Ep. 1 Friday 26th.
A quick hello here -
Someone called asking if they could they drop off a collection... this is unlike any collection I've ever seen before.
Hundred of unplayed mint singles still in the shop bags they purchased them in as well as 12" singles and LPs STILL SEALED 🤯
I've said it before...
This album is absolutely fantastic, and I'm angry that I ignored it for as long as I did. I wish I were old enough to see them in the early 80s, for I bet they were fantastic.
Anyone reading see them?
Oh, Shane...
Long may you rest in the pantheon of poets who sang the songs of the most broken in our world.
You gave a voice to many in Ireland Whilst you will be missed, your songs will be sung for centuries to come.
A man who legends themselves looked up too.
Six years since i last drank alcohol.
2,191 days... not that I'm counting.
I was very unwell. Whilst I appreciate the clarity that comes with sobriety, life continues to be a challenge on occasion. But I'm proud.
I'm on a lovely autumnal walk in Epping Forest 🌞
I've bought possibly the best collection I've ever seen.
Must be around 2,000 LPs and sevens... I've gone through once and pulled out things I recognise.
Don't message me yet as i need to figure out what I'm keeping.
Many more to follow 🌞
Graduation day 🌞
Today marked the end of my four year training to become a psychoanalytical psychotherapist. Without a doubt, it was the most challenging thing I've ever done.
I love being a therapist, as well as a record seller, and feel so lucky I do both.
I recently bought a collection from someone who worked within the industry and discovered this expenses note within this copy Bert Jansch's Santa Barbra Honeymoon.
*a-hem*
Think I'll hold onto this one 🌨
An absolutely mind melting collection of grunge, Britpop, and other records released in the 90s and early naughts.
If anyone needs me... I'll be in heaven 🌞
@PunksWPurpose
My money is on BrewDog brewing a non-alcoholic beer and calling it 'Ex-Employees Tears' and having it on sale within the week.
I wouldn't put anything past them. A truly a deplorable "wolf in sheep's clothing" company.
"This album belonged to my brother Robert, who passed away on the 5th January 1983"
A reminder that we're just temporary custodians for these spinning sound vessels...
I know it's easy to criticise HMV, but I've popped in as in town for "other job" appointments and may require additional therapy myself.
£59.99 for Parklife
£21.99 for Zenyatta Mondatta (down from £37.99 🤯)
I also sell "not inexpensive" records, but this is quite something.
Be still my beating heart 😍
I've wanted to own an original Mellon Collie for as long as I've been buying records. And finally, I have one.
Also, I picked up a couple of boxes of delights I will be selling.
It's Sunday morning, and I'm driving daan saaf to catch up with an old industry colleague and relieve him of his record collection.
I've already seen some photos and as you can see in my face... I'm VERY excited.
Fuck The Sun
Fuck The Daily Mail
Fuck The Tories
Fuck GB News
Fuck Murdoch
And fuck those who are the enemy of creating a fairer society and attack those who have an understanding of their impact on the world and those around them.
Did I miss anyone?
If so, Fuck them also 🌞
I'll never tire of this record.
A band I used to manage made an album with its producer Andy Wallace. Over lunch, one day, he opened up about Jeff sharing stories and his grief on hearing the news of his passing.
The same day, I met Leonard Nimoy.
That was a good day.
Look... don't get me wrong. Side 1 is great. In fact, it's very great, but its side 2 is where Bowie went a whole new level of... of... immensity.
I will never tire of listening to this record 🌞
I'm not greedy.
I'm perfectly content with the simpler things in life.
Like a test pressing of the 12" single of one of the finest pop songs to have ever been written by a band from Liverpool ever.
Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱
Back with the bollocks!
This has loads of light marks and plays with constant crackle. And thus sounds absolutely fucking glorious - I don't trust a copy of Never Mind in any other condition.
To adopt comment, "No Future"
I'm announcing my candidacy to lead the Conservative Party.
My policies:
1. Disband The Conservative Party.
2. Free records.
Together we can build a prosperous future not just for those who benefitted from opportunities unavaliable to all... and free records.
Vote Joel ✔️
The leading horse is white
The second horse is red
The third one is a black
The last one is a green
Every time this song blows my mind.
Is Demis Roussos the most important Greek musican of the 20th century... I'm struggling to think of another that's had as much impact?
