A few thoughts from me for @SluggerOToole on the potentially very difficult election for Unionism. With Unionism struggling in areas such as North Down, Lagan Valley, and East Belfast, it's clear that something is fundamentally broken within Unionism.

UVF man Brian Robinson murdered Paddy McKenna, an innocent Catholic. Tomorrow a large scale parade will be held commemorating Robinson whilst traumatising Paddy's family. It's vile that this annual event goes ahead and if we can't condemn it, then we can't condemn IRA events.

If the IRA murdered a Protestant and held an annual parade celebrating the murderer, most people would rightly be outraged. The same standards should be applied to the annual Brian Robinson parades, an individual who murdered an innocent Catholic. This event has no place in NI.

Ian Paisley's expenses - £245k ( 1st Feb 20 to 31st Jan 21) would be outrageous during normal times, however, during a pandemic it's scandalous & must trigger an independent audit. This is exactly the type of thing the DUP needs to address if it wants to remain a serious player!

The TUV's Anne Smyth attacked Linda Ervine for promoting the Irish language in East Belfast, suggesting Unionists weren't interested. It's therefore ironic that the the DUP's Ruth Brooks who speaks Irish topped the poll with *1690* votes whilst Anne Smyth finished second last.

I'm not a GAA fan, however, it does seem like a huge outlier for local TV media at the BBC and UTV to not be broadcasting the final live, particularly with Tyrone playing. The same criticism extends to the lack of live TV coverage for NI matches. Room for improvement.

David Trimble's huge role in bringing peace to NI is often understated. His task was complex in getting fragmented Unionism on-board with no support outside his party and very little within it. Unionism has generally airbrushed him from memory but he deserves better recognition.

The TUV's scorched earth Unionism has been a disaster, they deride other Unionists and everyone else, spout whatever nonsense it wants, knowing it will never be in power and the TUV knows that the below speech will galvanise SF, yet they do it. Insanity!!

The TUV could not buy the level of publicity they are given across local media platforms. For a party that has been soundly rejected at the polls since its existence, the soft power that local media affords it is both incredible and unjustified.

A significant amount of coverage given to the Moygashel protest rally, some context needed. Approximately 70 people attended, several bussed in, a few there out of curiosity and I even spotted a number who back the deal. The same circular arguments made and no solutions offered.

@JamieBrysonCPNI As an Orangeman living on the border, the Republic were invaluable during WWII. 70k troops came from ROI, fire fighters helped during the Belfast blitz and generally a lot of support came from ROI. This is not a time for revisionism.

Perhaps we could also use today to purge this type of pound shop punditry? It's harmful to Unionism, overamplified, usually inaccurate and is more about self importance than concern for the Union. It's not constructive, it's not parody, it's ridiculous.

Those in the DUP feeling it's time Wilson and Poots moved into leadership positions are showing why the DUP is in terminal decline. This would be a utopia for Nationalists & nightmare for Unionists. The DUP have swathes of changes to make, retiring these two is one such change.

Today puts under the spotlight something everyone knows, NI Unionism is friendless, we are our own worst enemy on this front, rarely attempting to build meaningful relationships with anyone other than the Tories who endlessly prove to be dreadful. Unionism needs to build unions!

@LucyABaxter I thought that the point of integrated education was to gain exposure to different cultures. Would you prefer if children were segregated on British and Irish topics or just exclude both? You've also misappropriated the word "Irish", many of us are Irish and British.

With the £600 support payment making its way to NI, there was a certain inevitability that local energy and oil suppliers (amongst others) would find a reason to increase their prices. The greed of some of these companies knows no bounds!

The problem for Unionism at the moment is that it hasn't adjusted to not being a majority. Unionism is turning too many Unionists into 'persuadeables' & turning too many 'persuadeables' into wanting constitutional change. This is not a minor cut as some suggest but a haemorrhage.

I think it's time to end the practice of lighting up City Hall for various events. It's developed into a cultural war and we're one step away from it being lit up to celebrate the "other side" not getting it lit up. To be filed under "this is why we can't have nice things".

Unionism is in a pitiful mess. Rudderless, declining, fractured & without anything resembling a joined-up, realistic approach on the Protocol or on anything else. Unionism is splintering & those who are strategically impotent are given too much coverage. Abysmal & unsustainable.

If you spend your existence denouncing every Unionist from Peter Robinson to Doug Beattie and anyone in between who has so much as watched RTE's "The Late, Late Toy Show" as being part of 'pan-Nationalism', then you're not suited to preach about the need for Unionist unity.

Am I the only Unionist who wasn't bothered about the BBC graphic error in relation to the NI flag? There are bigger fish to fry and I don't mean those at the proposed Belfast aquarium.

@RonMcDowellTUV Shouldn't we as Unionists be encouraging this if we want our own culture respected and if we want the Union to work? As an Orangeman, you will know many in the organisation speak Irish and many Unionists from history have been proud of their Irishness. We can't live in the past.

As things stand, if an Assembly election was held today the TUV would win one seat. Quite why the DUP feels it needs to lurch more towards the TUV and its limited voter base is beyond me and illustrates the DUP's complete incompetence.

Loyalism has lost direction and needs a David Ervine type leader. These weekly protests are embarrassing but the actions today will win Loyalism few friends.
