I will still probably continue to use Twitter but I have signed up for a Mastodon account as a backup. It's the same username
@CCTakato
Please everyone on Twitter with a Mastodon follow me as well!
Iβm glad itβs finally coming but Sailor Moon Crystal should not have taken ten years to finish with only 39 episodes and four movies while the 90s anime finished in only five years with 200 episodes and three movies.
i refuse to watch the viz dub of sailor moon. sailor moon in engiish should be about a 14 year old girl named Serena with the voice of a 45 year old woman. and her cat is marry poppins.
Netflix is streaming
#SailorMoonCrystal
but I'm pretty sure it's the TV broadcast version and not the BD version with the corrected animation even though Netflix has the English dub too. Left is the Netflix stream and right is Hulu with the BD masters.
BREAKING: Beryl has strengthened into a hurricane in the Atlantic and is forecast to become a major storm as it nears the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center says.
Angelic Layer is a show I feel like has been overshadowed by Cardcaptor Sakura though it had a a decent fanbase when it first came out. But I definitely recommend it as a solid kids anime & if you enjoy CLAMP's other works & it's also interesting as one of Bones' first titles.
I enjoyed Sailor Moon Cosmos and getting to see a faithful adaptation of the Stars arc after all these years and seeing some of the manga only characters like Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon. I was also glad the Inners finally got their Eternal power ups.
Iβm going to need magical girl/AniTwitter to understand that βfor adultsβ doesnβt mean itβs going to be dark and edgy or the characters will swear a lot. It just means the characters are now adults and it will probably focus on issues relevant to adults like office culture etc.
Did anyone else think this Little Mermaid Live thing was going to be a full musical and not just random musical numbers from the movie or was that just me?
Sailor Moon fans be complaining about Toei not doing anything for PGSM for years and then around and attack Keiko Kitagawa when she comes back to the series to the point she felt she had to apologize and this is why this fandom doesnβt deserve good things.
All these anime sequels about the kids of the original characters makes me wish we could get a Sailor Moon sequel about Chibiusa and the Sailor Quartet.
Today is the last day the Funimation app exists and the last day of the Funimation branding. I think about how most of my anime DVD and BD collection is mainly from companies that no longer exist like Bandai, Pioneer, Manga, ADV and now Funimation. Truly an end of an era.
this thread reminded me that the Japanese version briefly acknowledges that 9/11 happened between New York visits in Beyblade (the second season takes place in 2002)
such a randomly real moment, lmao
Dear Sailor Moon fans please understand movie licenses are handled differently than a TV show and theyβre not going to put Cosmos out on Netflix the same day itβs playing in Japanese theaters and most anime movies thereβs a gap till the global release and it takes time to dub.
Everyone in comments is focusing on shipping wars but ignoring this sign in the background in a childrenβs cartoon says βneikd star, fucking nightβ in English
Someone at 4Kids thought it was a good idea to use a song about how this woman isn't ready to fuck her boyfriend yet was a good fit for the Pokemon movie
I think itβs very fitting for Chibiusa to get a transformation like her momβs first one when she officially becomes a Sailor Guardian after completing her training.
When 90s Sailor Mars is more powerful than Crystal Mars because they had to keep Jadeite alive for a shoehorned in romance sub plot that didn't go anywhere.
Itβs funny to read Codename Sailor V and I feel like in a lot of ways itβs much more closer in tone and format to the 90s anime than it is to the Sailor Moon manga. Like itβs much more episodic and itβs comedy hijinks is very similar to the 90s animeβs brand of humor.
Iβm honestly fine with the show just going away for awhile. I love Sailor Moon and the friends Iβve made through it but the fandom has also gotten annoyingly cynical the last several years and some of yβall need to watch and read another anime/manga/anything else at this point.
Dear Sailor Moon fans, please understand most anime are made with a set budget in mind and animation quality has nothing to do with budget and Dragon Ball and Precure are not "stealing' budget from Sailor Moon.
With another live action anime remake on the horizon, this is your annual reminder to watch the best live actin remake, the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon toku show.
@jazz_bunnies
I appreciate CLAMP shows Syaoran having a more of a crisis about liking Sakura than Yukito which seems like the opposite of the way media usually shows it.
Other than 90s anime Usagi being more willing to forgive her enemies while manga Usagi is more ruthless I don't think they're that drastically different from each other? It's not like 90s Rei vs manga Rei or something.
The Viz English dub cast has done an amazing job as the Sailor Guardians for the last ten years and Iβll miss hearing them in these roles and I thank them and the dubbing staff for all their hard work and talent in making a quality dub that makes the show more accessible for fans
@PLDHnet
Putting out the Let's Go games a year before the next gen clearly hurt their workload ability for a remake nobody really asked for. They should have waited till after the new gen to start doing the remake games.