Brighter Day Record Shop began selling records two years ago today 🌞
I wanted to share some of my thoughts about the last two years; as well as some of my plans for 2023.
I've just bought the record collection of Alan A Freeman, a founder of PYE Records.
It includes many unreleased acetates, including Can't See For Looking, a track written by 60s beat group The Ugly's, eventually recoded and released by the Bobcats.
What delights await... 🌞
What a year!
Thank you for following Brighter Day and my journey to be a Record Shop with a Difference.
Much planned for next year, including my podcast, flick-throughs, and likely many more record collections.
May your 2023 be kind.
Much love from us both, Joel & Yuri 🌞
I have picked up a collection of significant importance.
These records belonged to music journalists and PR guru Roger St Pierre. Roger worked with many of the greats in soul, R&B and Blues.
Four and a half years since I stopped drinking. Of all the benefits, which are plentiful, losing almost half of my body weight is the winner 🏅
Not easy.
But rarely are the good things in life.
Still have a dodgy tash!
Be kind to yourself 🌞
Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱 26/60
What an album. One of his best. One of THE best. This copy has a clicky scratch on side 2, but it still has a mountainous amount of love to give. Adopt it and give it a home.
To adopt comment, "just for one day"
Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱 60/60 🥳
Where to end this journey? Perhaps where it began for so many, including me. This copy of Beatles Red is mostly great. Sleeve has knocks.
To adopt comment, "1234"
Thank you for joining me for 60 records in 60(ish) days 🌞
Likely multiple people singed off on Rough Trade FlipVinyl. Did they think no one would notice or worse, that their pricing was fair?
I never criticise other shops. We all plough our field to make a living. But their contempt for record lovers is shocking.
Do they not know us?
Happy New Year.
If you've bought a record, adopted an LP, or simply follow me here... I wish you nothing but the very best for 2024.
Together, we can make this place (twitter), and that place (the real world) better.
Be kind to yourself and others.
And enjoy the music 🌞
Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱
The debut album from Dexy's Midnight Rumners is fantastic. This copy has a few marks, so I'm happy to rehome it via the adoption. Was there a cooler band on the planet when they formed?
To enter comment, "burn it down!"
Blessed Vinyl Gods ...
Please care for the postal works and their tireless efforts to bring spinning beauties to all those in vinyl need.
May the rain go away
The dogs friendly
and your bags *cough* light
Thanks be to the vinyl Gods 🙌🌞🙌
PRAISE THE VINYL GODS 🙌
After years of buying collections, I've finally aquired THAT Top of the Pops album which includes their cover of Kraftwerk's Autobahn.
Absolutely worth the wait... it is fucking immense!
🌞🌞
Today is significant.
I've been working on something for a few months now, and today could change Brighter Day significantly for the better.
When there's an update, you'll be the first to know (after my dad, of course).
May the vinyl gods be with me 🌞
Vashti Bunyan
Just Another Diamond Day
I never thought I'd ever see one... let alone be the owner of an original 1970 Phillips pressing.
I don't think I've ever been this happy 🙃🌞🙃
I think I may retire.
That'll do for tonight. I need to unpack from my holiday!
Brighter Day is 3 years old!
Here's to anther year (and more) of rehoming beautiful spinning discs.
Thank you if you've bought a record from me. I aimed to be a Record Shop with a difference, and I hope I achieved it 🌞
I never did move into that shop (that god - it was tiny!)
Hi, I’m Joel De’ath. You may remember me from such posts as ‘Thursday flick-through’, ‘Mystery Vinyl Packs’, ‘Middles aged man dancing in a desperate attempt to sell vinyl records’ as well as being a J in
@JJJvinyl
.
Well, I’m opening a new record shop….
It's an early start today as I'm off to Norfolk to see (and hopefully buy!) a collection of records.
I'm not yet fully gone through yesterday's arrival (👋 new followers), but I'm finding some gems.
If anyone wants a WH Smiths paper record bag, drop me a WhatsApp 🌞
Many followers over the last 24 hours - hi, how are you? I'm Joel, I run a shop with a difference 🌞
When I reached 3,000 followers I put 30 well loved records up for adoption over 30 days.
As I approach 4,000 followers I'm thinking of repeating this... why the hell not!?
