Well gang, the reaper came for my team today & my time at
@Microsoft
is officially up. It's been an amazing 15 years. Thanks for being part of it!
I'd love intros/recos to help find my thing. And if you need help with messaging or presentations, I am now available to consult.๐
Downsides of being laid off:
- Financial uncertainty
- Soul-crushing feelings of inadequacy
Upsides:
- Plenty of time to get jacked
(I'm gonna get so jacked)
She's a beauty, that number 9....
Josephine joined us this morning at 8:07am. 8lbs, 12oz.
Mom and baby are both doing awesome (and that's 6 girls and 3 boys for those of you keeping score at home)
@trillary_banks_
Met him a few times at Microsoft company events in LA when he was earlier in his career.
Super nice guy. Genuinely humble and smart. 100% knows where his birth certificate is.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has admitted that killing off Windows Phone and exiting mobile was a strategic mistake. Nadella is the third Microsoft CEO to admit to the company's huge mobile mistakes. Details here ๐
@JohnLeFevre
Some of us have a lot of kids, and it's the easiest, cheapest way to shop for a large family. Also, the quality is outstanding.
10/10, would recommend.
@connordpeters
Wait.
Someone paid for that home and interest on mortgages, performed maintenance, repairs, and upgrades, and you're suggesting they should now be taxed out of it because you've decided that it's not fair for them to enjoy it in their later years?
@sweatystartup
20-year Krav Maga and Jiu-jitsu instructor here.
The first rule of self defense is - any fight where you go home alive is a win.
This includes the fights you avoid.
@SimoneHCollins
Hmm.
You're conflating 2 very different things - weightlifting (for strength, health) & bodybuilding (for show, competition).
Weightlifting = known to be healthy. Bodybuilding with PEDs = proven unhealthy.
Just because they use the same equipment doesn't make them the same.
@BriannaWu
As a highly trained self-defense instructor with over 20 years of experience....
....anything on this list below "Medium Sized Dog" and you're basically gonna die 100% of the time.
Just processed end of year payroll for my new company (we formally launch in January, stay tuned!), and I'm proud to report that I earned more in the last 9 months than I did in the previous 12 at
@microsoft
.
Turns out there's life outside of Redmond. Who knew?
@m4rkchapman
My point is that having multiple apps with the same name - that do basically the same thing - is a terrible user experience. I spent 15 years at Microsoft, I know what the nuances are. Do most non-tech people? Absolutely not.
@bader_diedrich
1) Open Bed, Bath, and Beyond credit card
2) Max that thing the heck out
3) Wait for BBB to go bankrupt, rendering them unable to collect debts
4) Profit?
@RichardHanania
Just got home from my first trip to Japan. The train system is AMAZING. Quiet. Spotlessly clean. On time, ever time. Easy to navigate.
10/10, beats the ever living shit out of any subway system I've been on anywhere in the world.
@DaveEDanna
@Schwarzenegger
YES! I love that thing. Nice work giving intimidating equipment a try.
2 I-made-this-mistake-so-you-don't-have to things....
- Try not to lock your knees. That's how injuries happen.
- Get those legs to 90 degrees. High/wide feet for more glutes, low/narrow for quads.
Someone asked my husband what his โfavorite video game isโ
We both laughed, my husband isnโt a 12 year old. He has 7 children and a wife. Heโs never played them and neither will our sons. They will be too busy acquiring real life skills and trades.
I'm 45 years old.
I am married and have 9 kids.
I run my own business.
I was a senior leader at Microsoft for 15 years.
I have two black belts.
I work out 6x/week.
I also still play video games.
(Let people enjoy stuff!)
I saw a video earlier of a man saying you shouldnโt play games if youโre over 25 years of age because โyou need to grow upโ
My question is, when are people going to grow up enough to mind their own business and stop criticising how others live their livesโฆ?
What gives people
One year ago today my whole team and I got canned from Microsoft.
Made more money working for myself. Far less stress. More free time. Got in way better shape.
I loved my time at Microsoft, but....I probably should have left sooner. ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
I'm 45, married with 9 kids, spent 15 years as a senior leader at Microsoft, run my own consulting company, have 2 black belts, & can hammer out 12 reps w/110lb dumbells on bench press.
I also still own my childhood teddy bear & play video games.
(Let people enjoy stuff)
At a certain age (16 - 21), one must rid himself of all childish things. Throw away the toys, childrenโs books, video games, &., and embrace adulthood.
Get real hobbies, read real books, do something worth remembering.
Stop playing Warhammer, video games, &c., and grow up!
@cmclymer
I mean...now that we've solved racism, inequality, the crisis in Ukraine, inflation, rampant partisanship, domestic terrorism, gun violence, increasing crime, and energy and food insecurity, we DO need something to talk about.
17 years ago today, the first ever
@parallels
all hands.
Sat next to our new west coast sales rep in that meeting. She seemed nice, so we got married and now have 9 kids together. ๐
@Riley_Gaines_
I'm in.....but listening to elevator music.
Either there are technical difficulties or this is the greatest large-scale prank of Elon's life.
controversial design opinion:
Windows Phone was never a good UI. People at the time claimed that iOSโs heavy visual effects and skeuomorphism got in the way of actual usability, but this is FAR less usable.
Visually overwhelming, impossible to scan and downright unfriendly.
Instead of spending $3500 on an Apple Vision Pro, I built a home gym that includes:
- A cable station
- Dip bar
- Adjustable Ironmaster dumbbells that go up to 120lbs each.
- Treadmill
- Barbell + plates
- Resistance bands
Invest in your health.
Officially calling it. Tokyo is my new favorite city. Spotlessly clean, incredible healthy food, world class transit, hyper polite people who seem genuinely interested in helping out.
10/10, can't wait to come back.
