I’m so lucky to have my mother and father to look up to. Sports can do great things like bring people together and illuminate the best in people. Grateful that my dad was recognized in this way!
WOW!!!
Congratulations to Joe Mihalich ‘78, Special Assistant to the Head Coach, on being named one of four recipients of the Joe Lapchick Character Award! Mihalich will be honored today at a luncheon in New York!
We love you Joe!

College coaches, so many of you do an amazing job and don’t need my humble opinion. But… there is no better portal to recruit from than NEPSAC. Academic strength, talented rosters, incredible competition, night in night out. There should be a NEPSAC recruiter on every staff!
Today was a special day having great coaches come to campus.
@SethOnHoops
@btaylorhoops
and my father (no Twitter handle!) amassed a combined 1,003 victories as head coaches in their careers, not to mention countless life lessons as assistants. Lucky to have them.
Coaches - our facility at Avon Old Farms is nice. It is air conditioned, but not like the Milk House. You will be fine in shorts and a polo.
@NEPSAC
Showcase.
I never take it for granted when I walk towards the gym and hear a ball bouncing and see guys putting extra work in. Mornings, down time, evenings, weekends, whatever. Those are the times when a ball and a hoop brings peace to the soul!
Just played my 6-yr old in good old fashioned, driveway basketball. Hoodies, cold fingers, rosy cheeks…good for the soul! He kept score diligently and he won 61-58.

Been a heck of a few days! Thanks to all those at
@HartfordHawks
who were anticipating the arrival! Brendan can’t wait for his first game with you all!

Attention College Coaches:
We will have open gym on Thursday, September 9 at 4:30pm. We will also be playing every Wednesday at 4pm, and an additional day of the week, TBD.
I will send a full schedule in the coming days.
College coaches: our gym is air conditioned so you’ll be comfortable, but it’s not “Milk House” cold. A hoodie is overdoing it.
Also if you use the address 744 Old Farms Rd., it’ll bring you to the back access hill that leads to the gym. It’ll save you a trip through campus.
Everyone rebounded and made tough plays, but
@BenCsernak
won tonight’s GLASS CLEANER award with 13+ rebounds, and
@joelnash_
put his HARD HAT on defensively to make a difference!
Well, this feels great. We are back to in-person evals for college hoops. Gotta be at least 200 coaches from all levels here in Avon, Conn., for the
@NEPrepBB
showcase.
A huge thanks to
@avonoldfarms

There is no better place for high school students to get premium competition and maximum exposure. The

is the strongest preparatory basketball league in the country. Thanks for coming to

"I'm a Midwestern guy, grew up in Iowa. My dad was a high school coach there for 30 years so I'm from the Midwest and love being here. I ended up going Wesleyan, Division III. I wanted to play Division I my whole life. I wanted to be in the Division I tournament my whole life."
So many problems in 2020, but when things aren’t the best you need a partner the most, and boy that’s what I have. Six years ago I locked in the greatest partner of all, who is there for me ALWAYS. I’ll love August 30 and my beautiful loving wife forever!

Bringing energy to a
@HartfordMBB
practice with
@CoachGalUHart
is like bringing sand to the beach! Loved seeing the old stomping grounds. Proud to be part of that family!
To the faint hearted posts from people thanking schools they are leaving and entering the transfer portal, just a PSA that you are inherently not “always a _____”. You’re in fact choosing to be anything but that mascot.
Theis is 6’8 and Bam is 6’9. They’re centers in the NBA. Maybe not noteworthy to you, but I just think you don’t have to be a certain height to be good at what you do.
For the first half of the school year, before the season started, I had people ask me, “Who’s the kid that shoots in the gym every morning?” Then by the season they all knew what he’s about. Happy for
@joelnash_
!
6'7 stretch big, 4.0 GPA, 1280 SAT, 13ppg/7.6rpg, scores at three levels, four years of eligibility, very high character. Not many guys like this in the portal. Let's not overthink it.
Every few days, Avon Old Farms basketball looks for just the right word to break the huddle to set the tone for the week, game, or practice. Instead of “win” or “compete” or “hard work”, today we said all those things at once with one word: Kobe.
Kenneth Lofton, Jr. is 6’6 or 6’7. He did not change his game so he can be a shooting guard, he just keeps doing what he does best. He’s having a great rookie summer league in the NBA. Bottom line, young players should not try to be something they’re not. Be good at YOUR GAME!
I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.’
For the past two days I’ve been saying goodbye to basketball’s grandfather, Morgan Wootten. Basketball is not a sport, it’s a bond. I am beyond lucky to be in the family he created. I’ll never coach a day without thinking of the lessons he taught.
I’d like to recognize
@anthonyclayton0
for scoring his 1000th high school point today. Ace has put so much time and effort into his craft, and had grinded through a tough senior year, I’m happy for him to reach this plateau!
Ended the first semester on two wins. But what I’m most proud of is we were the first team on the ground for each loose ball. The Winged Beavers are starting to play FOR each other more than with each other.
6’1 Joel Nash ‘26 exploded in
@AOF_Basketball
home opening win! Shifty guard that breaks down defenders with ease! Finished with 19pts, 9rbs, and 3 asts 🚀 Coaches

high major talent
I’m happy we got a W today, but mainly with how we did it. We rebounded like a team, defended like a team, took team shots, and stayed poised down the stretch.

