Once he knew I was a poet, my late dad only gave me collections by women. Gluck's WILD IRIS was one of those cherished gifts. Rest in peace, thank you, both. "When you go, you go absolutely, / deducting visible life from all things // but not all life, lest we turn from you."
"Set in the gulf south, these poems chronicle the experience of a speaker who becomes a mother soon after losing her father. Climate change and pandemic anxiety pervade these poems. ... The page holds magic." Talking w/ Stacey about my poetry book!♥️

I won't be warned. I won't fall in fucking line. And I won't leave. This is my home. I have every right to live here and NOT like the laws. And protest. And vote. And write. And be a good old pain in the ass.
Well, this is an extremely sad day for Louisiana. It’s not hyperbolic to say you remain in Louisiana at your own peril. But here, you can’t say he didn’t warn you. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

Funny, he would likely be doing better if he just kept his little "white" name, given history, racism, literature. What an overthinking, self-defeating idiot. The world on a silver platter and you can't figure out how to just take a bite.

I agree with Rose Solari - put it on ice. When all else fails, I put the hard squeeze on a poem by squeezing it into the sonnet box. Pronoun shift can pull it closer or distance. Same w/ tense. If that fails, rewrite backwards.
Built the curriculum for an MFA class Recent American Long Poems while working on the 50-page poem in my forthcoming book, FOR TODAY. Teaching and writing cross-pollination! Taught Rachel Zucker's "An Anatomy of the Long Poem" the first week:

Charles Wright on the poet's "willingness to put on the hair shirt and go into the desert and sit still, and listen hard, and write it down, and tell no one."
Glad to be home, home, home, New Orleans. With a poem, "Ghazal for the Nomad," in NEW AMERICAN WRITING 39. Such good company. Many thanks to editor Paul Hoover. I am remembering poet Marthe Reed.
"Yet shyness in Bishop’s poetry also frequently marks the empathic bond forged between self and other; to be shy in Bishop’s poetry is to accept the ostracon of self-knowledge and to relate to others on the basis of shared liability."
Fallen for New Orleanian Christine Kwon's _A Ribbon the Most Perfect Blue_. "Noh Mask" is one of my favorites for ease of structure and development -- the surface quietly controlled through opening anaphora and parataxis. I have no idea where we're heading - that last line!