Praise the vinyl gods🙌🌞🙌
I do not know why they have blessed me so on this day.
Beatles - Revolver
With the hallowed side two XEX 606-1 matrix number. The withdrawn mix of Tomorrow Never Knows. I've not yet had one grace my collection... until now.
Blubbing a little here.
It's almost the end of the year - time to share your best vinyl finds.
I'll start.
I had only bought a reissue weeks before when I acquired a record collection, which included this Vashti Bunyan 1st press.
Not a cheap day, but absolutely worth it.
Pictures & stories welcome 🌞
OFF WE GO!
I'm heading to Manchester and then Birmingham to pick up two killer collections today.
I wouldn't usually travel so far for records, unless they're good... and these are very, very good.
Keep your eyes peeled for some photos later... 🌞
I already have a top copy of this stone cold classic, but I couldn't let the opportunity go to get an even better copy and.... gamble paid off.
This is motherfucking immaculate.
What a strange yet glorious disease record collecting is 🌞
Oh my...
Oh my Oh my....
I have a collection of quite some significance. Soul, R&B, Jazz, Blues, Rock n Roll.
I'm going to go on about this one for a while as their is an amazing story behind this collection.
But now I need to get them home safely. Absolutely buzzing 🙃
For my 16th birthday, my brother got me tickets for the Foo's at Brixton Academy.
A band I managed toured with them across the US many years later and got to spend some quality (drinking) time with Dave and the gang.
I can confirm what you've heard...
Diamond geezer 🌞
I recently picked up an absolutely killer seven inch collection full of beat, psych, and punk monsters.
I've not yet had a chance to go through all of them, and tonight, I go through this box.
I'll share highlights and likely give away some stuff.
Stick around 🌞
I'm off to see not one...
Not two...
No, not three...
Not even four......
But fuck me FIVE collections today in London. Let's fill these boxes with sounds from around the world.
I'll be taking photos as I go along and posting below... join me 🌞
"There's a man goin' 'round takin' names
And he decides who to free and who to blame
Everybody won't be treated all the same"
Immeasurable brilliance...
What an album.
It's sad, but I'm going to celebrate the music of a very troubled man whilst finishing off flick-through orders.
One moustache to rule them all.
I'm working my way through a rather phenomenal collection. All original pressings. Most records require a sonic clean and sleeves a bit of care, but some records are worth that extra effort.
These will end up in the Sunday Service once all sparkly. WhatsApp to join 🌞
I stand by this announcement.
To some this may be controversial - I think it the best for our country.
Time for them to start packing.
Bum. Hitting. Door. Way Out. etc
📞
"Hello... I've just been in the loft and taken down about 700 records. Mostly 60s and 70s. Many of them promo 7"s as my wife used to work for a music magazine.
Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱
It's about time I pop my OG Phillips Records Vashti Bunyan Just Another Diamond Day up for adoption. In NM condition, it is an exceptional copy.

Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱 13/60
This copy of I Just Can't Stop It by The Beat isn't so bad. A few marks and it requires a bit of a clean (as does the cover). Show it some tlc and you'll be very happy.
To adopt comment, "Mirror in the Bathroom"
Buying record collections is often linked to grief or a family coming to terms with a major rupture within their lives - today was a sobering reminder.
Hearing stories about a collection, and the owner, makes you realise the part you play in finding them new homes.
Humbling.
Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱 18/60
I promise... I'd rather be selling Pink Floyd LPs than putting them up for adoption, but this copy of Meddle has a few too many marks for me to both sell and sleep well at night. Give it a home.
To adopt comment, "Echoes"
For many years, I would listen to Steve Wrights Sunday Love Songs.
For a few of those years, I was sleeping on my friend's floors, desperately trying to maintain a living in the music industry.
I was lost, drinking heavily, and yet i was safe on Sunday mornings.
Thanks, Steve.
I've enjoyed creating Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency, giving away records with a little more love to give.
So much so that when I hit 3,000 followers I'm going to give away a record every day for 30 days here on Twitter.
I'll look forward to that 🌞
Welcome to Joel's Vinyl Adoption Agency 🐶🐱
Records may not be immortal, but songs they contain are. And whilst this copy of 1962-1966 has some marks and a rip in the sleeve, the songs still shine through.
To adopt comment, "from me to you"
