I think Sound Euphonium might have some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in anime. Kumiko especially, played by Kurosawa Tomoyo, has such a nuanced performance that even the simplest lines can bring me to tears. The way she says "hai" after Asuka says see you later...man.

1. Tatami Galaxy Easily the closest you'll get in terms of aesthetics and subject matter. TG is more lighthearted and fast-paced, but both are atypical coming-of-age stories with minimalist art direction and a vaguely episodic structure that builds into an overarching story.

Despite her popularity, Nozomi doesn't feel like she belongs. Even when she crouches to their level, she is still out of sync. When she faces the camera, no one else is shown clearly. We see them when she faces away though, creating this dissonance that highlights her loneliness.

It really is amazing how well Hanekawa's character was set up in Bakemonogatari. Every brief appearance she has in each arc tells us so much about her character, but it's weaved in so naturally that you don't notice just how much there is there is until later on in the series.

If this person is serious, then it's a foolish way to go about things. I'd take the opinion of someone with no animation experience but a deep knowledge of its concepts and the industry over someone fueled by hubris, who started their craft just to dunk on others.

Yamada Naoko: I was fixated on the intensity of the atmosphere created by Mizore and Nozomi. It felt as if they were encased in a delicate glass bubble that you could only touch extremely gently so as not to break it. I approached the world of the film with that kind of mindset.