Kids, there was a time when Sunday night meant two prime ACC games. Maryland was playing Duke. Wake Forest had UNC on the ropes. Seniors were playing against seniors. It was all for top 10 spots. It was...amazing. I miss those days.
I was this kid’s age in a college basketball locker room too. To all the people who say college sports are about money or fame, I disagree and I’m sorry but you cannot convince me otherwise. (Or this kid, for that matter.)
“Coach, I want to do a post grad year.”
Oh yeah? Only say that if you’re the guy who will never let the gym be empty!
@BenCsernak
knows what I’m talking about!
Today, I woke up feeling absolutely thrilled. I am part of
@avonoldfarms
— the finest school community there is. I know it’s July but I can’t wait to get back in th gym!
#aspirando
#perseverando
Just an absolute gutsy win today against a tough
@spsmbb
team. We kept composure and we were at our best when our best was needed. Great TEAM game. Matt Mensia with 27p 18r, and Matt Brand/Kenny Soares combine for another 35p.
#aspirandoetperseverando
Not sure how else to put it: Toni made every game day better, practice better, film session better, team meal better, etc. Just high character and coachable guy who can really knock down shots. Congrats to him AND to
@MaristMBB
!
I’m thankful for
@ByJerrySullivan
, who has told many of my father’s stories for more than two decades. And thankful for much more, but certainly that.
"The winningest coach in Niagara basketball history has attacked his recovery the same way he did a season, taking every day as a chance to get a little better."

on Joe Mihalich, set to visit NU as he makes his way back from a stroke:
I was really hoping this was going to be a boring blowout. I have work in the morning. But it looks like it’s going to be a blow for blow war and I’ll be up past midnight til One Shining Moment taps my emotions.

Antoni Vlogianitis (
@antonivlog
) was advertised by
@CrownBBALL
as a shooter who continues to grow. But all fall he’s been 40% from 3FG, a playmaker (5 assists per game), a worker (almost 10,000 on the
@shootaway
so far), and such a positive attitude to be around. Pushing 6’4.
Help us welcome Omari Salvi, a post grad from Bullis School (MD)! Day or night, inside or outside, Omari is grinding to get better. Our new 6’5 stretch G/F has amassed more than 1000 game-like makes this spring.
#wingedbeavers
@avonoldfarms
Everyone keeps talking about Duncan Robinson playing D3 but he also went to MICHIGAN and he played in the NATIONAL TITLE GAME. Played in the NBA Finals too. And he’s 6’7! I get the D3 narrative but not really a little engine that could. He’s a tenured, legit, professional, dude.
Please, all parents, this is worth a listen. I’m a coach but I’m also a father. It’s great advice from one of the most successful coaches in recent history.
This is such a strong, competitive league. These rankings are so telling that anyone can beat anyone and there are ZERO nights off. So much talent and high quality parity.
Ben averages about 1700 shots on
@shootaway
per week in the preseason, on top of any conditioning work and pickup games. I know, many colleges are going to prioritize the portal, but I’ll bet most of those guys don’t work on their game more than Ben!
I am so proud of the guys putting in work for
@AOF_Basketball
this fall. Covid protocol has its limitations but this group wants to work, competes, listens, and improves every day. Most of all they love being in he gym. I’m a lucky coach.
This time of year, lots of players are on the move and lots of coaches are on the move. Amidst the shuffle, keep 6'7 F (9 double doubles; 4.0 GPA)
@JeffreyAkintolu
in mind:
Kids, take note. Never doubt yourself, stick to a plan, make friends with adversity, real toughness over fake toughness, trust coaches, respect teammates, and above all else when in doubt PUT MORE WORK IN. That’s what
@_jrlynch
did. Proud of him!
Here’s the entire final sequence. It’s legitimately borderline unbelievable that this game ended the way it did — with Stephen F. Austin providing one of the all time buzzer-beaters.
Twenty years from now, when I’m an older man, I hope I’ll remember the night of Jan. 16 2018, when little Matt and I ate apples for dinner and the only toy we played with was a dishrag. And we had a blast.
Mark your dad was an all time great. Once a year my brothers and I would see him at the Final Four as kids. He’d jot down our t-shirt sizes and a week later we got them in the mail. There was nothing for him to gain, he just made people feel special!
I know that it’s hard, and sounds morbid, but don’t think of it that way! Please try to never take ‘see/talk to you tomorrow’ for granted. Every day, every moment, choose joy, be kind, laugh, hug and kiss your loved ones, tell them! We miss you. Man, you’d love these little ones!
.
@Blake2_3Smith
of
@PTT_Hoops
&
@AOF_Basketball
made some big plays today.
The 6’ 3” guard moves his feet well on defense showing awareness and running around screens. Makes timely cuts to the basket and can finish through contact. Can get downhill on drives quick.
I was a kid, the
@DukeMBB
vs.
@UNC_Basketball
game was hyped up for a month. The week leading up to it featured commercials and spots on TV. Some players stayed for a few years! It was fun being a hoops junkie. For any middle schoolers who just care about hoops, today’s your day.
This kid has played so hard every single day. He can (and will) guard 5'8 or 6'8 and doesn't think twice about it. He's humble and hardworking, and takes no plays off.
