Michael Haft & Co a copy of the NLRA so they have a copy of the law they continue to break 🤝 link in bio to quickly send them emails!
While the NLRB handles our Unfair Labor Practices and Election Results, Compass Coffee has continued to union bust, hard. Pro union Workers hours have been slashed, or scheduled purposefully outside of their availability. Others are scheduled 7 days a week.
Jessica Hubbard, back as manager to the Georgetown cafe, has been leading this initiative and enforcing these illegal union busting techniques. Jess would love to hear from you at our unionizing Georgetown location! 1351 Wisconsin Ave NW Jessica.hubbard

Compass Coffee is almost ready to open a new cafe at 14th St. If that sounds familiar, it's because just weeks ago it was home to Wydown United. After getting their union election date, management closed doors + fired 30 employees. Now, Compass is renovating to open for Pride.
These issues have severely impacted unionizing cafes at Spring Valley and Georgetown, both of which were (mis)managed by Jessica Hubbard, previously Events Manager at Compass Coffee and now demoted to cafe manager.
Schedules are submitted late and changed last minute. When this inevitability messes with workers’ lives and schedules outside of work, we are told not coming in would be seen as our “resignation notice” Compass is purposefully driving employees to quit.
This is Compass Coffee:
A company that will prioritize expansion before providing resources to fix cafes already open; a company that’s hiring but rejects applications from Wydown baristas; a company that lives in contradictions to better exploit their workers & make more profit
From
@washingtonpost
, Michael Haft’s response sums it up:
“Employees also raised concerns about building and equipment maintenance, store temperatures and a lack of a human resources department. Haft said the company was not yet in a position to respond to specific concerns.”
Some workers have also been denied the ability to “swap shifts”; Compass Coffee management has denied workers’ ability to find resolution to a management-created problem.
