I’m 2019 I wrote our mla
@demetriosnAB
about cutting the Alberta Rapattack Wildland Program. This was a Peter Lougheed program to protect our forests and the communities in them. I explained to him I was part of this program 1994-2003. 1/
I was fooled into believing
@demetriosnAB
was different and listened to his constituents. He is not.
If anyone has any questions I will be totally transparent and show you everything I have. Here are a couple of the letters I gained. /end
We are paying firefighters from Ontario, Quebec, Oregon in excess of a $1000 a day for each firefighter we bring into this province.
My last night working, I went on 5 overdose calls.
Experts matter, frontline workers matter.
We have solutions. 7/
We will now be paying hundreds of millions of dollars to fight these fires. Now their is an open cheque book to do whatever it takes
We need prevention and resources in place prior to these types of diasasters. Lougheed had vision that’s why he created these types of programs.8/
When they cut the Rapattack program they cut the most experienced and dedicated Wildland firefighters we had in the province. They were also the pump, chainsaw etc instructors for all new firefighters in the spring. 3/
@ABDanielleSmith
That red tape gutted our world class Wildland fire service. Cut experienced crews cost us 1 billion in wildfire firefighting costs. Great job!
I thought as an expert in being a first responder in the Wildland area and now in an urban setting and since we worked together he would value what I was saying. He did not value my expert opinion or my efforts (4 months of advocacy).
At present the province is on fire. 6/
I explained the value in this program in stopping Wildland fires while they were small before they became “campaign fires”. Although he responded he wasn’t truly interested in my opinion. I new Dem before he became a politician. We worked on a community project. 2/
When we were doing 10 overdoses a day downtown Calgary although he responded he really wasn’t interested in what I was saying about what I’ve learned about addiction and homelessness. 5/
So when they disbanded this program they cut educators, as well.
Demetrois prior to the last election called me asked to join the UCP to vote within the UCP candidacy. He won. I am now in leadership in an emergency role in big red trucks in Calgary. 4/
@ShayeGanam
Shutdowns should happen in the fall and spring for a common good like electricity. Of course if a shutdown happens in January and February when use is high you have start to question is this planned to drive prices up?
@m_bohaichuk
All ICE vehicles need to be plugged in or they won’t start. Nothing is perfect. Electric vehicles will get better and provide true competition to ICE vehicles. Making every manufacturer no matter ICE, hybrid or electric truly be competitive
@ABDanielleSmith
Have you Danielle talked to homeless people? As a first responder downtown Calgary. I expressed concerns to my Calgary Bow mla years ago and he knows me personally. No response. If you are not listening to people like me, it makes me wonder who are you listening to
@AdrianaLaGrange
As a first responder that has worked in downtown Calgary I warned my Calgary Bow mla numerous times about tbe overdose crisis years ago. No response. Also warned him about Wildland fire cuts and ramifications of this. He responded with platitudes. Your government doesn’t listen!
@ABDanielleSmith
As a first responder in Calgary just had to escort someone in medical distress because no ambulances available. Maybe ambulances wasn’t a criteria
@Martyupnorth_2
Marty just got back from
A vacation in socialist cuba so inflation doesn’t bother him especially with home like this. How many of you following Marty have a place like this
@JasonCoppingAB
I wonder where we are going to get these new medics from when we can’t staff the ambulances on the books now. I wonder if you treated the medics we have now with respect they wouldn’t be burned out?
@ABDanielleSmith
Lake Louise is a product of the federal government. Maybe if you dropped coal mining and protected the southeast slopes my grandchildren could enjoy wilderness in the slopes
#ABwildfire
. $700 a day per firefighter brought in plus expenses. We all know we shouldn’t have cut our Rapattack Wildland Firefighter Program. Tell the candidates!!
@rebeccakschulz
Negotiation?!?. The highwood river is empty. Please more fracking with fresh water, please more coal mines to wash coal so Chinese steel can outcompete Canadian steel makers. Please more irrigation for marginal lands that are not suitable for farming. Please bring in more people!
@DavidJPba
I think people like you are trying to create wedge issues between rural and urban. In the end it’s the political
Class such as yourself trying to control all of us. Oil and gas and coal
Are literally stealing fresh water because they have no one is government saying no
@Martyupnorth_2
And in Alberta, Alberta government issues
Suppressing coal impacts on rivers and lakes
Alberta fire chiefs concerned no plan for Wildland fires
Still no solution to tailings ponds
Highest overdose ever
100s of billion of dollars in o&g liabilities for reclamation
@ABDanielleSmith
Is this a forest near swan hills. This is not nature anymore. This is the reality all over Alberta. Cut blocks, wellsites, roads, pipelines. Is this what you call sustainability? Please explain
@rebeccakschulz
Are you for real. You are the environment minister not the energy minister. Maybe merge the 2 departments and we can at least save some money.
@ABDanielleSmith
So are you saying Albertans that don’t believe in tbe UCP don’t care about Alberta. As a Lougheed conservative I am disgusted with what your government has done to Lougheed principles

We will need a serious review of the consequences of cutting The RAPATTACK firefighter program. Great case study for some grad student out there. Cost benefit study. Are highly trained , fit, motivated, firefighters worth the money?
@Martyupnorth_2
@DuaneBratt
I know Marty is a big fan of women. He is always talking about them. If you have a story about Marty while working with him or socializing please let us know. We know how he treats women online. How about in person or in a position of authority while in O and G industry.
@BrianJeanAB
Also cut the wildfire firefighting budget by 30% only to cost us 1 billion last year to fight the fires. Budget of 100 million great job!!
@BrianJeanAB
@cfibAB
@DaleNally_AB
@ABDanielleSmith
Is it? Cutting Alberta’s experienced Wildland firefighter crews was part of your red tape reduction. Modernization I was told by my Calgary Bow Mla. Let’s cut these crews and helicopters for 1 million. We spent 1 billion $ in 2023 fighting the fires. Great job!!
@LukaszukAB
@Alberta_UCP
Maybe Todd, you are the Parks Minister. Let’s create more of these parks in the east slopes and forget about coal mining. The solution to overcrowded parks is more parks!
@trmeech
@LukaszukAB
As a former member of one of these units we begged the UCP to listen to us and the value that we brought to the province. They refused to listen! Like every thing else they do
@BrockWHarrison
Kinda like your boss saying he follows science and follows the trust of albertas scientist but won’t follow their advice on coal mines. That’s hipocracy
@ABDanielleSmith
Why don’t you have a visit to the drop in centre in Calgary. Talking to frontline people so we can get those people help. Isn’t that’s what we pay you for?
@WeAreCanProud
And he got rid the avro arrow program in which our brightest engineers left to the US. It funny he decimated our science technology sector by doing this and now you quote him.
@jkenney
@FortuneMineral
I wondering when the fact finding tour will start on who is funding the Coutes border blockade? Is it the UCP party, USA cattle ranchers, USA republicans?FOX news?
