Amazing. Kirk Ferentz has won 152 games as a college head coach, coached in the NFL with arguably the best two coaches ever (Belichick and Saban) and he brings in a HS coach to clinic his staff. The humility exemplified here is admirable and a sign of healthy culture & leadership
Lincoln Riley breaking down the coaching points on Y Cross. They will start the read with a pure progression quick game concept to the front side & work back to the Y Cross, but how the defense covers the Y Cross will tell the QB where the ball goes next.
Interesting RPO design by OSU. Instead of
#2
running the slant, he runs a seam and
#1
runs the slant. It creates additional as both the safety and corner squeeze the seam.
Spags mixed things up nicely all day. On the GW INT, showing 1H man pre-snap. On snap brings 5-man pressure, drops FS to deep half, plays a 2 deep 4 under fire zone. Pressure gets home and forces and underthrown ball. Clark running vertical w/Kirk away from throw 😳
Repost: Crucial 3-1 2Q. Chiefs run 22P IZ Split. Pacheco bends 3 yards deep in the backfield which allows MIKE to track and be unblocked. If he presses the center’s ass (like IZ is designed) he meets the corner at the LOS and easily gets first. IIRC, this was his last snap at RB

Divide concept (1- Corner, 2- Post, 3- flat) by OSU. Great job by Haskins to influence the corner with pump fake and perfect trajectory/placement on throw.
Very excited to release Attacking the High Ground: An In-Depth Look at Over 250 Red Zone Scoring Plays from the 2023 NFL Season. This will be a very valuable resource for anyone wanting to study how the toughest yards in football are won. Available here:
Explanation: The Chiefs are running IZ with a Y-Insert. Pacheco, instead of running it like IZ and chasing the butt of the C, treats this like a gap scheme and follows the wrapper (BSG/H-Back). Probably just a subconscious habit (sees wrapper & follows) that will cease w/reps.
I hate to be that guy... but this appears to be a very BAD run by Pacheco in the redzone. Mahomes was visibly frustrated. Just watch the clip.

Random question: Why is the NFL allergic to the pistol? Seems like NFL teams that want to base their offense around the OZ are under center purists and those that want to base their offense around it in college run it from the pistol (App St./Oklahoma St./Louisville)
The

will likely scheme to win the Time of Possession this week to keep QB Joe Burrow on the sideline.
I expect heavy volumes of run and possession route concepts.

@AlexJKirby
Bill Walsh had a basic timing system - 1 sec for WR to release, .1 secs for every yard they covered. How ever long your OL could protect on avg. (2.5 secs say) gave you how deep you could likely throw.

The Super Bowl is 95% HS multi-sport athletes, NFL announcers use “RPO” and “Zone Read” inaccurately, the Pats & Eagles lifted heavy all week, Brady was picked in the 6th round. If you follow mostly coaches, go ahead and close Twitter. I just summed it up for you. You’re welcome
Is there an offensive line crisis in the NFL? I put it to

. "It's rough," he said in an incredible explanation on the decline of line play. "The college system..these guys barely have to block." INCREDIBLE This Is Football episode with Andrew out now.
There’s nothing more

wants to be reminded of on this beautiful Saturday than the days of 22 peeps Iso for a yard gain and leading Ole Miss 2-0 after one quarter. You’re welcome.
3rd and 1. From a sugar huddle the Chiefs get in a compressed bunch set and run a creative variation of Spider Y 2 Banana. Fake, flow, flood.

Quoting a leader of the Bolshevik Revolution in a football coaching book is peak cerebral. If this was the 50’s HUAC would be at your doorstep

Re-watched ISU vs Wazzu for some "research." This gem came up a few times. I think it is called Snake. The Curl comes from outside-in & looks like a Snake while the Post takes the top off. Mesh, is, well Mesh.

Love this kid. So much bad luck with injuries but he just kept showing up chopping wood. He’s gonna blow up soon and someone is going to get a great player and person.

💯 Defending the Bills is just like defending the Chiefs. You pick your poison, hope they make some mistakes and live with the results. There is no schematic blueprint without consistent 4 man pressure. The defense did enough to win.
Steve Spagnuolo did the lord's work yesterday. Not many impressive individual defensive performances, yet the unit held down Buffalo's O way more than anyone could have expected