@mendinso
So many American fans think shonen and shojo are genres when they're just target demographics and when fans get burned out on a specific genre of shonen they can't reconcile it when they find a shonen they actually like
It's funny to see weebs using moe anime from the 2000s as their best example of diverse character designs when I'm old enough to remember when anime fans used to complain about shows like Lucky Star and Clannad being an insult to anime for mainstreaming moe aesthetics.
Hot take: Children's entertainment cannot both appeal to adult sensibilities, while remaining appropriate and entertaining to children. Adults need to seek out adult entertainment instead of demanding that children's entertainment be tailored to them.
US anime fans are losing it over the Demon Slayer movie being rated R in the US and acting like this is the most edge lord anime ever even though it's a kid's manga in Japan and they have Happy Meal toys alongside Precure in McDonald's Japan.
There's this weird paranoia that Urusei Yatsura will face a lot of backlash from modern anime fandom over some of it's dated aspects that's perfectly fair to be critical of. But also one of the most popular anime with US anime fandom in 2021 was Mushoku Tensei. It'll be fine.
If you're wanting a new Digimon anime to watch after Ghost Game ends and you haven't seen it yet, please watch Appmon because you won't regret it. It's also available to watch on Crunchyroll.
It looks like Sailor Moon Crystal is expiring on Hulu in 13 days. I donβt think this will have any effect on Vizβs license before anyone starts to panic. A lot of anime shows have been expiring on Hulu lately. Home video is still in print and the sub is still on Crunchyroll.
@Divinenega
@Crunchyroll
I also find it telling Crunchyroll didnβt include this in their initial big announcement about the merge earlier this month and were hoping to sneak this by everyone.
I never want to hear anime fans bitch about modern dubs being terrible or "censoring" the original because they used the word sus in a line once or that one line in Miss Kobayashi from seven years after the way fans are acting about a show airing a faithful and uncut dub.
It seems like there's a lot of fan confusion about why Luna suddenly has blue eyes in Sailor Moon Eternal when it was red in the 90s and previous seasons of Crystal and assumptions that Luna's eyes should be red. But it's not entirely clear from the manga that's the case.
Between this and the Netflix Evangelion dub (which I actually liked in spite of the issues), Khara is making the case that having the original creators micromanaging the localization process is not always the best choice.
After all these years, FUNimation's theatrical dub of Evangelion 3.0 is fully available thanks to
@pkmncrystalVEVO
getting and sharing it.
I've compiled a list of the changes between it an FUNi's home video dub here:
Here's a small sample:
I know Toonami has talked about wanting to get Sailor Moon for years ever since the revival first started but I didnβt think it would actually happen because of streaming complications so this is exciting to see it come back like this and airing on weekdays too.
I always get emotional when Usagi repeats the line Mamoru told her when he was about to die about how she wants to find a cool boyfriend who will protect her no matter what. If they never made any more after this and this was the ending it would have been perfect way to end it.
Pretear and Kaleido Star are now streaming on Crunchyroll! Sailor Moon fans should definitely as theyβre some of my favorite magical girl titles and both directed by Junichi Sato who also did the first season of the 90s Sailor Moon and the Doom Tree arc and also Princess Tutu.
For one thing she never said this and I don't even know what this means. Like most things you have in your life are from the support and help of others and not solely from yourself. And like this is entirely antithetical to Sailor Moon's message about friendship and teamwork.
For comparison the 90s anime ran for five years but has 200 episodes and three movies while Sailor Moon Crystal has 39 episodes and four movies and took nine years to finish.
The new Precure shows will probably be similar in tone to like the Looking for Magical Doremi movie where like it focuses on an adult cast but it still has a light tone to it but this will probably be focused on the actual Precure cast.
@thebloomix
Sailor Moon solved this problem by having different teams like the Outers and the Starlights which gave them more flexibility to keep introducing new characters over the course of the franchise instead of just keeping strictly to the original core members
Naoko made like one vague off the cuff comment about a new Guardian and I already see people complaining theyβre going to ruin a non-existent Sailor Moon sequel when everything is pure speculation at this point. Yaβll need to go watch some other anime thatβs not Sailor Moon.
@JennyENicholson
Even when I was still an active fan, I feel like romance was never one of JK Rowlingβs strong points to her writing and I was more into the fantasy lore stuff.
Thinking today on the 20th anniversary of PGSM about how Sailor Moon fans got super mad and started harassing Keiko Kitagawa for coming back to the franchise to voice Sailor Cosmos in Sailor Moon Cosmos.
It's too bad we never see Queen Serenity again after this. I just don't get why she stopped being important to the anime especially when she has a big role in the Dream arc in the manga.
