Today on #WorldBeardDay , BTWI wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate women and femmes with facial hair. In fact, all women (trans and cis alike) grow facial hair! Sometimes its visible, sometimes it isn't. Either way, facial hair ≠ man/masculine.

The last (but not least) trans advocate that BTWI would like to remember during #Pride is Sylvia Rivera, a gay liberation and transgender rights activist and community worker. Rivera co-founded STAR, and fought for SONA and the New York City Transgender Rights Bill.

Another trans advocate that we'd like to highlight during #Pride is @angelicaross , an actress and businesswoman. Angelica is also a self-taught computer programmer who founded TransTech Social Enterprises, a firm that helps employ transgender people in the tech industry.

BTWI wants to highlight for #LGBTHistoryMonth Tracey "Africa" Norman. Though she is still living today, she is important to mention because she is the first Black trans woman to achieve prominence in the fashion industry. She was inducted into the ballroom hall of fame in 2001.

During #LGBTHistoryMonth , we want to tell our followers about Carlett Brown Angianlee, an intersex trans veteran. She scheduled an operation related to her transition in Germany, and if she made it there, she was the first Black person to undergo gender confirmation surgery.

Ava Betty Brown, is a significant person to name this #LGBTHistoryMonth . She was an intersex trans woman arrested in 1957. Brown was an advocate for the rights of Black trans people. through filing official complaints against the police that harassed her.

Another figure we'd like to mention during #LGBTHistoryMonth is Charline Arcila. She was a lifelong LGBTQ activist , founded the Trans-Wellness Conference, and led the grassroots movement to ban gender markers from SEPTA passes in 2013. She passed away in 2015. #RestInPower

During #LGBTHistoryMonth , we want to mention Dee Farmer, the first transgender plaintiff to bring a case before the US Supreme Court. In 1989, Farmer sued federal prison officials for failing to protect her from a sexual assault in the men's prison where she was placed.

When we hear quotes from MLK, too often are we only reminded of his "I Have a Dream" speech. We shouldn't forget that his ideas about capitalism and poverty are even more relevant than ever. And this questioning of society must consider other types of oppression. #MLKDay

In continuing to honor LGBT activists during #Pride , we remember Stormé DeLarverie, a gender-nonconforming butch woman who is credited with beginning the Stonewall Uprising when she scuffled with police outside the bar. She was a prominent figure in the Gay Liberation movement.
